The Bug
When a dark oak log is stripped, the sides of the log are way too bright compared to the top texture and compared to all other stripped logs. All other stripped logs have proper brightness and look fine, but the dark oak simply looks very out of place due to this.
Edit:
I've now just noticed that on Bedrock Edition, the stripped dark oak log is darker and looks much better. I assume Java's should look like Bedrock's too but doesn't for some reason.
Maybe not. It looks like Bedrock had the darker texture even before the texture update.

This is the case for Bedrock too, but just with the stripped spruce texture. Java, in my opinion, has the correct texture that actually matches the corresponding plank.
Can confirm this in 1.18 Pre-release 2. I've attached an in-game side-by-side comparison of the textures in java edition and bedrock edition.

Whether it's a bug or not, this should be changed/fixed. The Bedrock texture is way more fitting for dark oak, and looks much better for building too. It blends better with other dark oak components such as stairs and slabs. The Java texture sticks out like a sore thumb against those other dark oak blocks.
I do a lot of building - stripped dark oak is a great building material on Bedrock edition, but looks terrible in buildings on Java. Mojang, please change the Java texture.
