What I thought would happen:
I get brown wool.
What did happen:
I got light blue dye.
This affects afaik all colors

The colors aren't random, the cause of this issue is that dyes have the opposite data values of wool, meaning that 0 is white for wool, but 15 is white for dyes. Sheep now drop wool with the same data value as the dyes they have been colored with, while the colors should be reversed instead.
I think it relates to MC-53546 , it seems to have color related problems as well
Killed sheep drop expected color, so it is just shearing them where a different (but predictable) colored wool is dropped.
Yes. The colors are:
White > Black
Orange > Red
Magenta > Green
Light Blue > Brown
Yellow > Blue
Lime > Purple
Pink > Cyan
Gray > Light Gray
Light Gray > Gray
Cyan > Pink
Purple > Lime
Blue > Yellow
Brown > Light Blue
Green > Magenta
Red > Orange
Black > White
This probably doesn't help so much, so I've posted screenshots of my experiment.
I've encountered this bug for the first time, and already I was baffled. I sheared a White sheep thinking to get White wool, instead getting Black wool. Is there a bug in the code or something? Somebody explain to me in detail because I want to investigate the game's code.
This is oddly found and briefly explained in SethBling's snapshot review; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTqqUX6Tx0U#t=115
Confirmed
It's not completely random though.
