Suspicious sand/gravel drops as an item after 30 seconds of existing as falling block. This causes the block to be obtainable using soul sand and water or a series of cobweb blocks.
You can reproduce by placing soul sand and water under a solid block that the suspicious sand is on top, then break the block that is holding the suspicious sand and it will be bouncing in the water bubbles, after some time it will break the suspicious sand droping it

(I used creative to reproduce more easily, but you can do this in survival with the instructions above)

I'd very much like suspicious sand to remain obtainable in survival in some way. Having this be fixed immediately would be sad.

Can confirm in 1.20 Pre-release 4.

I suggest renaming this ticket to "suspicious sand/gravel drops as an item after existing as a falling block for 30 seconds“. As seen from the screenshots I uploaded, they drop as an item after falling through cobweb after a while as well, meaning it's likely that the falling block drops as an item after their 30-second lifetime expires.
Won't Fix isn't a promise to never fix, it just means it is not currently planned to get fixed
You could just remove the "drop after 30 seconds" entirely, as that was an old mechanic to prevent them from existing in the void, but since void damage works on all entities, it isn't needed anymore.
This doesn’t really hurt anyone though, the sus blocks lose their items when in item form. It’s only useful for decoration and triggering observers
Сan confirm in 23w44a.
Resolution: Won't Fix
No need to comment about newer versions being affected.
This also works by placing two cobwebs underneath. The item that drops will have no loot table, though.
