Anytime I play, the game is consistently freezing. If I’m Omaha t for 10 minutes, it will freeze 2-3 times. I have looked online and tried the possible bug fixes yet nothing seems to work. I have tried logging out of my Microsoft account and also rebooting the entire switch. I’m not sure what else to do at this point.

My game freezes more than its playable. From the moment my world first comes on screen to the first time I get sound & (mostly) rendered chunks, its 2 minutes & 16 seconds (just timed it). I will then get 30 seconds of normal(ish) gameolay, but then it freezes for 20-30+ seconds. From that point on, it literally gives me 1 or 2 seconds of play and then freezes for ~30+ seconds again. I have to be hovered & waitimg over the + button in order to properly logout.
Software restarts & console power cycle did not help. I did a fresh install (delete software & redownload from eShop), and while that fixed the Marketplace issue I wasn't having, it did not change the gameplay issues at all.
Attaching photos of what was rendered after the 2+ minutes...
EDIT: adding that the save file is 140mb
Just to rule out wifi/router/internet, took console completely off network & attempted offline play, but the same things happened.
I have the same issue. The game is unplayable.
the game freezes every few seconds while walking around. Also freezes when opening chests, using workstations.
I lowered the rendered chunks setting, turned off Fancy Graphins, beautiful skies, fancy leaves, etc. nothing helped.
I’m having the same issue since yesterday after the update. I already restarted the switch and everything online I saw to try to fix the issue but nothing it’s unplayable. It freezes when the chest in the corner saves and when I try to acess chests and it workstations. Don’t know what else to do.
I have the same issue and tried uploading my local world to realms plus to see if the continuous lag appeared there, too. Both the local copy and the one on realms plus freeze over and over, with the periods of the game being frozen lasting more than 30 seconds and the “playable” time being not more than 5 seconds.
This makes the game literally, not just metaphorically unplayable. Burned three of my precious Totems of Undying during the lagging periods when the game unfroze and all of the skelly’s arrows being shot in the lagging period hit me all at once.
[Edited due to autocorrect messing up a wee bit of my comment]
Same issue here. This started happening with the new update yesterday. The game is nearly unplayable now due to how frequently it freezes. This needs to be fixed as soon as possible.
Edit: I want to also add that I've since tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, clearing the Switch cache (which helped with problems previously), and playing offline / in airplane mode. None of this seemed to help with the constant freezing.
Same with my game too. I purchased minecraft 1 week ago, i don't have a big data world. (Still learning the game). After the new update that i received yesterday, i lag so much! In every autosave the game is freezing. I am so frustrated and annoying with this update. I tried to delete save data from switch, delete game and redownload it. I tried to disable auto cloud upload and multiplayer mode from my save but nothing works.. I can't play it, it's freezing everytime that it's autosave. I hope for a solution as soon as possible.
I have timed this on the switch, when I connect to a friend’s game, their switch freezes after 10 mins, then kicks me out.
i can rejoin but it will freeze and kick me out another 10 minutes later.
This has only happened since the 1.18.30 update, it was very stable before.
Same here. Since 1.18.30 it seems like every 10 minutes or so the game just freezes for 30-45 seconds. I'd say it seems related to Autosave but MCPE-43871 lol "resolved". I think my game spends less time NOT auto-saving than saving!
Same issue here. I agree with Owen approx every 10 minutes it freezes 30-45 seconds. Definitely correlated with autosave. I've noticed more general lag than usual as well e.g. initial world loading, traveling between dimensions, chunk loading, settings UI launch, and occasionally block updates e.g. placing a block takes a couple of seconds to render after the block is placed.
Switch, 1.18.30, local single player, Simulation 4, Render 12, survival
I experience the same/similar issue since 1.18.30. The game is unplayable, as it lags/freezes continuously for several seconds, then kind of catches up the lost simulation time (e.g., animals "jump" certain distances) and is playable for like 2 seconds, but then freezes again — and this again and again.
What might be interesting: I reinstalled the game. Before this, I could basically play but had longer freeze times/lags when autosaving (MCPE-40976) and the marketplace did not work ([MCPE-154120]). The reinstall solved the marketplace issue, but now I have those continuous lags.
I'm having the same issue. Since the update, the game is basically unplayable! My daughter tried to play yesterday, literally moved one block & the game crashed & had to be shut down. This happened at least 10 times before we gave up.
On splitscreen coop .. the game freezes every few seconds for a couple of seconds. We often play with splitscreen on the tv but it is more than unplayable with this update.
On the local network its a bit better than on splitscreen but as already stated there are the freezes on save on opening chests and so on ...
I’m also having some issues after the update, but not to the point my game is unplayable. It has frozen briefly a few times, and normally this is correlated with the game Auto-saving so I think people are right in suggesting their might be a link. I’ve also noticed my game seems to Auto-Save and then do it again after like 10 seconds, which it probably shouldn’t be doing, so that might be a problem as well. The only other issues I’ve really noticed are sometimes mobs will just spawn suddenly, be frozen for a second and then break apart and act normal. There was also some issues with chunks loading whilst I was flying around in creative, but that happened a lot before the update too. It’s also taking longer to load the game and my worlds than usual, but I’m not sure if it’s struggling to load the game because of this, or the Marketplace issues.
Same here. An existing world that was working fine before the update now consistently freezes within seconds after launching. Have to quit game with home button. Eventually says closed due to error. Unplayable. Marketplace also inaccessible. At one point after upgrade there was a message “invalid session”. Have tried logging out of Microsoft account etc. Nothing works.
