Crash when you open a chested horse inventory

When you open a chested horse inventory obtained through a 3rd party tool or through the /summon command, it crashes the game.

K looks like this is considered a bug.

Weird, I though I put it on public security level...

Horses are not supposed to have chests.

MC-16370 <- this one is valid

@Dinnerbone in the textures of horses can you find the textures of chests. It should be possible to get a chest on a Horse using NBT edit. It is needed for custom maps. Please fix it :/

Hmm Dinnerbone, they have chests... Let me upload a screenshot of a chested horse obtained through a 3rd party tool.

  • Actually fixing the game crashing and not working as it should (either prevent GUI from opening or fix the inventory array size).

  • Map making.

  • Could be added to Vanilla (but regular horses would have much smaller storage)
I believe those three reasons are enough. This isn't a hard-to-fix problem, it's just a single number or if statement.

I am not asking for chested horses to work. I am asking for a fix to prevent Minecraft from crashing.
If this is done by preventing the client from displaying the GUI or a similar solution, alright.
However like @unknown said it would be useful for Map Making.

I would also like to say this should be reopened. The fact that after two years people are still looking at this is pretty amazing.

@redstonehelper
I would say the main usecases for having this bug addressed are
1] to prevent crashes (Given that it is such an easy/simple command to run and something that people who are first learning about command blocks is likely to try)
2] It would be a very useful feature for adventure maps, after all It's not like it's even cheating the system or game as you can only do it whilst in creative.

It's pretty unfortunate if a mere one-character typo on the donkey-summoning command can lead to accidentally crashing the game and losing your work.

Confirmed fixed for 16w07b
In 16w07b ChestedHorse is always false for horses
