Redstone hitbox not allowing block below to be hit

When making a supercomputer, I discovered that, even if the redstone is not displayed in a particular area, the hitbox covered that area. So I could not pick-block or destroy the block underneath from directly above.

Please do not mark unreleased versions as affected. You do not have access to this yet.

Confirmed but unsure if intended.
But if changed, it might be too difficult to hit the redstone dust or you might destroy the underlying block by accident.

The hitbox is block size
This has been a "feature" since beta.

Confirmed for 1.7.4, 1.7.5, 14w08a and 14w10c, possibly intended.

This is really annoying with block GUIs (such as command blocks). I want to open the GUI, and I have to either remove the redstone or carve out other blocks nearby (which is impractical if those were also command blocks).

There's no reason (except to prevent other bugs) that redstone should have that wide of a hitbox. Ideally, it would be about 2/3 of a block wide, but in the center of the block. This way, it's still possible to select the redstone OR the block underneath.

Confirmed for 1.8.

Confirmed in 1.8.1-pre3.

Relates to MCPE-61245.
