Nintendo Switch: Marketplace/Skins Don't Work

EDIT: The issue has been resolved for me, please check the comments. It seems deleting the game data, reinstalling, logging out and BACK IN to your microsoft account fixed my skins AND marketplace problems!

This issue was happening before the most recent update, but now it's all but ruined my desire to play.

My marketplace has NEVER loaded fully, ever since I got my Switch and this game. I was able to purchase skins but could never see them until I went to create a character with them, or I could see previews of the skins but not the details.

The day before version 1.18.30 was released, I was no longer able to use my skins, only the character creator. It would not allow me to equip a skin and would frequently open the side bar where you create characters every time I went to select something, a feature that I don't remember seeing before and do not see now after the update.

Speaking of, today after installing the update, things have gotten worse. Marketplace does not open at all (selecting and hitting A on marketplace from the main screen does nothing), and I cannot even edit the character I was forced to create when my skins stopped working. Both the Edit Character and Create Character buttons are grayed out completely. Screenshots for all three events are attached.

I do not get error messages, things just cease to work and it's preventing me from playing. PLEASE HELP!

I'm also experiencing this issue in Bedrock (PC). I get the following message when trying to access marketplace "Invalid session (try restarting your game)" even after restarting my game. I've also tried logging out and logging back into my account with no effect.

Also having this problem on the Switch. Clicking the Marketplace button on the splash screen makes noise, but does not do anything. I can select Play, and that goes to the next screen, but Marketplace is greyed out, and an error pops up if I try to select it - attached.

Software restart & system power cycle have not helped. I am currently attempting a software reinstall....

A fresh install (delete software & redownload from eShop) has allowed me to access the Marketplace, AND all of my character "dressing room" options load - including the thumbnail images.

The fresh install did NOT correct the awful-to-nonexistant chunk/sound loading/rendering & the game is still freezing & unplayable, but that's a different ticket.

Based on Cathy9887’s comment, I have also tried deleting and redownloading Minecraft on my Switch after encountering this issue. Initially, the issue still occurred but after restarting the game, it now seems to be fixed for me as well.

Okay let me try deleting and reinstalling. If it works I'll report back. Let's hope so!

migrated

Can confirm the same problem, I'm gonna also try reinstalling.

migrated

I tried reinstalling (since I don't have NSO right now, it's unsafe to delete fully) and it didn't work.

If you still can't change skins after 1.18.30 all you need to do is delete the software and reinstall it then after it's done downloading again sign out of your Microsoft account and sign back in and it should work.

SwordKing's suggestion was correct! I deleted and reinstalled, then signed out and signed back in. My skins are back and I'm able to equip them. Awesome! I hope this helps others on Switch with the same problem!

I can confirm that reinstalling the game (remove software, download and install from store again) resolved the issue for me too. However, as this process seems more like a workaround it should still be fixed as part of a future update.

What might be interesting for you as well: Right after reinstalling it on my switch, the game became unplayable due to continues lags/freezes, see MCPE-154110.

Oh no, I haven't had a chance to play for an extended amount of time, but judging from all the comments on that other report, I'm guessing it will happen to me. I wonder why they always push out updates on the same day Nintendo does, and if that has to do with all the issues.

I can also agree that there should be a proper fix for this, as I’m still having invalid session errors occasionally despite reinstalling the game. After reinstalling, it will actually fix itself when I close the game but it’s a pain to keep having to open and close it, especially on top of the lag/loading issues this update has also seemed to have caused.

I also have this problem after updating to 1.18.30. Clicking on the marketplace just makes a click sound and does not enter the marketplace. Having to uninstall and reinstall seems a bit extreme to do. The kiddos are also screaming that the game is “buggy” now meaning it’s lagging. Please advise

I have the same Probelm ):

I had the same problem which started after the latest update last week. I was unable to even click on the Marketplace button & the options for editing skins were totally greyed out & not clickable. Per the comments here, I deleted the game from my Switch OLED & then re-downloaded & installed (I had the download version of the game). It worked perfectly after that & the issue was resolved. The same issue was also present on my Switch Lite (using a game card version of the game. I performed the same delete game operation & then put in the gamecard & did the update software. Again, this solved the problem. Now, all is working well & the Marketplace is actually loading fully & much quicker than it ever has. A note for anyone scared to delete the game - deleting the software won't mess with your save data. Your saved worlds should still be there when you re-install.

Guess I'm not alone.

EDIT: It turns out a redownload is all it needed.

migrated

How do you redownload/reinstall the game without losing your worlds?

migrated

I checked for corrupted data, and the redownload worked essentially as an archive.

migrated

same problem for me on 1.19.11 on switch
however, archiving the game and re-downloading only fixed the problem for one session, so every time i close the game I have to archive the game again and download it again

the error message is "invalid session (try restarting your game)"

migrated

Also having the same issue, re-downloading fixes it for the current session only... please check this as this is not fixed

migrated

I have the same problem since th. 1.19.11 and still I'm the 1.19.20, and I don't know what the heck to do

migrated

@Riley, can you confirm this is actually fixed or do you have to do it on every session also?

If not, did you just redownloaded the game, logged out and in? For me this fixes it only for one session.

Thanks

It still does not work.  No wait, I'll correct it: IT HAS NEVER WORKED.  It's so annoying.

migrated

This is not fixed, reopen the ticket please

I've had this issue for months now. Reinstalling sometimes fixes it for the current session only but I'm not waiting 30min to reinstall the game every time I wanna play. Sometimes I'm lucky and it'll load on its own but it's complete chance. Please reopen this. It's not fixed, we just get lucky sometimes.

I can reliably reproduce this and reliably avoid it with v1.19.31 on Nintendo Switch. To avoid it, just let the game sit on the title screen for a minute or two before you attempt to access the Marketplace or Dressing Room.

Just waiting until your Microsoft Account is logged in is not long enough; you must let it sit for a minute or so after that. I haven’t measured the exact duration, and I suspect but am not at all certain that it will vary based on internet speed; I suspect the wait is required for a data download to finish. But I could be wrong.
