[MCL-5455] "Unable to upload skin" when trying to change skin

I was excited to try the new skin changing function in the newest version of the launcher (2.0.760), so I clicked the "Skins" tab and selected the .png file of my skin.

Although my custom skin was shown in the preview (See attached image), when I clicked "Save" I received an error message telling me that it was "Unable to upload skin."

Now when I load my game (version 1.11.2), it displays the Alex default skin in place of my custom skin. Even when I change my skin the old-fashioned way (though minecraft.net), my character is still displayed as the slim-armed default skin (not even the Steve (classic-armed) model).

Does the same skin, when uploaded via the website, work or give you an error message on the website?

I do not receive an error message on the website. It tells me that the skin will take a bit to upload (which I totally understand), but my skin still doesn't upload and my character shows up like Alex (I've only had this problem since the launcher updated).

I am sure that it's the launcher's fault now, as I still have the problem with my skin when I load the game in the newest 1.12 snapshot (17w06a).

Also, I tend to try everything I can think of, so I figured I'd hit the "Reset Skin" button, and it tells me "Failed to reset skin".

Not specifically noted here, my original and preferred model is Steve, but was switched to Alex, along with defaulting the texture.

Still affects version 2.0.806.

Should the website show the current uploaded skin after the page has been refreshed? If so, that's not working properly either.

I've tried to upload a few skins that I got but none of them work. They all give me an "Unable to Upload Skin." error. I also tried to upload the skins from the website which says it worked but when i get in the game, I just have the Alex skin.

I think I have found the answer to this problem. I simply logged out of the launcher all together and logged back in and somehow that made the launcher sync up with the website. I am now able to change my skin on the launcher and it will say "Success! Your skin has been uploaded!"

So for me, logging out of the launcher and logging back in resolved this issue.

Thank you so much Heather! Logging out and logging back in DID fix the problem, so I finally no longer have to use a resource pack to attempt a skin fix! Thank you again for finding a solution to the first bug that I ever reported to the tracker!

You're welcome! I dont know why it took me so long to figure that out. In my experience with computers I learned that "resetting" or logging out/in fixes most problems.

Thanks for the fix! It also restored my achievements and stats which had been reset by the new launcher. My pets are responding to me again, too!

I see the Status of this ticket says Reopened/Unresolved, So instead of opening a new ticket I am adding to this one. This morning My Custom Skin was working fine, this afternoon it will not load and I am in the Default Skin, I am in Version 2.0.847 of the Launcher, 1.11.2 of the game. I can browse and save and upload my skin again, and I do get the "Success! Your skin has been uploaded." message, but when I click the play button and go into the game it is still the default skin.

I have same problem, change my skin and launcher say "your skin succeful change" but my skin no change, after play MC think what my skin change and press F5 my skin is the Alex and no my skin.

i had this problem too, but then i realized i changed my version of minecraft and when i did that, my account was not on that version and i was know as, "unknown" so i had to add a new account at the minecraft launcher, and log in to my real account.

I've resolved this ticket as Invalid since it's about an older version of the launcher that is no longer available.