(update) based on other comments we waited out the freeze and eventually could move again. But as others report, it freezes again every few minutes, presumably at auto save.
This same experience I am having on XBOX. You can move a little but cannot interact before the game freezes/crashes.
I'm having the same problem in PC, especially when I get close to the end portal coordinates, I can't pass the nether portal to this coordinates without the game crash
Reinstalling the game will correct the Marketplace/Invalid Session issue, but not the freezing. :-/
Tried my usual world today.. still freezes.
Created a brand new world of the same seed, and all was perfect. No freezing, no bizarre lag.
I then created a copy of my original world (hoping maybe a "fresh start" of an existing world would make a difference... but it didn't.
Single player
Nintendo Switch
(Not sure what other info would be helpful for the techs...)
Playing creative single player on Switch and as said by others, my world worked perfectly fine until the update. Now I get maybe 10 minutes of playing time before autosave kicks in and freezes my entire game for 30 seconds.
I also am having the same issues as above, game is not unplayable on the Mario Mashup version (Switch).
If I create a brand new map it appears to work alright, but my existing game locks up for ~30 seconds every time the auto save kicks in and it is laggy in between then too. Very frustrating.
I'm not sure what Mojangs history is on fixing bugs like this but I have one very disappointed 6 year old right now (and to be honest a more disappointed adult lol)
I have also restarted my game. Copied the world and tried it (same result). Logged out and in and still have the same issues. I traveled far away from my existing world and also outside of the Mario prebuilt world and it still has the same problems. I'm happy to add any more details that are helpful.
Same issue here. Game is basically unplayable as it stands. Opening chests, trying to cycle through the hotbar quickly, and autosave all cause lag and/or freezing for 30+ seconds, sometimes as long as two minutes. And this occurs at least every ten minutes, sometimes within two or three minutes of each other.
playable only when not auto saving, which happens a lot apparently. freezes for about a minuet or so, sometimes i have to press the home button then go back into the game without closing it completely.
Is there an update or anything on this? Or... is work being done with it? Just trying to decide what to tell my kids - sit tight, it'll get fixed.. or, just start a fresh new world, the old one is permanently broken. 🙂
Either way, we appreciate you all & everything you do to make this game what it is!! <3
Ive had a similar issue. After the 1.18.30 update my game would freeze every autosave. Eventually, it would crash and now I can't generate that specific world at all. It would load slightly and then crash, saying, "The software was closed because an error occurred". I've tried to reinstall the game and make copies of my world. These did not fix the issue. I've tried making new worlds and they work just fine. I've checked for corrupted data but my switch says there is none. I don't use the online features, i'm playing in single player mode.
I have about a 59.7 MB world.
The first time it crashed my game went up to 69 MB.
The second time it crashed it went down to 59 mbMB
Third time it went to 49MB
And the fourth time it went up to 170MB then back down to 59MB, then I couldn't get back on at all
After the last crash that wouldn't let me back on, the date for "last played" was the next day. One day in the future. (said 4-21-22, but the date was 4-20-22)
I have also been suffering from the same bug, hopefully its patched soon. But just to make sure my world wasn't corrupted I deleted the data and redownloaded it from the cloud (pre- 1.18.30).
I have been having the same issue on my Switch as well as PS4. The newest Update seems to have caused more issues than it fixed I haven’t had any issues before the update.
Having the same issue on my switch, the game freezes for 10-30 sec and any1 connected to the World on lan is disconnected. This happen every 5 mins or so making the game COMPLETLY UNPLAYABLE atm on a Switch..
I also have the same problem, just like you, I play on nintendo switch and the play screen usually freezes very often, the worst of all is that sometimes the game continues to run but I can't do anything, I've died several times and I have lost many valuable things because of that, I thought that maybe my world was very heavy and that is why I was doing badly but since I updated to 1.18.30 it started to go very badly in my world, even a world that I was useless, I was already very advanced there, when I got into the world it took me out of the game and I got an error 😞
I am here for the same reason as 13Fridays. I created an account here so I can say that I can't play Minecraft at all. It won't work on switch. It won't work on Realms. It won't work on Ps4. I have been looking around and it seems like there are already a dozen or more duplicates of this issue. It seems to me like 1.18.30 broke Minecraft. Maybe they take out the 64 bit world seeds? See if that helps? Idk I just miss my world 😞 Please Hurry Mojang!!!
I am playing on mobile the game is freezing all 2-3 sec no matter if it is in a singelplayerworld, on a server or on startscreen. In 1.18.30 the game is lagging so much, ist unplayable!
Sorry if my english is too bad.
Some people have suggested that new worlds are slightly more functional, which I thought was interesting considering I had minor issues on my world that I made after the update and was the only one I had played on so far. So, for science sake I booted up one of my worlds from before the update and it was much worse. Still not quite the game breaking level, but freezes, particularly when auto-saving lasted minutes compared to seconds and much more frequently. Other issues I had before in the new world continued. I have also noticed some lag in interactions, like a creeper exploded and the sound didn’t play immediately. There’s also some bad issues with chunks loading in creative when flying around, whilst first joining the game, or after respawning I have noticed, and these issues are all really frustrated. Hopefully they fix it or at least let us know what is going on soon seeing as so many people are having this problem and it’s making the game harder to play and unplayable completely in cases.
Having issues now that my game won’t even load. It says software closed due to error. I have tried restarting the system and checked for corrupted data and still having the same issue.
