The pre-snapshot villagers don't seem to have a problem breaking the grown crops, thus leaving empty farmland after.
Why was this resolved as invalid?
Anyone with a save older than today is going to lose all their crops in a village...
Agreed with Tibault - if the old villagers don't do the replanting behavior, they shouldn't do the digging up either.
Through testing another issue we have actually been able to recreate the failing crop plant. Please check your villagers and ensure in the trade window that they are Farmers and not fletchers or shepherds. Under certain conditions non-farmers can break crops when they should not.
I did observe a fletcher doing it, but further testing just now showed a Farmer breaking and not replanting as well.
I have a pre-14w04a farmer in my world that won't pick up the crops he breaks, so I think the cause of the bug is that they don't pick up the items, so they don't have anything to plant in their inventory.
I got the same bug, seems villagers naturally spawn without a CanPickUpLoot:1 tag and they need that for replanting, and this has nothing to do with being Shepherd/Fisherman/Fletcher instead of farmer, EVERY brown villager should farm. (even babies)
update: this seems to work in new worlds, but not my 1.7 world?
I'll see what happens in my other older worlds.
