I did more digging last night and looked over most of the .ips crash logs (I’m an iOS Dev). It is not related to Xcode 27 as I originally thought. I can see that Minecraft Bedrock v26.51 was built with Xcode 26.1, so it’s not an issue of two companies (Apple/Mojang) doing major changes at the same time.
I strongly believe this is a Mojang coding error with Apple’s graphics “Metal” engines. My hunch is, the game’s menu system is trying to tell the graphics engine to make a “zero sized” window, image, texture, etc. Where some iOS devices may support this and others may crash. Which may be why some other reports are non-crashing blank white or black or just the DappleForest background with no buttons. One commonality in the .ips’ is `-[MTLTextureDescriptorInternal validateWithDevice:]`.
“MTLTextureDescriptorInternal” must have an external public version, and it does: MTLTextureDescriptor The fix seems fairly simple, RTFM (Read The Friendly Manual, we all love Mojang and MC right?), or TLDR; MTLTextureDescriptor size params must be non-zero!
Searching on this MTLTextureDescriptorInternal crash, I see other apps/projects have had similar Metal crashes coming from “zero sized” dimensions:
This appears to be Google’s Filament Metal fix for a similar looking crash log:
id<MTLTexture> MetalSwapChain::ensureDepthStencilTexture(uint32_t width, uint32_t height) {
// Metal does not allow zero-sized textures, and will abort if we try to
// create one ([MTLTextureDescriptorInternal validateWithDevice:]).
width = std::max(width, 1u);
height = std::max(height, 1u);I’d fix myself if I could. 🥲
New releases (26.50, 26.51, and beyond) of Bedrock for iOS/iPadOS are most likely being built with Apple’s latest Xcode 27 (released last week as well), where the iOS 27 SDK crashes any app that doesn’t support UIScene event handling regardless of what platform (iPhone/iPad) and OS (iOS17- iOS27) the app is running on.
I opened MinecraftBedrock v26.51 on my kid’s iPad (10th gen, iPadOS 27.0) while tethered to my Mac with Console app open, I found this log on launch:
fault 08:05:32.839422-0500 minecraftpe `UIScene` life cycle is now required when building with the latest SDKs. Apps that don't adopt will fail to launch.
fault 08:05:32.839679-0500 minecraftpe Update the Info.plist: 1) `UIRequiresFullScreen` will soon be ignored. 2) Support for all orientations will soon be required.Apple Tech Note:
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/technotes/tn3187-migrating-to-the-uikit-scene-based-life-cycle
specifically states:
In the next major release following iOS 26, UIScene lifecycle will be required when building with the latest SDK; otherwise, your app won’t launch. While supporting multiple scenes is encouraged, only adoption of scene life-cycle is required.

I do notice the app does “stay open”, despite the faults mentioned above,
and I know for a while attempting to use iPadOS' “window mode” didn’t not play well with Minecraft Bedrock. I think this is Apple’s way to force apps into compatibility with the new iPhone Due. 🤷♂️
Similar on iPad 10th generation, on iOS 26.6 and 26.7, with screen time parental controls enabled, window mode off, force quit all other apps, rebooted, etc. loads to black, then after a long while it finally shows the dappled forest background but the menus are broken, tapping screen triggers invisible buttons/menus. Random world starts loading, but HUD is missing.
Also seen on iPhone 13 Pro Max on iOS 26.6.2, no screen time, not signed in for months. updated iPhone’s MC to 26.51 to verify above. Game main menu loaded normally, but after a very odd login experience using Xbox/MS account, after dismissing the modal pop ups and signing in successfully, only the dappled forest background appeared (main menu options disappeared). Returned after force quit.
However 26.51 does work normally on a different device, IPad Air M3 on iOS 26.6, no screen time parental settings, window mode disabled.
Same experience with iPad 10th generation, on iOS 26.6 and 26.7. MC 26.51 loads to black after Mojang Studios red splash screen, appears to hang on black screen for about 20 seconds, then dappled forest bg loads and then sometimes the Play/settings/Realms buttons, paper doll in bottom right is glitchy, mostly invisible. the screen tap gestures are triggering different menu actions than what is shown on screen. In game HUD is missing.
Oh wow, I just found out you can connect a Bluetooth keyboard to iPhone and while it was connected, I was able to “Command + V” paste the clipboard content into the fields! Seems like the clipboard content is visible to the app, but there is no default paste mechanism/button to apply it to the text input fields.
this workaround works for me → Remove the Mac’s Passkey from the windows/xbox account’s security settings.. 😑

putting it all together, in order to login with a default Passkey, we need someone to add the BT “usage” string to the macOS Java launcher’s Info.plist file.
Workaround appears to be remove the Passkey in your MS account for the Mac that’s running launcher.

had a similar issue, and was able to fix by removing the Passkey for my Mac in my MS account’s security settings and that fixed it for me, https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/1j0mmia/minecraft_launcher_crashing_when_i_try_to_login/
I also tried signing in via my GitHub account, but that also crashes with same error.
macOS: 15.3.1 (24D70)
launcher: v3.9.23-2.2.2

Same issue here.
It appears the “Sign in to Minecraft” pop up is trying to access the Mac’s bluetooth and is being killed by macOS due to security reasons, specifically a missing “why the app needs BT access” string in the app’s Info.plist.
Looking at my crash report it seems like the MS sign in web page uses Chromium Embedded Framework which is trying to access the mac’s IOBluetoothDeviceInquiry
Could be a bug in Chromium Embedded Framework or the MC Launcher’s Info.plist (probably the latter).
Log’s Termination Reason: This app has crashed because it attempted to access privacy-sensitive data without a usage description. The app's Info.plist must contain an NSBluetoothAlwaysUsageDescription key with a string value explaining to the user how the app uses this data.
Attached is the crash log
This is still a bug, as of Sept 27th, 2026 (HF 26.51 app submission), iOS App Store says “iOS 13” is supported and allows players to download. This is causing others to report this as a “Minecraft crashed on my iOS 13 iPad” bug. To fix this, Mojang must update the Xcode Target config called “Minimum Deployment”. I bet it’s still set to iOS 13, but should be bumped to iOS 14 to match help.minecraft.net.