For who is getting trouble opening the worlds (app closes with error), maybe usefull check this:
MCPE-154306
Same issue here, game is unplayable on the switch now. Was fine for about 20 minutes and now I’m stuck in a loop of rebooting the game, playing for not even a minute or two for the game to crash and getting the software closed due to error. At first I thought it was a bug with using my ender chest as the first 3 times it had happened it was trying to access the chest so I stopped trying to access the chest and it is still crashing.
my switch and my sons switch is the exact same since the update. It keeps crashing and we cant access the market place either.
Same issue over here, it's impossible to play after the update, it get a little better when I let the lever of blocks discovered and the angle of vision, but still freezes...
Can confirm. Lags/stalls for 20-30s every couple minutes.
Seems to be correlated with both autosaves and opening chests. But not exclusive to either.
There seem to also be little micro-stalls that happen a lot more frequently, i.e. normal movement has become intermittently choppy. I'm not sure if these are the same thing, of if I've just become hypersensitive.
Playing locally, single-player, Nintendo Switch.
Can also confirm that when you get two skeletons shooting at you for 20s, you wake up dead, but that's neither here nor there. Getting periodically paralyzed makes doing everything dangerous.
Have observed this issue on previous versions and it has resulted in avatar death because mobs can sometimes attack the player character or the player character will suffocate if underwater or in a nether portal when the autosave initiates. [Lost a set of enchanted netherite armor to this one coming through a portal when it froze and character died inbetween.]
It was resolved for a time, but I started noticing occasional freezes again on 1.18.12 with game worlds whose save files were in excess of 80MB.
With 1.18.30 it is more frequent.
When is Mojang going to acknowledge this issue!?
[media]?
Game is unplayable on Switch. Give us an update already!!!
The same happens to me, mostly while in the process of saving. It's getting really annoying doing anything and it starts freezing.
While freezing or lagging I have found you can still also be attacked and then suddenly you are dead as soon as the lag ends from multiple enemy attacks in succession.. game has become unplayable. Such a shame. Mojang needs to acknowledge but probably won't until they have a fix..
This seems to be happening more often than not. My game freezes for up to 5 minutes and then once unfrozen it just runs through the cycle of freezing and unfreezing. My game seems to have major lag and blocks will not load it if I’m travelling making that the game completely unplayable. I can’t move and I can’t mine any blocks.
Bonjour,
Merci

Hello,
I am following the bug encountered by any owner of Minecraft on Switch (normal and Lite, not tested on OLed) for there 1.18.30
The game freezes after 15 min at the time of the automatic save, then regularly intermittently (from a few seconds to 5 minutes later) sometimes lasting for long bug periods (several tens of seconds).
In addition, the refresh rate of the decorations is abnormal, having to wait a few seconds for the decorations to set up whereas before 1.18.30, no problem (except in the event of a high density of monsters).
I noticed that the switch responded correctly, except that the game during its autosave created a freeze.
No problem when I'm invited (which is a paradox) to freeze on a third party (I don't play multiplayer games on the servers, I can't say).
I also had a display bug in the store (no skin or plugin that displayed a circle to search for the image), which I solved by reinstalling the game (weird as I didn't touch the files, since they are not accessible).
Thank you
I also have a comment (this isn't translated) This happens primarily when I do commands and generate chunks (although chunk generation lag has been around awhile but has worsened though the coming updates). Mojang, please fix this as this was the 2nd update I came to when I migrated to the switch. At least say you've noticed this bug.
I’m having this issue to in a major way. I feel like it’s more prominent when I move towards the loaded chunk that contains my villagers and storage area. When I move outwards and that chunk isn’t loaded, the freezing seems to occur just a bit less often. Every thirty seconds the game will freeze for 30 seconds or more and is completely unplayable. I’ve tried redownloadinh the software, turning down the rendering, checking for corrupt data, turning off auto cloud back up. Nothing works.
Edit: my world is upwards of 200mb. I started a brand new world and the freezing/crashing was minimal.
My son was playing on our Switch today, and had no troubles. He is in a new/small world of about 6 MB, whereas mine where I was having the worst problems is >150 MB.
I loaded up my big world again afterwards, and it still has the freezing/stalling problem. I tried an old save world of around 80 MB, testing for size, and that also has the problem.
Then I played about 15 minutes, without any lockups, on a brand-new world. (3 MB or so). I'm going to put in some more time tonight, but at least preliminarily it appears to have to do with the size of the save file.
Don't know if it matters, but my larger, old worlds were started just at the end of 1.17, so they have some old chunks in them. I'll see if I can find a small, old save file just to test this variable.
@hex
It definitely has to do with file size. I started a new world yesterday and everything worked fine until the save file got around 15MB. Now I have the same freezing issues just shorter time periods than my 100MB world.
@hexagon5un @MumblyP
This is clearly directly related, and seems to be 100% consistent across the board in every report I've seen here, as well as around Twitter and numerous reports of the problem on other sites. 15-20 mb isn't a massive save, so these aren't "edge cases" by any means.
Does the testing team not load larger saves? I still don't understand how they missed something that's so blatantly reproducible.
So this fault has now progressed further on my Minecraft. The game is now unplayable. I go through the usual loading screens to select my world, as soon as it’s loaded it starts to crash. I lose the ability to look in my inventory and chests no longer load when opened. The game then freezes and a “the software was closed because an error occurred” message appears. I can not get into Minecraft for any space of time.
Same! On my survival world there are times where I load up the world (after it crashes mind you) and it does the save thing and freezes my game! WHAT THE HECK IS THERE TO SAVE I JUST LOADED INTO THE WORLD!
