This has been happening since 26.2-pre-2 and up to 26.2-pre-6 in my 26.2-pre-6 survival world, (haven’t been updated to 26.2-rc-1 tho but i’ll try it later)
The Smooth Lighting bug issue is commonly found frequently in the caves when i always find it almost literally everywhere including in my man-made builds in my survival world that i started since in 26.2-pre-2 up until 26.2-pre-6 i think.. i hope soon this problem is literally permanently removed for future version releases like in 26.2-rc-1 and in 26.2-rc-2
You might not notice it little bit but when you see how the lighting engine acts clearly you might know why… i think this might be happening in Vulkan API probably or nahh it even applies to OpenGL too since i use Intel UHD 620 and Intel Celeron 5205U in Linux Mint XFCE 22.3 Zena running XanMod Kernel 7.0.11-x64v2(all this extra info might’ve been completely unnecessarily irrelivant lmao but maybe it’ll help further too) that’s capable of supporting OpenGL 4.6.0, Vulkan 1.3.275(according to Linux i think) and Vulkan 1.4.348(Minecraft Detected this) to play 26.x versions like 26.1.2 and snapshots like these
I hope soon there will be permanently no such visuals issues and errors, visual bug glitches and so on in 26.2 snapshots and release candidates versions related to block lightings and ambient occlusions stuff
Maybe this issue still exists in 26.2-rc-1 so i hope soon this will be resolved..

Am i literally trippin' or is this supposed to be a part of the game..? I think i might have gone overboard on this one if nobdy ever reported this one, I thought this was resolved in in 26.2-rc-1 when i see all the lighting abominations while i explore caves since 26.2-pre-2 up until 26.2-pre-6… yet the issue still persists when i update to it.. My Environment btw: 5 year old Japanese HP ProBook mt22 laptop from second-hand supplier who literally gave this pre-installed with Windows 11 23H2 Pro, now switched to Linux Mint XFCE 22.3 Zena running XanMod Kernel 7.0.11-x64v2 in Intel Celeron 5205U, using Vulkan API Renderer 1.3.275(according to linux), 1.4.348(according to Minecraft F3 debug menu), Intel UHD 620, Launcher is PrismLauncher, 8GB(2x4GB) DDR4-2400 RAM, 512MB VRAM, 128GB M.2-SATA 3 SSD, i think you may overanalyze the images to see why and what’s the reason behind this issue… as maybe i might be the only one who started a literal survival since 26.2-pre-2 and then up to 26.2-rc-1 to see hows the development and the feature of Vulkan API doing!
I always 24/7 see this in caves, i sometimes rarely see one like this when i build my giant second story house and mining a huge single chunk. I can’t bear playing my survival world with these whenever i encounter them and when no one reported these recently, maybe this is supposed to be normal while playing in Minecraft snapshots, i hope actual 26.2 doesn’t have these when fully officially released. Because i never saw these in 26.1.2 actually when i started a survival world there(i lost my bountiful 150+ day world in a partition wipe disk in that minecraft version, well rip) so i have to start it all over again but even better. But starting in 26.2-snapshot-8 or 26.2-pre-2 that’s where i moved from minimum graphics settings possible to maximum graphics settings possible in 26.2-pre-2 and then till this day. To see how super modern minecraft would keep up with my low end system, it actually holds pretty well ngl!
How to recreate this bug…?: Step 1: Create a minecraft world(not superflat, but can be amplified). Step 2: Go to a cave and maybe this is a weird way to find out, give a rating of how the ambient occlusion looks like inside your thoughts and if it’s less than 7 stars that’s it… this is the problem i guess, i’ll give the ambient occlusion 6.5/10, it was innocent looking at first but when i go deeper mining the caves i can see why..
What the f i have this exact same issue bro but in a different environment that’s very common, this is crazy ambient occlusion, hope they didn’t ship 26.2 in June 16, 2026 with this
I did try to do it in creative superflat world i think, this is the result of what happened… try to reproduce what i just did here… i think it’s not just natural generation of caves.. it includes generally everything!
