I now have a newer version of the launcher but login is still not working. When I click the Microsoft Login button a red box appears in the upper right corner with the message "Something went wrong in th elogin process!"
Thanks for the suggestion, but I already have the X-Box app installed. When I press Windows-G it pops up and shows Xbox Game Bar Version 5.721.12013.1.
Minecraft launcher is still crashing for me.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Minecrat launcher
2. Click on the Microsoft Login button.
3. The launcher crashes.

I found it will pull you into the water or a lower block if you are on a farmland or path block. It doesn't pull you into the water if you are on a full block like grass or dirt.
I am now able to login with the new Minecraft launcher after installing the Xbox App and Xbox Identity Provider from the microsoft store, as suggested. Thank you for the comments explaining this. It's too bad that the Minecraft launcher can't give a more helpful error message explaining what is missing instead of just saying "Something went wrong in the login process!".
