(Server) Using /locate in customized worlds on a structure that is very far away or doesn't exist freezes the game

The bug

Using /locate on a non-existent or very far away structure freezes the game. The game, however, unfreezes when a structure is found. It's best to reproduce in customized worlds with many biomes scattered in small patches.

How to reproduce

  1. Download the Forest Biomes worldgen

  2. Import it to a new MC world

  3. Open it to LAN

  4. Use /locate mansion
    → ❌ Game freezes

The client itself continues to run so far for me, but the server freezes instantly.

Can reproduce in this specific circumstance with custom worlds, but not with similar cases (e.g. finding a mansion in a superflat world, or a nether fortress in a normal overworld).

Minecraft crashes when I import the file.

Here's a new one. It works, however, the game now unfreezes when the structure is found.

I'd highly suggest actually merging this report with the much more up-to-date non-customized-exclusive version MC-250276. It's the same issue, but this report makes it seem like it's unique to customized worlds, while it is absolutely not.

I agree, there's no sense in having two open tickets for the same issue.

Resolving as a duplicate of MC-250276 since this report (MC-206327) is the same core problem. MC-250276 has more information, more issue links, and is kept up to date more frequently so I'll be resolving this ticket.
