Might this be related to MCL-12084? Different operating systems and launcher versions, but those screen shots look the same.
Bug is technically resolved (obsolete) due to new News link for Snapshot 19w*39*a. The new Snapshot link works properly for me.
Really hate to add chat to this, but I've followed it for about two years and it's been around for six. It's among the oldest JE bugs, if not being the oldest still open, and remains unassigned. Does staff care about this minor-but-annoying bug, or is it like the mystery bowl in the back of the office fridge that no one will touch?
In other words...should I stop following this issue to resolve my false hopes when I get e-mail about it?
I don't think it would be so bad if it worked this way in all editions, but I've seen it work on console, so it just feels wrong on PC. No staff in the comments in all this time...they do know we're here, right? lol
Going on four years, eight months, since this issue was reported. Do we have any hope of this being corrected, since it's still not assigned?
...Before the date just looks backwards on 12 Oct 2024?
Probably a resource pack issue. Anything made before 13a is missing the icons from the crafting_table and inventory GUI images. Anything before 14a has the wrong icons, if they are there. The icons should be little green ones, in the original Mojang files at:
minecraft\textures\gui\container\
Most likely a duplicate of MC-115085.
This is directly related to the issue of resource packs causing blank recipe book icons in the previous snaps. The icon has been changed (size, placement and color) in 14a and resource packs need to be updated.
Uploading a sample of the top corner of textures/gui/container/inventory.png, which shows the difference.
textures/gui/container/crafting_table.png also needs the same treatment. (Not shown in screen cap.)
Version-dependent duplicate of MC-115085.
MC-114930 covers this. Vote, watch and contribute if you've got information that isn't there. As I said before, separate issues need to be tracked separately, or the mods and devs can't help us properly solve them.
Issue resolved for me, not sure about OP. User (pack creator) error! Thanks, Nathan.
Updated file:
.minecraft\resourcepacks\(varies)\assets\minecraft\textures\gui\container\inventory.png
Ahh...I am, indeed. I had assumed that this was a completely new graphic that would revert to default, if missing. It must even be my own resource pack, for me, since partial packs aren't affecting this graphic. Are you able to lead me toward the files that might cause this? I primarily edited blocks and entities...
...okay, now I remember that I changed the button color. It's in that GUI image file, isn't it? The missing icon is being rendered fully transparent.
Possibly (likely) related to issue MC-115046 but not quite the same described behavior.
Nope, same upload error in Firefox and Chrome. Not sure where I'm supposed to get tokens, but I feel like I'm at an arcade with a bunch of pennies.
EDIT: I has tokens now, I guess. My upload worked, so I removed my offsite link.
Am attempting to upload screen shots of my inventory and table, to show where the buttons may be. You've possibly got the same issue I do: There seems to be no image of the button, but the clickable area is there. In my image, the spots are highlighted in blue.
"File "temp1.png" was not uploaded
JIRA could not attach the file as there was a missing token. Please try attaching the file again."
...whut? I'll try again in another browser.

Also, "not saying," you should separate your requests into their own issues. The screen reader is a different problem from the recipe book and will need to be addressed separately by staff. It doesn't seem to be working for me either, but I'm playing single and don't really want to use the feature.
Solution confirmed. Thanks very much, Heather!
Not specifically noted here, my original and preferred model is Steve, but was switched to Alex, along with defaulting the texture.
Still affects version 2.0.806.
Should the website show the current uploaded skin after the page has been refreshed? If so, that's not working properly either.
Looks like https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCL-3427 (I don't know how issue links are normally done here, sorry.)
Try reinstalling Minecraft from a fresh download. Be sure not to delete your save game folder, if you uninstall first.
Check both the version you were playing in previously and your Forge version carefully. Forge is working fine for me with the current version. Forge doesn't load within the launcher, as far as I'm aware, so the problem shouldn't be related to that.
Glad Windows gets a smaller download, (38MB) but we may be getting the same thing. Win10x64 OS, MCL 2.0.806...at the moment. It seems like Mojang may actually be doing a lot of updates the last few days, (since introducing the new interface,) but I haven't watched the version number every single time I opened, to know if it's updating each time or after a few hours.
I've opened the launcher three times while writing this, only downloading MCL the first time. When I've come back after about half a day, I've gotten downloads each time. I wish I'd looked and written down the versions. Everybody who may have this issue, please monitor your version number carefully over the course of each load.
When riding in a car in real life under normal (not crashing) conditions, you turn with the car, despite slight inertia to the contrary, unless you - choose - to turn your head sideways to watch something. When last I played Minecraft X-box a couple months ago, the view followed the cart, as is natural. Intended or otherwise, this is strange behavior that is contrary to a smooth experience.
I like the idea of a toggle so that users who prefer the current behavior can - choose - to turn it on, just as the invert look/mouse has a toggle for those of us who've gotten used to flight-stick style controls in most any other 3D game. It's okay if Minecraft wants to be a little different, so long as we have options to reassert some normality. 😉
Mojang may have considered it part of the same issue, as removing the rail caused the cart to "go off a rail" and the cart turned.
Seems closely related, if not part of the same [coding/object/hitbox/whatever's causing this] error. We've been hoping for years for said issue to be resolved, and hopefully it's at least in the back of someone's mind among Mojang's engineers.
If MC-4057 does finally get resolved and your issue is then not fixed, then petition again for this to be reopened and the mods should oblige.
