Mining any type of stone monster egg with silk touch doesn't spawn a silverfish

Mining any type of stone monster egg (silverfish block) with a silk touch pickaxe will give the non monster egg version of the mined ressource but won't spawn silverfish

This was observed in 14w11b.

So if you find a silverfish block, you can safely destroy it without risking a confrontation with silverfish, if you use silk touch.

This seems like a problem. I can understand not dropping the block, but silverfish should still spawn.

I think silverfish shouldn't spawn under this circumstance but should still be in the mined block. It's a totally different block id than the non-silverfish version so there's no reason it shouldn't be able to.

Confirmed for 1.8-pre1

I'm guessing this is intended, the block is mined gently enough that the silverfish doesn't break out.

Confirmed for 15w44b.

Why is this WAI? All the stone brick variants are renewable (plus strongholds are infinite) now so I don't see any justification for it. This "feature" breaks a lot of custom maps (most notably CTM maps) and I don't see any scenario in which it improves the gameplay experience even in vanilla minecraft - you might as well remove the entire silvefish mob at this point since it no longer poses a threat of any kind.