I have had a very similar issue on my survival game on the Switch. Although mine seems to be gradually getting worse. What started out as an occasional freeze, which righted itself in a few seconds, has now become a near immediate complete freeze/crash which only ends by closing the game.
I'm having the same issue. Almost every time it autosaves it freezes for 30 to 45 seconds. If someone is playing with me remotely it kicks them out.
Thank you for your patience while we continue to look into this issue. Please be assured we are actively looking into a solution and hope to have the issue addressed as soon as possible.
If you wish to show your interest in this bug report, please add a vote and try to avoid adding any additional "me too" comments, which may be removed so that we can focus on information relevant to the bug.

Obviously, if I am posting here I am having the same issue - however I have a few additional observations that I don't see in the existing comments. The freezing issue appears to be significantly worse when playing within rendering distance of my base (possibly because of the villagers), OR within rendering distance hostile mobs that contain more than 1 character. Attempting to play within my village base is impossible. The game freezes every 5-10 seconds. If I can manage to get out into the surrounding forest (during the day) the game will freeze occasionally, but not nearly as frequently as within areas with mobs or redstone. At night if I come across a mob the game will screen freeze, however the game sequence is continuing to play out. If the game freezes at night it is guaranteed the next screen I will see, when it un freezes, will be a "you died - respawn screen". The game appears to be continuing to playout (with the mobs killing the user) without the ability for the user to provide inputs.
My issue does not appear to be tied to the auto save functionality. It happens too frequently.
I agree with these additions, the game lag/freezing (not consol) is much worse near my home base (in a village completely torched up). I’ve tried killing off some of the villager's and animals yet the issue still persists. Also a few chunks a way From my home base I have a 1 floor mob spawner farm and the lag there is also incredible, despite the entire cave system being torched up.
Play only seems to run smoothly when either running or walking in a world. However, anytime I attempt to interact with something around me (i.e. feeding animals, trading with villagers, picking produce), the game completely freezes. This was occurring on two of my existing worlds and trying to load either leads to a software crash.
I began a new world three days ago and it worked well for the first two until it began to behave in the same way as my prior worlds. The new world I created is less than 30mb at this point and the entire game will crash if I attempt to interact with the environment.
The game will no longer* close successfully. I save my game, exit, and then close it on the home screen. However, my switch will freeze as it tries to close out the game and I wind up receiving an error code.
Switch version completely unplayable. Freezes every time it attempts to autosave. If in an area that has lots of entities, like my base, gave freezes completely. Trying to play splitscreen with my family is also now impossible. Turn render distance down fully, and turned off all settings i could for visuals, but this didnt help. Will be forced to shelve minecraft until this is fixed.
I play on PC, and I'm having the same issue, the game freeze every 10 seconds, but just in overworld, in nether don't freeze and crash
Whenever the game is AUTOSAVING the game freezes and Multiplayer from Android device gets disconnected.
In NS, when I die in the game it never respawn. Needed to restart the whole game to be respawned.
Sometimes the name tag of the NS player is in mid body, not over the head.
Already redownloaded the game many times and its still happening.
Tested with different world save sizes, and everything is fine at 8 MB, but basically unplayable beyond 80 MB.
Last night, I went exploring and when I had the first real freeze (>20 sec of paralysis) the game save size was at 12.1 MB.
The smaller worlds are not consistently horrible – you can play for 30 min without a lockup, whereas > 100 MB, it happens every couple minutes or even more frequently. My 160 MB world is out literally more than it's in – the events are more frequent and last longer. It seems to be probablistic, and strongly increasing in save file size.
If you switch out to the Switch home screen, everything is running as usual. It doesn't appear to be that the console is OOM.
Switch, single player, local.
Since the game has been essentially broken for all Switch players with large worlds, it would be nice to have had an emergency rollback. As of now, those players are simply unable to play for the last week. This isn't a small glitch, but rather completely ruins the game experience.
I noticed this problem on my own system too. It happens a lot more often when I unpause the game after leaving it paused for a long time. Apart from that I commonly run into a freeze when the game regularly autosaves
My game freezes at random times, it gets more consistent and longer. I thought it was because my world just had a large file size, 136.3 MB - 145.3 MB it dances in between those. It also seems to occur for me when people are joining and it happens more often the more people are on my world. once it happened so much I couldn't even move as it froze up right after it unfroze.
In some cases I've nearly died and lost all my items from things such as drowning during the freezes, or lava while debris mining, this is a bug that could seriously damage the player base on switch or any other affect platforms, in some cases my world isn't even playable due to the freezing, as mentioned above and when I downloaded the update, it was fine for a few weeks, but started happening last week.
Please add an option to disable autosave. This has always been a problem for the last year or two I've played on the Switch, but is far more extreme in this version of the game. This only occurs during autosave (even though it autosaves more frequently in this version), and I would highly highly recommend to add an option to disable autosave. 99% of lag comes whenever the game autosaves, and makes it unplayable for 30 seconds where I have died multiple times due to that lag.
I first reported on this issue right after the update. Subsequently I have found that the freezing during auto saves has decreased significantly- I'm not sure if it is a decrease in autosaves, or it does not catch as often. The issue is consistent however in all dimensions (overworld, end, nether). The disconnect from the marketplace still occurs with invalid session still noted. I have not redownloaded the Minecraft program, which some have suggested corrects the marketplace issue. I have not noticed any system updates or changes to my switch since the 1.18.3 update.
Originally posted on a different job about render dragon:142934
I am experiencing this problem on the Nintendo Switch. I am playing split-screen on a local world with the world owner (am player 2) but this also happens when the world owner comes close to my house with nobody else logged in.
