1. Attempt to pressure a stone pressure plate
2. Stone pressure plate does not become pressured
3. 😞
This only occurs on stone pressure plates and not wooden ones. The pressure plate does not animate or output any redstone signal. Logging out and back in did not help.

I have experienced this also.

Horses and other mobs trigger them but players don't.

Confirmed, seems to only affect players.

I actually like the new behaviour (even if it is unintended). I can see definate uses for a mob-only pressure plate (likewise a player only one).
If the behaviour is kept then the type of pressure plate generated in desert temples will need changing.

MY issue was NOT that the pressure plate doesn't work. IT's that it DOESN'T ACTIVATE THE TRAP!!! The plate no longer does its purpose in a MAP GENERATED BUILDING!
Yes people have said that it doesn't work with players and this may be a good and useful thing.
Therefore TEMPLES AND THE TRAP PLATE needs to be looked in to and FIXED! Whether that's changing the workings of the stone plate BACK or replacing the plate used when GENERATING.

I've also experienced this issue... Wooden, Golden and Iron plates works perfectly well... Just not the stone plate...

Just another silly, unnecessary bug ... all pressure plates work fine except the stone pressure plates. And even more weird: The bug doesn't affect mobs, only players! Wtf is Mojang doing to produce bugs like this ???

All bugs are, by definition, unnecessary. This, however, may simply be an incompletely implemented feature. It would be useful to be able to distinguish between players and mobs, allowing you to make traps that won't trigger on players.

OK, "may be an incompletely implemented feature" is a valid argument. Better would be to add another pressure plate which only detects players (e.g. an obsidian pressure plate), this would be better suited to build systems to distinguish between players and mobs ...

i think that when mojang made the wool carpets they may have broke the pressure plates by using them as the base insted of starting from scrath and the new programing broke stone pressure plates.

Affects windows 7 as well!

Happening to me too.

I came here looking to see if this was a known issue after a player reported this problem in a thread at the Minecraft Forums. Player reports the same issue, that stone pressure plates no longer work but that wooden ones do. Player also reports that Mobs DO NOT trigger pressure plates either after testing with two (unspecified) types.

I have done tests all tested mobs DO trigger stone pressure plate, only player does not (see attached images). Greg Garcia may have a different issue?

I will confirm Mob testing with the player and advise him to create a separate issue if in fact Mobs do not trigger a signal from his stone pressure plates as he has stated. Thank you for the confirmation photos relating to this issue Neil Lake.

Do you think that this could be caused by carpets?

Experiencing all of the same issues as described above. Running Minecraft (Vanilla) on Mac OSX 10.7.5 Java Version 1.6.0_43

Same with me. Minecraft Vanilla Windows XP Java 7 Update 21.

I doubt that carpets caused this issue.

Fixed in 13w16b? Yay!
