Minecraft crashing and failing to open on iPad after updating to 26.50

When trying to open Minecraft after updating it it shows Mojang for a swift millisecond then quickly flashes to a white screen and kicks me out of app, this happened on both my IPad and my sisters IPad. ( we both have the same kind of iPad ) I have restarted my iPad and reinstalled Minecraft twice now and tried every trick in the book yet it continues on. I even downloaded it on my phone, it works on my iPhone perfectly fine.

I am also experiencing this on an iPad running iOS18.7.9, I have attached the .ips crash file from one of the app launches which has the same behaviour as the original reporter. This did not resolve after updating to iOS 18.7.10 either.

I experience the same on my iPad Pro (A1670) . This is the crash report Codex made after analysing the IPS file and game logs

Minecraft startup crash diagnostic extract
Device model identifier: iPad7,1
OS: iPadOS 17.7.11 (21H461)
Minecraft: 1.26.50 (1.26.50.04)
Device, OS and version from the previously supplied Apple .ips report.

Exact lines from minecraft-live.log:
Line 28444: Sep 15 21:45:35.808386 minecraftpe(Metal)[446] <Error>: MTLValidateFeatureSupport, line 6575: error '<private>'
Line 30392: Sep 15 21:45:36.319777 ReportCrash[124] <Notice>: ASI found [libsystem_c.dylib] (sensitive) 'MTLValidateFeatureSupport:6575: failed assertion `Texture Cube Array is only supported on MTLGPUFamilyApple4 and later.'

Matching stack in the earlier .ips report:
Rendering Pool(0): Minecraft -> AGXTexture initWithDevice:desc:isSuballocDisabled: -> MTLTextureDescriptorInternal validateWithDevice: -> MTLValidateFeatureSupport -> MTLReportFailure -> __assert_rtn -> abort (SIGABRT).

Conclusion: texture cube array creation fails the GPU feature support check. The exact Minecraft feature requesting it is not yet identified.

Also reproducible on iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPadOS 16.7.16, Minecraft 26.50.

Minecraft crashes immediately on launch and never reaches the main menu.

I first force-restarted the iPad and offloaded/reinstalled Minecraft, with no change. I then backed up all worlds, completely deleted Minecraft and its local data, restarted the iPad and installed Minecraft 26.50 again from the App Store.

The completely clean installation still crashes immediately, before signing in or restoring any worlds or other Minecraft data.

Minecraft 26.50 works normally on another, newer iPad in the household.

I am having the same issue on iPad sixth gen…tried full hard restart, offloading app, deleting and completely reinstalling app, and relaunching app offline (no wifi) and in airplane mode. After launching Minecraft, Mojang screen comes up (sometimes for just a couple of seconds, sometimes about 10 seconds), then goes to white screen then app crashes to iPad Home Screen. iPad has over 80 GB of free storage space.

Also have this problem on iPadOS 17.7.11, the latest available for my iPad Pro 2nd Generation. Tried restarting the iPad, updating the OS, and still have the same symptoms… red screen with Mojang logo briefly appears, then a white screen briefly appears, then the app automatically closes.

Attaching latest ips file for the crash.

Attached is the latest (9:42pmMST) crash’s ips file.

Same problem here.
Device: iPad 7th gen
OS: iPadOS 18.7.1
App Version: 26.50
Game crashes immediately on launch (splash screen / 0s crash). Clean reinstall, hard reboot, and clearing com.mojang data did not resolve the issue.
Crash dumps indicate SIGSEGV during RepositoryLoading::loadPacks while parsing built-in vanilla resource/behavior packs.
