My god this is an old ticket. I remember resolving this years ago.

Please do not assume that the differences in behaviors between the PC, Pocket Edition, XBOX, PS3, or Raspberry Pi editions of Minecraft are bugs.

Does this issue still occur in the latest version?

A workaround has been provided on that ticket.

Workaround for this issue:

  1. Find the IP address for the device you wish to connect to. The IP address can be found by going into the settings, clicking on WiFi and clicking on the network you are currently connected to.

  2. On the device you are using, go to the worlds screen, tap the Edit button in the top right corner, and then tap the External button that appears next to it.

  3. Enter the IP address of the device you wish to connect to in the Address field, erasing what was already there. When you are finished, press Add Server.

  4. Click on the newly added server to connect to the other device.

Before doing this, make sure that the local server multiplayer option is set to on in the game's settings.