I logged in, post-update, in my house that contains: 40 villagers, 20 or so fish, 1 cat and 1 dog, a bunch of about 20 or so other animals like sheep horses and chickens, 8 boats, 4 iron golems, 9 hoppers, 11+ double chests, with 11 full beehives nearby as well as a small farm (wheat, carrots, pumpkin/melon etc), + 15 bamboo and over 60 sugar canes. Also quite a few vines on the walls.
This whole setup was working fine before the update, only getting choppy when more than one player was in my house, or I was using the hoppers. It also got pretty bad that one time where I bred hundreds of chickens, yet it still never got as bad as it did after 1.18.30:
When logged in, the game froze for 1m10s to 1m30s at a time (timed it with a stopwatch), with it unfreezing for only 1-5s at a time.
During this time the music was mostly playing fine throughout.
Here's what I did to be able to play again:
From the world owner account, which wasn't affected as long as I wasn't logged in, I reduced render distance to the minimum of 5 chunks instead of the default 12, and antialiasing to 1 (from 2).
On my account, painstakingly got to the underground tunnel connecting my house to the other houses on the world and escaped. It took like 20 minutes of the game being mostly frozen. Once I was out of the danger zone I could move normally.
Crept back closer and leashed the iron golems out of their boat at the front of the house, then took them somewhere else. They still made the game pause briefly around them every few seconds until they were dead, even when led in the middle of nowhere.
Crept back and mined all the boats.
I still cannot get close to the house, although I can get closer than before.
From the back of the nearby house, here's what I could see still rendering jerkily in my house, even as the walls weren't showing:
The villagers
The tropical fish
The bees
A boat (in my house that must be in the floor somewhere?)
The chests
The other animals, too.
The frame rate also dropped when the nearby farm came into view.
It looks like it's processing entities much further away than what it used to? Definitely further than it's rendering the walls around them.
If the patch notes are anything to go by, they also process more often.
Iron golems, who are permanently hunting for nearby entities, are definitely affecting the framerate.
Additionally, saving freezes the game for a few seconds every time (5-10s) It used to stop block updates for that time, but you could still move around. Now it just freezes the screen/controls althogether, although the game still proceeds: A person underwater could be dead by the time control resumes
UPDATE:
I tried the following:
Walking backwards towards my house, to see if it was a rendering issue. I got to the animal pen up front without freezes but then it loaded the house chunk? And started freezing terribly.
Reducing the settings even further, culling all video options to the bare minimum, then returned to the house, underground route, looking straight down. It started freezing when the house chunk loaded, to the same rate as before.
Going in the house anyway, with it taking ages. Then the freezing pretty much stopped because it was night time, during which both villagers and bees stop processing. It then only froze occasionally for 10-20 seconds at a time with decent blocks of playing.
In the village, a lot of my villagers had gone and I had a few without beds. A side effect of the reduced render distance and loading some of the village but not all of it, so villagers sleeping and working in different chunks are affected. Cats now spawn underground in the village when they didn't use to, compounding the processing problem. I removed all the decorative vines in case it helped.
The intense freezing resumed when all the villagers/bees woke up.
For us, it happens intermittently, except it always freezes (with music still playing) every time the game autosaves.
Was playing with my son on his switch with me on my cpu the World was on the switch thou. We have a rather big world with a base being a small village with like 40 plus villagers and other entities, world size about 60 mb. I managed to upload our world from the switch to realms after buying a month of realm time and I can log in to our world from my cpu without issues now. But only from my cpu the switch still freezes alot if not as much as when the World was on the switch itself. Atleast it doesnt seem to
Why was this changed to RESOLVED? It has NOT been resolved. The big is still very much present, and there is no pending update for the software on my Switch. You have absolutely NOT FIXED this bug. Item is not resolved.
This thread is for the switch, the issue has not been resolved please re-open. 1.18.30 is still the only version available for the switch
"A new update is available for Minecraft that addresses some issues that have occurred since the release of 1.18.30. The update is available now on Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, and Android devices, and will be made available on all other supported platforms in the coming days. "

Switch will also be updated soon as stated above. So pleased wait .. Just like me 😅
The process for pushing updates to the Switch takes much longer than on other systems thanks to Nintendo's lengthy approval process.
Be patient.
Could we please have a way to track what "coming days" means. I disagree that the issue is "resolved" as it is yet to be solved for all platforms. There should still be a way for "other platform" users to track when the patch is available for them. I am not asking for the fix "faster" as i understand development takes time, just a way to track when it is available for our user base.
I started a new world and it started doing the same thing. I play multiplayer and it kicks out the other player right away and if we are able to connect it just freezes. When I play. Single player freezes as well. I have a different world and it won’t let us connect at all it says software closed due to error.
Just looked at the Minecraft 1.18.31 thing, and I am kinda confused. Apparently literally all the platforms but the switch will be getting the update. The switch suffers the most from these bugs. I asked my friends who play on the other platforms and they said the bugs were not as bad. Shouldn't they fix the switch first because it's the buggiest? Or do they focus on the other versions because it suffers the least?
i think someone brought that up - they should be adding it to the switch, but since mojang has to work with nintendo, it takes a little longer to release updates. the update should come soon hopefully, since i’m having this problem too.
Yeah, like other people have said currently the update is available everywhere except IOS and the Switch, because Apple and Nintendo have to approve it first. So the update will be coming, we just have to wait a little bit longer to receive it, and whilst it’s frustrating as again like people have said, the Switch was generally having the worst issues, I’m just glad that they’ve finally found a solution and that the update should hopefully be out for us within the next few days
Just checked for an update on my Switch and have been able to install it so looks like it’s out now!
