Before Mojang fixes this bug, consider using the resource pack I uploaded that fixes it.

The reason why the default value is -1 is that the game uses byte type for text_opacity field and therefore the default value, 255, is overflowed to -1.
Because of this, value between -128 and -1 should work like opacity 128~255, and it does work like that when I test it.
Then, someone should close this as duplicated.
And, what if that was just a bug of fabulous graphics setting, what is that massive errors when I launch minecraft?
Oh! I was using Fabulous and when I changed graphic to fancy, it fixed! It wasn't snapshot's bug, I just changed graphic setting from fancy to fabulous when the snapshot was out! So this is fabulous graphic's bug, right?
You should test the glow ink sac in dark room or something. For signs, you should dye the signs to see the difference. Black letter stay black even if glow ink sacs used. Glow item frames don't emit light to world. But if item in it is dark, it is a bug.
