MCPE-118569 iOS crash if phone is locked during "Generating World" Incomplete MCPE-87778 Crafting recipe doesn’t update when cursor moves on PS4 Duplicate

Comments

Confirmed still an issue today on the PS4, update 1.20.2. My kids just got Kindles and I wanted to play together with them with cross-play instead of splitscreen, but no such luck. I spent two hours sorting through the web of permissions and privacy settings in both PSN and xbox live, only to hit the PS+ paywall for creating and joining LAN games. Very disappointing, and seemingly unnecessary. 😞

Until this morning I hadn’t been able to replicate the issue, but today I was able to get the app to crash during the load screen by locking and unlocking the phone. It did not lock my entire phone.

@Charles Bohall

I think you might be onto something by noting it happens while signing into the realm. I lost many villagers when my base (where I login and log out most often) was within 3-5 chunks of the village center. When I moved my base either into the village (so the villagers are within 1-2 chunks of me) or far away from the village (so the villagers are MANY chunks away when I login), the number of villagers disappearing dropped dramatically. This was particularly bad while playing on iOS where the chunk simulation distance is locked at 4.

Based on this, I believe one root cause of disappearances is partially loaded chunks as noted elsewhere in this thread.

Returning to your note about it happening while signing into the realm. I’ve noticed with audio on that I sometimes hear mob sounds and can even get attacked during the last few seconds of the “Generating world” screen. This tells me that my chunk and perhaps the ones immediately adjacent are at least partially loaded, even though I can visibly see them load when I can finally see my world and react.

I wonder if it’s during this partially loaded period that villagers and mobs pathfind across chunks borders — even ones blocked by walls, because the walls haven’t loaded — and disappear.

Easily fixed by adding a button to the UI to craft a full stack that’s available for all bedrock editions. Just add a text box with “OR” in between both outputs and add a second box with a full stack of items. Only enable if the needed resources are available. Even better if there’s a spin box or line edit to manually edit the number as desired. This isn’t a hard UI trick.

This is happening to me consistently in my village that seems to span multiple chunks. I blockaded the villagers in their homes while I secured the village, and they stayed alive as long as they were secured within their homes. They were like this for several dozen in-game days, multiple app exits and closures - sometimes with me working through the night, and sometimes with me sleeping in random beds throughout the village.

Yesterday I finally released a few of the villages to wander, I saw three of them breed two children. I remained in the chunk, or the one to the left of it, working on my farm for a few in-game days. When I re-entered the village, all but one of the wandering villagers had disappeared without a trace. No zombies had arrived, and there were no long falls for them to suicide. Perplexed, I further secured the village and released one more villager from his home.

Two in-game days later the original villager (with whom I had traded and should therefore be locked) had disappeared. Today, all villagers are gone except the one still secured in his home. I regret not leaving two so that I could breed them.

What I think is happening is that my village spans the edge of two different L2 maps, which I assume means that it spans multiple chunks. The village bell is in the eastern L2 map, but the villager's bed and work site were both in the western L2 map. I was hanging out in the western L2 map when the villager disappeared. I believe that he had visited the village bell for his usual afternoon socializing, but despawned when he left the map I occupied.

All of this happened on my iphone 7 game, on version 1.16.1. I did exit the app a few times during that play session, so that might also contribute.

I'll also add that there's a several-block elevation difference between parts of the village near the village bell. In addition, the villagers had to go up, and then back down, 2-5 blocks to reach the bell for the daily social time. They seemed to have difficulty navigating that elevation difference, and it wouldn't surprise me if there was a bug somewhere in the pathfinding.

This is happening to me consistently in a village that I painstakingly spent hours and hours securing. Relevant data is that the villagers remained and stayed alive as long as they were secured within their homes - I shuttered them in their homes with fences to prevent escape while I built the wall, terraformed ledges and ponds, etc. They were like this for several in-game days, sometimes with me working through the night, and sometimes with me sleeping in random beds throughout the village.

Today, when I finally released a few of the villages to wander, I saw three of them breed two children. I remained in the chunk, or the one next to it, working on my farm for a few in-game days. When I re-entered the village, all but one of the wandering villagers had disappeared without a trace. No zombies had arrived, and there were no long falls for them to suicide. MCPE-79725 says that the recipe doesn't show up if the ingredients are missing. In my experience, they don't show up at all until you actually craft the recipe, whether or not you have the ingredients.

On iOS I didn't have this issue. I tap once to bring up the recipe, then tap the item in the crafting interface to actually craft it. I liked this implementation because it created the opportunity to inspect the ingredients, and moving the "cursor" costs nothing in a tap interface. I don't know whether it would translate well in the PS4 interface.