I’ve installed the update as well and it seems the freezing is still there and just as bad, at least for me. I guess it’s back to waiting another week to see if they fix something next time.
For me it’s certainly been better but not perfect. It still freezes auto saving and loading the world/chunks can still be slow on occasion. From the looks of it so far, it’s at least more playable for me now than it was before.
the problem hasn’t been fixed for me either, it’s just as bad, although maybe the lag doesn’t last quite as long.
honestly this is a bit ridiculous. i’ve updated the game and it’s still freezing. it takes forever for worlds to load in once you join and you’re sitting in dead silence while the game progresses. you can move & interact with blocks around you, but your hotbar doesn’t load in at all until after the game freezes & seemingly catches up. it feels like it’s freezing even more frequently than it did before, but at shorter intervals. upon closing out of the game and restarting the console, the game performs only slightly better and freezes a little less. this issue is not resolved and should not be marked as such.
at least there’s less lag when opening chests.
Yeah this issue isn't resolved for Switch users. While the lag is a little less frequent, trying to play is still beyond frustrating and I honestly don't think I'll play again until they ACTUALLY fix it. Someone needs to reopen this bug.
Just added a screen video i took of play five minutes after the upload. Using the Super Mario pack, but I have disabled it before and it did not cause issues, pre and post update. As you can see in the video, the game is still freezing, breaking blocks updates are not updating correctly. Issue is NOT FIXED MOJANG!!
EDIT: Right after I finished taking this screen recording, the game froze indefinitely : )
[media]
I just recently updated to 1.18.31 and the issue with freezing is still present. Frequency for me is once per Minecraft day, and almost always during the autosave.
World details:
Survival, easy difficulty, 39 MB.
Variables:
Issue occurs just as frequent when another user in my household joins me (split screen)
Closing software / restarting the hardware did not change the frequency
Just updated to 1.18.31 on Switch ... logged into our current world (22MB) and tooled around for a little bit.
Still froze every autosave, but it was shorter and not AS debilitating. However, it is definitely NOT fixed. There were a couple of minor lag issues ... fell off a small drop, but damage animation and sound took a moment to trigger.
Hopefully we can get a real fix soon.
Just updated to 1.18.31 and it's the same.
Freezes every autosave for 30-45 seconds and the chunks still loads for long time, it's the same that before
Can also confirm freezing during autosave on 1.18.31.
Tested on two different switches, one with a physical copy and the other digital.
Can also confirm that this has not been resolved with the new patch in Switch. If anything, the freezes are now longer than before on my larger world (~300mb).
Can confirm not fixed on Nintendo Switch.
Updated to 1.18.31 manually.
Started playing in my ~170 MB main world at 9:34. It went OK for three minutes, then locked up for 30s. Then I could more for ~5 sec before it locked up again for around a minute, followed by another minute and a half, before I had enough time to get my character back inside and post this.
I was playing about 10 min. elapsed, of which it was frozen for about 4 min.
I didn't bother testing it out on smaller worlds, because this behavior is exactly the same as in 1.18.30.
Mojang folks, are you testing on Switch with a large enough game save? I don't know how to get the worlds off of a Switch to send to you, but if there's a way, I'd volunteer.
Is there some logging level we can turn on to provide helpful feedback?
Upgraded to 1.18.31 with high expectations.
Definitely still freezing during auto saves. Doesn’t seem to be happening quite as much, but it certainly is still very frustrating to play.
I have 3 worlds, all of which are pretty small. The largest is about 50MB and the freezing harkens most frequently and for longer times with this world than any of the others. The smallest is less than 10MB and when it freezes, it only does so for 2-5 seconds or so.
We have a 5 MB world in creative mode, version 1.18.31. We have done a restart of the nintendo switch. When starting minecraft, the terrain partially builds, then freezes. About a minute later, it unfreezes for about 2 seconds (allowing more terrain to be built) after which it freezes again for a minute. Totally unplayable.
Given the small size of our world, I would think the issue is not size related.
As every switch player has experienced & described here, a huge portion of this problem is in the autosave. The switch, if not the other devices, most definitely needs an interval setting for autosaving, much like the legacy console.
Other than that, loading a world & the audio lag that follows is not as bad compared to 1.18.30 (I save on the same spot/block every time next to my pets because of the despawn bug paranoia), but is still noticeably slow.
Have installed 1.18.31 on my Switch to no avail. Most of the worlds I’ve been trying to play are between 1.4 - 40 MB (I’m not even trying to get into my 285MB world) but they’re all freezing immediately after loading. I can’t play long enough to say how the auto save is affecting it at this point
An apparent new issue (or maybe I’m only just noticing) is that all of the save files I opened today have save dates of tomorrow. This is not my Switch’s date code, I checked.
[media][media]
I’ve had the exact same issue + the added bonus that anytime someone tries to play in my world with me and the autosave freeze happens, they get kicked—multiple people have tested this to make sure it wasn’t a fluke with the first person and it is not, in fact, a fluke. I installed the latest update this evening and the problem is worse than ever.
Pretty sure this whole thing is mob related.
Normally while building I keep it on peaceful because I can't be bothered to do the lighting for things until last so I usually only set it to have mobs when exploring or AFKing.
While building the last few day I noticed world loading and saving causing freezes (some with sound, some without) every now and again but it wasn't terribly bad. Usually once for maybe 20 seconds while saving or every 15 minutes or so regardless of save status.
