End portals sometimes teleport the player to overworld coordinates

My friends and I were playing on a small server we were running. We decided to travel to the end after having previously gone there multiple times, and one of them was teleported almost 3000 blocks away from us. They said their screen turned a greenish colour and then then started to suffocate and started to mine but they kept dying, so they opted to screenshot their coordinates and wait for us to get to them. They were at Y 33, so they were not in the void. They could mine but not move, and they had some valuables with them so we decided to find them. Once we got there, we found the largest end city we had come upon yet, and we found that they have definitely mined around them. We mined some extra, and they rejoined and were fine.

If this had happened on a singleplayer world they would have been screwed, and while I can't jump on the server right now to check my friend said that it might be the same coordinates as the overworld portal. This was the only account I could find (in a short time, I don't have too much time atm) that talks about this specifically: https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/server-support-and/2970066-ender-portal-teleports-to-wrong-location and one on here that was similar but not quite the same (and resolved): MC-90036.

The attachment is the screenshot we took.

What exactly did they do when they entered the end portal? Also, do you have any data packs on your server?

Sorry I got back to so late. Anyways, before they entered the portal there was actually a lot of lag that we decided to clear up by some of us leaving real quick, but to my knowledge they did not leave the server. Once they entered the portal they said they had a few seconds before they started to suffocate. There are no data packs on the server.

had this same issue on the 20w51a snapshot and i was able to recreate it.

the player can end up at the overworld coordinates of the end portal instead of the obsidian platform if they are pushed into the side of an end portal block by a slime block on a piston.

I have been able to recrate this three times, and i dont think it is usually possible because it requires removing the portal frames using giant red mushrooms.

i havent been able to successfully use the slime block method but i have found a consistant way to use the water method. you go down by 17 blocks and across by 11 blocks measured from the closest portal frame, all in downwards flowing water. The water having a one block gap of air between it and the portal. You have to stand on a wall point straight upwards with speed 1 and depth strider 3. start sprinting then almost instantly (whilst still holding sprint) hold jump. you should end up just between the last portal and the frame. you should then be teleported to the overworld coords in the end. if you get the timing right you can get it to be 75% accurate or so.

Still falling in void after going thru end portal in 2022

Can confirm in 1.19.3 and 23w07a

I witnessed this very bug on a Twitch stream yesterday.

Can't 100% confirm it as the streamer didn't have coordinates on, but if you look closely just before dying they look up and can see the bottom of the islands somewhere in the distance (which would make sense because their sand duper is at low coordinates in the overworld).

The video is here, at 1:41:45 . Very clearly the player is pushed into the side of the end portal by a slime block pushed by a piston, immediately gets teleported in the End somewhere under the terrain, starts falling but doesn't see it because of everything being black, and quickly starts taking void damage.

This has been fixed in 23w51a. I attached two videos: one demonstrating a fixed version, the other demonstrating a bugged version.
