When switching gamemode from survival to spectator using F3 + F4, the player's breathing does not reset.

The Bug

When switching gamemodes from survival to spectator and vice versa using F3 + F4 while being underwater, player's breathing does not reset.

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Switch the gamemode to survival:

    /gamemode survival
  1. Stand underwater. You can use these commands to do so:

    /fill ~-1 ~-1 ~-1 ~4 ~2 ~4 glass outline
    /fill ~ ~ ~ ~3 ~1 ~3 water
  1. When you see that the breathing starts to reduce, switch to spectator using F3 + F4

  2. Switch to survival again

❌ Player's breathing does not reset.

Expected Behavior

Player's breathing would reset when switching back to survival.

Observed Behavior

Player's breathing does not reset when switching back to survival.

It also doesn’t reset when switching to creative.

I request ownership of this issue because it's abandoned but still exists in the game.

MC-270537 describes the same issue, which has been fixed and marked as working as intended. I recommend forward-resolving this as a duplicate of MC-270537. The breath now fills up upon entering spectator or creative mode.

This issue affects 24w46a but not 1.21.4 Pre-Release 1. This issue has been fixed in 1.21.4 Pre-Release 1.