However, I went to my slime farm just now which obviously needs monsters on and I decided to quickly farm some Glow Lichen while letting some slime build up. After starting the dispenser for Bone Meal I quickly did a few tests to make sure it worked the way I expected and it went quick and easy, then I set the game to hard to turn on mobs.
Immediately everything started lagging. Freezes every few seconds and even the tick speed itself must've been affected because the dispenser, growth, removal, and picking up of the Glow Lichen instead of happening quickly like the quick test prior to turning on hostiles was suddenly going at one action every two seconds-ish.
Back to peaceful (after it finally stopped being frozen for like 90 seconds when I went to do it) and it all went back to normal.
I've now checked since and it does this on all difficulties so I'm left to assume it's just mobs or even entities in general since building on peaceful there obviously weren't that many mobs around while I was building, thus the lesser instance of freezing but turn hostile mobs on and you're getting nowhere fast.
Hello, sorry if this doesn't count as new information or is chatter. Just wanted to add that the new patch has not fixed my game in the Switch. It still takes a very long time for the game to open, render anything local, or open chests/doors etc. I did manage to eventually walk around for a while, which I haven't been able to do at all for a few weeks. But within 5mins it froze for around 30 seconds. The longer I played, the more frequently it froze and for longer until again it has become completely unplayable. Not sure if people on other platforms has worked? But definitely doesn't seem to have fixed the issue in the Switch
Yeah, this ticket is already reopenend and the version 1.18.31 is marked as affected version as it didn't solve our problem. As i don't have more information as any other player, I'm hoping that they will find it soon.
Just like everybody else. Issue is still present on my world (350.6mb). I don’t see no improvement from this new patch. Lag is still at the same level, freezing is still happening constantly and chucks do not load in
The 1.18.31 update actually made the problem 10x worse, I was at least able to still play through the freezing on LAN but now for a few seconds of runtime it freezes for 2-3 minutes so the game is totally unplayable until fixed now.
I see someone has commented that this is mob related, but for me it is not. I’ve had the game on peaceful so I could mine in the nether and the autosave freeze and kicking whoever joins still happens even with no mobs around me.
Yes, it happens then too, but it gets worse when you turn them on. Keep in mind things like animals, villagers, and piglins are still mobs and exist in peaceful. I was pointing out that it must be mob related because turning hostiles on makes it worse.
Reading and understanding is recommended before trying to argue the points made.
Also, to add to the issue in general, I've been doing testing with some drop entities as well while fixing/adding to a build and with a nearby farm.
So far, it seems like if one entity drops and I'm not there to pick it up as it happens, that there's about a 10% chance that another drop moving (as in, both are now moving through the air at the same time) will cause another freeze. Same for if water starts moving them.
Is it something to do with the logic behind the movement of entities/mobs maybe? That would make sense with why turning mobs up wouldn't help.
It seems to be related to ANYTHING that can trigger a save, whether it's a mob or otherwise. It seems to be stuck on a repeating pattern of 20-30 seconds of stuttery gameplay, then 60-120 seconds of saving.
Also, now that I can at least get the thing to run even at all, I'm noticing that the pop-in distance is absolutely terrible. Objects I'm facing literally 1-2 blocks away sometimes don't even render after multiple save-freeze loops.
For what help it might be to the people troubleshooting, my save is just under 30mb in size, and I'm currently running 1.18.31 on my Switch. If it's helpful to the devs trying to solve this, I own the game on several platforms and subscribe to realms plus, so I can transfer my world to basically anything but iOS and test/confirm things across platforms online or off with a single consistent world.
I hope they can just rollback this last 2 version. The game is unplayable.
Freezing of the game during AUTOSAVING got worst like 5mins frozen time and still kicking other player. Like a Save and Quit process is executed.
We created a new world hoping to experience a smooth gameplay but it's still no good.
Minor new issue compared to freezing. But noticed that when joining a 2nd player on split screen things load normally in horizontal split. For vertical split the loading screen flickers like crazy and loading takes a very long time. The other character can see the 2nd player but the 2nd player is still on the loading screen with the "Let's go" text displaying. If 1st player hits the 2nd player it seems to get the loading screen to go away.
@thehandsomemedian -
After transferring my world to realms (the upload failed it said but I was able to use a backup and play on that) I can play on Switch without problems.
I have had issues with loading chunks while playing offline before 18.3 but it seems that playing on realms works fine for me. Maybe you will have the same outcome?
Edit:
My savefile is approx 250mb
If this is true, what are the chances that switch uses can get free realms while this is being resolved? (And a little after to transfer things back)
Not that I want to make yet another entry, but before I give up this game on the switch- at least until the next major update, I'd like to see it playable. While I had previously noted that my performance seemed to slightly improve after the update, that is no longer the case. It may have been that I have not had rain. Currently, it is raining, and I'm in an area with villagers and other mobs. It was OK before the rain- now it is unplayable. There is an autosave going on, but the machine is freezing with intermittent 1-2 second breaks. Previously, I had not experienced the lag aspect with the freeze. However, The world kept moving when I couldn't and I was killed by a mob that just appeared. This scattershot freezing and lag suggests that I also may lose all of my netherite because time is passing, but I'm lagged out. Please fix this soon- and get rid of the stupid 2 gig cap on all switch files- I have an empty memory stick and a file system too small to keep backups.
