Game takes 5-10 minutes to load to main menu on first load of each day

Steps to reproduce

  1. Boot up your computer.

  2. Double-click Minecraft.

Expected result

Minecraft loads to the main menu within a minute. It may use some time and system resources to authenticate my device and login credentials, check for updates, and download and install UI updates, but it should not appear to be stuck on unchanging screens for minutes at a time, nor should it be keeping the hard disk near 100% busy for 10 minutes straight.

Observed result

The first time Minecraft is loaded under each account on my PC each day, it takes 5-10 minutes to get to the main menu while accessing the hard drive to 100% capacity the whole time. It appears to hang for several minutes on the blank red screen and then for several minutes again at 41% on the loading screen. When it finally gets to the main menu it often shows the vanilla resource errors described at MCPE-145110.

Here is an example video of how my game loaded the first time today. This is much shorter than many first loads--it stays for about 1 minute on the red screen and 1 minute on 41%. A couple days ago it stayed for 7 minutes on the red screen and 3 minutes on 41%.

On the suggestion of another mod I deleted a bunch of data from my premium_cache folder—about 2.5 GB of world templates. The thought was that the long load could be from checking for updates or verifying ownership of the downloaded content. However, deleting all that data did not make any difference to my load times.

I found and deleted another massive pile of Minecraft data on disk. The excessively long first load of the day continues to be a problem, but I feel the huge amount of junk data should be rectified as part of addressing it. This data could have been contributing to the load times; I can't know for sure.

The folder C:\Users\owner\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\minecraftpe was consuming over 11 GB of disk space. There were many files that had not been accessed in years, going to right back to the day I installed the game. There were about a dozen copies of world saves whose purpose I cannot imagine, as you can see here:

Most of the data bloat, however, was in the CatalogScratch and CatalogCache subfolders:

I made a backup of the whole folder and then deleted it. The game recreated the folder structure and a few files (as expected), but now the whole thing is only 38 MB. The game runs fine without all the junk data.

For me it takes a minute to load for the first launch. I moved all my resource packs to the regular folder rather than the development folders, which decreased the loading time from a minute to 30 seconds. The loading times are probably because I have a lot of resource packs.

I recently upgraded to a new hard drive and had to reinstall Windows and Minecraft. As as result, I no longer have this issue and cannot confirm if it still occurs.

I FOUND A FIX FOR THIS, all you have to do is get bedrocklauncher, use that to install a previous version (make sure you check the checkbox to create a backup of your data), then once the previous version load up, switch back to the backup from the list of installed versions, then when Minecraft opens back up again then it is fixed, though once you do this you will not be able to update Minecraft through the Microsoft store unless you uninstall it and then re-install it, instead you will have to update it with the bedrocklauncher app, but when you use this method it uninstalls the current version and installs an older version, then uninstalls that older version and re-installs the current version and places back your data and fixed the issue, so you don't have to lose your data to fix the issues.

The issue seems to get worse every time you open Minecraft, but uninstalling and re-installing fixes the issue, and you can keep your data by making a backup of the com.mojang folder, then when you re-install it replace the com.mojang folder with your backup of it.

it still affects 1.20.15

Same thing for me. Here's some data and tests that I've collected. This issue also seems only to affect PCs. During startup, it stays at a black screen for most of the time and is unresponsive to key presses (Pressing F11 to enter/exit from fullscreen).

My PC Specs:

RAM: 32GB Duel Channel

Storage: 1TB Kingston SNV2S100G

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti

My Phone Specs:

Model: iPhone 12 Pro

RAM: 6GB

Storage: 128GB (76.86 Free)
Chip: A14 6-core CPU (2p 4e), 4-core GPU, 4-core neutral engine

Test Results

The timer starts when I click on the icon and stops when I'm loaded into a new world.

Initial Launch:

PC: 2 minutes, 55 seconds, 02ms

Phone: 50 seconds, 26ms

Second Launch directly after initial launch:

PC: 39 seconds, 02ms

Phone: 42 seconds, 74ms

The same test on Java to compare values with.

Initial: 56 seconds 88ms

Second: 39 seconds, 24ms

Is this still an issue for you?
