Issue persists on Switch and PC on 1.20.31. A lot of these problems would be addressed if villagers that are locked in are prioritized over non-locked in villagers to claim a job block. There's some other issues associated with duplicate villager professions (like a newly discovered village having two clerics, but only one brewing station in town), but fixing this one aspect would allow the player to correct most situations.

I keep winding up with duplicate professions where a locked in villager still has their profession (as expected), but no block to replenish trades. Destroying all blocks of that profession doesn't help since the next available villager, who never had that profession, keeps claiming the block ahead of the locked-in villager.

Finally traced my recurring shield problem to throwing a trident and was then able to search out this issue here. Also happens while throwing from a horse, btw.

On Bedrock PC, I also noticed that I'm not able to throw a trident unless it's fully charged. In other words, there's no ability to draw it back slightly before release like a bow. May be related?

Nonetheless, before finding this report, I was able to consistently restore functionality by tapping right click while holding the trident once it's returned to me via loyalty III. As others have noted, drawing a bow also restores functionality. Until this bug is addressed, I need to remember to tap right click once I have the trident back in my hand to undo this. I've already died a few times before finally figuring this out.

OP here. Given the recent comments, I ran a quick test with the original parameters and I can confirm I'm able to successfully connect from the Nintendo Switch to the Win10 PC for the first time. I made no configuration changes to either device to further troubleshoot this, so I'm going to continue to assume this was an issue on the backend somewhere that has been addressed. I hope this remains stable, but from my perspective, this issue can close.

Appreciate all the confirmation that came in from others having the same problem which allowed me to avoid pouring more hours into troubleshooting my devices and network. We had just started playing while this issue was taking place so we never had the luxury of seeing it work before, until now.

@Chris Ratliff

Can you elaborate on this please? My child (on the Nintendo Switch) happened to notice that their in-game name displayed on my Win10 screen isn't actually their Xbox gamertag the other day. Seems like it's the name that they were using when first playing Minecraft offline on the Nintendo Switch. Afterwards I signed them up for Microsoft/XBox account to (try and) begin cross playing online with me on the Windows 10 PC. When doing so they used the same name plus a few numbers to be a unique Xbox playertag. Those numbers don't show up on my end on the Win10 PC. I didn't think much of it until reading your comment.

How does one, "add the Xbox gamertag (not the mc username)" on the Nintendo Switch? On the Nintendo Switch we're already logging into the "Nintendo account" and then logging into a "Microsoft account" per the Minecraft main window when first launching the game. Actually it does all of that automatically and you can see the button labels changing accordingly. What else is there to do? You could be on to something on why this doesn't work for some of us.

Came to report the same, and also noticed previous reports going back to 2020 and 2021 were closed due to inactivity. I personally cannot speak to years ago, but this is most certainly still an issue in 1.19.51. Anytime Nintendo Switch (hosting in our case) interacts with a typing dialogue in-game, my Win10 PC game lags terribly. I can move fine and my animations are fine, but entities around me do not respond. This includes mobs (especially hostile) frozen in place, inability to pick up floating items, blocks don't break, etc. To the first point, I've been killed several times when the lag ends and several things happen in a few ticks, including getting attacked. At least we caught on that it's the chat so the Nintendo Switch user avoids typing unless everyone else is in a safe spot. The lag ends the moment the Nintendo Switch user stops typing, so there's no question what is causing the lag; very easy to reproduce.
