As far as i know, players in spectator mode shouldn't be able to influence the game world in any way. I think it works as intended.
I have a bad laptop with only 2 GB of RAM. Minecraft 1.12 was playable... now with 1.13+ seems like I have to say goodbye to Minecraft or stay in 1.12.
Please this should NOT be considered a bug!

I have exactly the same problem with 1.14.4 on my linux (OpenSuse 42.3) since yesterday and my Launcher log also says the same.
And the big bottom button of the Launcher stucks while saying "Preparing..."
