I tried reinstalling it, and wsreset, but the problem is still there. I much prefer to use the new launcher because with the old launcher I experience MCL-15978, and the added convienince of having bedrock/dungeons for windows in the same launcher is why I don't use the old one. I'm reporting this becuase no one else seems to have, and its an issue with an option that can be toggled on or off. It's not going to stop me from using this launcher, as I can just turn off animated play buttons.

1. feedback for caves and cliffs experimental snapshots must be reported at https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/4408790359309-Experimental-World-Generation-Snapshot-7-Feedback. THE BUG TRACKER DOES NOT ACCEPT FEEDBACK FOR THESE VERSIONS.
2. If you were downgrading versions, expect buggy stuff to happen.
3. Realms tells you to use the latest stable release of Minecraft available (currently 1.17.1)
4. This bug is useless. There's no screenshots, videos, or logs.
Learn how the bug tracker works, please.

Please specify the issue and add screenshots/videos if needed. Mojang cannot fix a bug if they have no idea what it is.

They are NOT intended to be launcher snapshots. But here's how you download them.
1. Go to https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/new-world-generation-java-available-testing, then scroll down until you see the green download link. It should download a .zip file named somthing along the lines of "1.18_Experimental_3"
2. Open the .zip you downloaded.
3. select the folder inside the zip that has the same name, then copy it.
4. go to your .minecraft/versions folder. If you don't already know how to get to that, open the game, go to options > resource packs > then click open resource pack folder, then go up a folder, and search for the folder named versions.
5. Paste your copied folder in said versions folder.
6. Make sure your game and launcher are both closed
7. open the launcher
8. go to installations, and make sure that "modded" is the only checked one
9. create a new installation, and select the version as 1.18 experimental.
10. add a seperate directory! Snapshots and ESPECIALLY experimental snapshots are not stable and can corrupt files, including worlds, settings, and more.
11. To create a new installation, go to the folder icon in your installation-creating menu, then right click and select create new folder. Name the folder whatever you want, as long as it doesn't have the same name as another folder.
12. open the game, adjust your settings, and you're good to go.

Can confirm in Launcher version 2.2.3965.

Seems to be fixed in 1.18 experimental snapshot 2.
From the changelog:

  • Underground biomes interfere less with surface biomes. They can still leak out of cave entrances sometimes though (because it looks kinda cool!)

(Haven't tested it myself though.(
