Go to specific coordinates that are very high above ground, run /weather rain and try to use a riptide trident.
❌ It doesn't work
Keep in mind that it only works in normal biomes, so before you reproduce it, make sure that you aren't in snowy or dry biomes.
For example, it doesn't work when the snow has some weird orange-ish color. This happens at Y=2100

The game doesn't allow you to use it when the snow has that ''orange-ish'' color (described at MC-168607), which firstly happens at Y-2047. Try it.
I cannot use riptide in any altidute with snowfall, and consistently everywhere where it is raining.
Are you sure this is not an instance of MC-128169?

@unknown, it is not, because at MC-168607, there is described that at certain elevations (like Y=2100), the snow has orange-ish color. That is where you cannot use the riptide. Also, you said that you cannot use riptide in altitudes, where it is snowing. That is because this issue is blocked by MC-176452.

Isn't it intended to not be able to use riptide in the snow? Bedrock always had it and I thought how Java used to work (being able to riptide in the snow above certain elevations) was a bug because you still can't riptide in snowy biomes.

Can confirm in 23w03a
Relates to MC-168607
Can't confirm, I was able to use one at Y=281 above an ocean biome
