The game crashes after startup on some systems (predominantly Linux systems) with AMD graphics

After installing the snapshot on Ubuntu 24.04 I cannot start the game, instead it loads until the red Mojang loading screen and then crashes with a buffer overflow. The expected behavior would be that the game can be started. A crash log is attached.

Can confirm in Arch Linux

Confirming this happening (on Arch as well) under both PrismLauncher and the Mojang launcher (installed as system packages).

My opensuse Leap 15.6 also has this issue.

The same problem with the last snapshot 25w16a and the 25w15a works fine.

@CGBSpender No, you have to wait until 25w17a to be able to play. At first I thought that they might get rid of Linux due to Vibrant Visuals, but since I read an article on minecraft.net and how they plan to bring it here there is nothing to get worried about.

It’s not just Linux that have this crash. I hope the fix they implement will be universal for affected AMD hardware users. Not just for Linux.

I reverted back to 25w15a so I could continue playing.

can confirm for linux mint rx7600 ryzen7500f
