MCPE-119105 Game Freezes When "Launch New Minecraft" Is Selected Incomplete

Comments

There are so many game-breaking bugs like this that somehow made it into the "final" update. I really hope that at some point the devs can revisit Legacy to iron out the most egregious ones like this because I feel like I'm stepping into a minefield every time I boot up the Legacy edition

After leaving the game frozen at the logo screen for over half an hour, I was greeted with a blue screen and error message CE-38700-8. I understand that the most recent update included a way for data to be sent to the developers regarding the issue if half an hour had passed, and my guess is that this is the way the devs have done this. Can anyone else confirm if they get this error code after half an hour of being stuck on the logo screen?

I seem to be stuck in an endless loop of finding some bizarre workaround and using it reliably for a few days before it suddenly breaks and I have to find a new one. A few weeks ago I was able to open the application by having a second account logged in as well as my primary account. This worked for a few days before breaking. Just recently I discovered that, if one of my friends through Playstation was also playing Minecraft, I could click on the little prompt to launch the game next to their name below the application and it would load successfully. This now seems to be broken, as well. Eventually I'm going to run out of tricks.

Edit: Button combination worked for about two days, both before and after the most recent update. Every time it worked I had begun to press the buttons before the red screen had fully appeared and held them down for the duration of the red screen. Now it seems not to be working as reliably anymore.

@Sock I have the disc version of the game, purchased originally in early 2017. At this point I'd rather not risk it and just wait for an official fix to be absolutely sure nothing will break.

I first experienced this bug in early August of 2020. From that point up until about a week ago, I have been unable to play the game. I have been hesitant to try deleting and re-installing, seeing as how some people are reporting world corruptions and losing the Editions button (which, according to Mojang Support, there is no fix for), and the button combination has been useless. Inexplicably, I tried to load the game last weekend and found that it worked. I played for a while and shut it off. The next day, I was initially unable to open the game, but then I closed the app, had another user join, switched back to the first user, then opened it again, and it allowed me to play. Today, I attempted to re-create the conditions of the previous occurrences and found that it worked again, but a separate bug caused the game to freeze and I was forced to close the application. Since then, the game has been inaccessible. The fact that this bug and its predecessor have stuck around for over a year is very strange to me, and it leads me to believe that the development team currently is unable to replicate the issue, thus making it nearly impossible to fix. Is there any more information that the community can provide that would assist in the resolution of this bug?

(Brianna Means) You can add a vote for the red screen bug under the ticket for MCPE-84790MCPE-84790

I think the most unfortunate part of this situation is that the version of Minecraft that a person paid for has now been taken away and replaced with a version that is quite different, and that they did not pay for. Of course, it could be argued that the Bedrock edition is simply an update to PS4 Minecraft, but it is classified as a different edition of the game by Mojang; it could be argued that the content that one purchased has now been replaced with different content.

I have tried a few workarounds as suggested here, but none have been successful, so far. I have tried waiting for a few hours for the game to load; after seven hours I gave up. I have tried turning off the Wi-Fi connection, but that didn't work, either. I haven't tried the button combination or deleting and reinstalling, as I am paranoid that I may lose the Editions button if I do either.

I fully rescind my previous statement. It's still freezing. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

(Timur) I just upgraded to version 8.00, as well.

(GoldenHelmet) I can confirm that, after updating to the latest Playstation software, my game is no longer freezing on the red logo screen. It did hang on the white screen (MCPE-58897) for a few minutes, but eventually the main menu loaded. I am slightly glad that the freeze has momentarily gone, though I am uncertain whether or not the bug will reappear, or if anyone is experiencing it post-PS update. I, personally, would have fewer reservations about this whole situation if the bug was fixed officially by Mojang, as opposed to a platform software update. I will update if the bug reappears.

Update: The bug returned.

(Nate Larking) Wow, that’s really unfortunate. I personally much prefer the Legacy version to Bedrock, so knowing that, if I wind up losing Editions, it’s gone forever, is really disheartening.

I really hope this isn't marked as a duplicate of MCPE-63401, as the mods have done with some other reports like this. In the case of that report, it's possible the user never had Editions in the first place. This, however, is an instance of the button disappearing, which it absolutely should not be doing.

Some users in this thread and on Reddit have reported that leaving the game ample time to load will eventually cause the logo screen to go away. In my case, this has not proven to be true, at least not reasonably so. On one occurrence, I left the game alone on the red screen for about seven hours before finally giving up and closing the application to play something else.

[Theodore] I have many worlds that I have not updated to Bedrock from Editions; I don't think I have a single Bedrock world. Every time, I'll load up the game and launch Editions immediately to play in one of the old worlds.

[Theodore] I can confirm that I have never tried to sign in with a Microsoft account or bought anything through the marketplace, and I am unable to get past the red screen anyway.

I have compiled a slew of information regarding this bug and MCPE-58897 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wq_pxE9RT9Y

(Jason Hopkins) this sounds like an instance of MCPE-58897.

After looking through some of the replies in this thread, I decided to open the Minecraft app and simply wait to see if it would load at all, even after a long time. I left the console alone to do other things, but seven hours later, the game had still not moved past the red logo screen. At this point, I have essentially spent $20 on an image file.

Can we get some sort of update regarding when a potential permanent fix will be released? It has been three months since this report was filed, but a similar bug was first reported only three days after Bedrock came to PS4, meaning that these sort of problems have been occurring for about nine months. While there have been a few hotfixes since June, none of the fixes have been permanent, apparently.
