Sometimes cave biomes will generate above the ground in mountain biomes. In dripstone caves, the dripstone itself doesn't generate but the biome does. This causes a splotch of stone in the middle of the mountain instead of snow.
An example of this bug:
Version: 22w15a
Seed: 106642798
Teleport command: /tp @p 84043 130 -100767
How to reproduce:
Find a mountain biome that has a dripstone cave underneath it. Note that this issue only happens on some occassions.
This may be a minor issue but it can cause ugly splotches of stone in the middle of snowy mountain biomes. It has the same effect as a microbiome. I've also uploaded 2 pictures of the example i gave above. In the first picture you can see that it is infact a dripstone caves and not a stony peaks. And in the second picture you can see a good overview.
Thank you for taking your time reading through this bugreport. Kind regards keller1971.

Can confirm but as @unknown stated this is probably intended.
This ticket closely relates to MC-236718

It doesn't need to be necessarily a mountain biome, just mountainous terrain.
Can confirm in 1.18.1.

Can confirm 1.19
I was able to reproduce this bug in Minecraft 1.19 on seed 12462728292 at the coordinates of -88, 78, 74.
Not limited to dripstone caves, I suggest just saying "cave biomes".
Can confirm in 1.19.3
Thank you for your report!

This is something that has been tweaked for Java and Bedrock during development but may still happen occasionally depending on the terrain. If you need help or have a suggestion you might like to follow a link below.