Edit- Yup all my netherite despawned due to lag. Really really frustrated with this. Its a fun game, but losing this much time after putting up with the previous killer bug where all your mobs just disappeared is kind of too much. I understand Bedrock has to work on a lot of less than optimal hardware. However plenty of other sophisticated software runs fine on the platform. Please do a better job Mojang of playtesting your software on the switch. I don't want to but I may have to move on if I cannot play the game or it continues to nuke any work I put into it.
Adding a second comment to back up theories regarding mob spawning and freezing/lag.
Whilst in an area with no mobs spawning I had intermittent freezing but it was playable, and irregular. Then, whilst doing some work slightly below ground, I heard a load of mobs spawn above me (skeletons, spiders, and witches), and the game is now freezing every few seconds. I've had around ten minutes of playable game in the last half hour or so.
In my diamond strip mines, there is barely any lag or freeze, and they are way below any spawnable areas.
Played on Switch, 150ish MB file, offline, survival, normal difficulty.
I play with my girlfriend a lot. We don’t use realms. She has a world on her Switch and I come into it via my own Switch. Since 1.18.30 and 1.18.31, whenever the game is experiences the autosave freeze bug, I’m almost always disconnected from her game and sent back to the menu. I’ll reconnect to her game easily enough once it has unfrozen, but I’ll just be disconnected again on the next autosave. As you can imagine, playing together has been very frustrating the last couple weeks as a result.
I play a good amount on switch. However this is a bit frustrating. I can deal with freezing and lag, but now it just crashed my entire game. "The software was closed because an error occurred" I program a bit myself too and I get that bugs are hard to fix but pleas try to patch this one ASAP. Thanks in advance.
I started playing with my 5 YO nephew and we loved it. From the 1.18 update it's been unplayable. Mobs or no mobs the freezing it terrible.
Despite the freezing my son still wants to play. We bought the sonic DLC and the DLC freezes much worse than the standard game.
Same here on same new version. Game will freeze when autosave occurs and during autosave game will drop in performance for a bit.
Is there a place that we can find updates on the progress they are making on this update? Or are we just going to be out of the loop?
I have noted after the 1.18.31 update that the freeze is still there, but less frequent, and most important, during the freezes now the world is not running without me. I mean, that in 1.18.30 I got killed two times, one drowned and one burned onto a magma block, so I were in panic every time I enter in water since then, but yesterday I have checked that during freezes while diving the time had also stop, so there is some advance.
I play in my Switch, in survival peaceful, with my big main world, over 500mb. I have been building in my base, where I have six villagers, twelve tropical fishes, 9 bees, a sheep, a dog, a cat, a parrot and several fishes. But I have also been mining far away from my base, and had the same freeze.
Yesterday I joined a new fresh world from my friend's Switch in creative, and we played for half and hour and everything worked fine.
for me regular freezing of the game, especially in the villages that i improved or in the villages that i created, save of 1.2GB, i can not play ( the game freezes 4min on 5min).
Worked very well before the last two updates but has been working really badly since the last one.
I updated the game and in a 35 mb world, the freezes are still the same than the 1.18.30 update, I don't have an so much advanced or big world, really I don't feel any improvement
Just had my first major freeze during the auto save. I've been having long freezes for commands( the ones I use are /locate and /timesetday) I would say its moderately large (about 50 chunks from spawn but its not a radius)
We tried to play again the other night ... three players local ... survival ... hard ... world around 22MB.
We tried to play again together because the freezing seemed to have lessened. However, with the three of us, it did get pretty messed up sometimes at least with the loading/lagging. Eventually one of us dropped out, which might have helped a little bit.
Autosaves and opening up dialogs (for inventories or crafting) still seemed to be the triggers.
This has been an ongoing issue for me the last several days, but for some reason it seems to have worsened during the last two days. Today it is at a point where it lags out so frequently and for such extended periods of time gameplay is impossible (and incredibly frustrating).
I’ve tried putting my switch into airplane mode to see if it offers any improvement, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference.
REALLY hope to see this solved quickly. Until it is minecraft is officially a write-off for me.
So to me when it freezes it seems to be maybe a network timeout delay, or a delay due to the autosave. I haven't seen any issues pop up in my firewall logs that suggest a network problem reaching a site. It would be very nice if there was a command to disable autosave and see if that helps.
Hi, so for me as soon as I open my world it is auto saving and from there is starts to lag first for a moment then freeze completely. Taking several minutes (10-15min) before I can actually move but then it starts all over again. Occasionally after the autosave freeze I can play for about 2-3 min before it starts doing that again.
I have suffered the 1.18.31 version in switch and here are my conclusions after playing several hours
First there are not improvements since the 1.18.30, the chunks are really slow to load, having an intense popping effect with a really low level of draw distance
The freezings are the same, every time when autosaves more or less every 10 minutes being same annoying than before but for now it's a bit better than before, taking little more time to autosave, with every freeze taking 35 seconds (timed)
I don't know that it's only me but everytime when I play and save my game, the game archives gets bigger even if I don't discover new chunks, is this normal?
Tested in single player, survival, offline a 38 mb save file
Honestly I'm thinking that this will not be fixed, at least not In short term
I've found the best way to make it run somewhat smooth is by turning off everything such as smooth lighting, fancy leaves, particle effects, on screen animation etc.
I also made the render distance the lowest and turned anti-aliasing to the lowest.
It still freezes but I'd say it runs smoother.
Well, if they will not fix it and considering the unplayable state of the game, can we get our money back?
Freezes every auto save but also tries to auto save like back to back every few seconds? Why. Also freezes when breaking blocks or encountering multiple mobs. Sound lags and doesn’t match up. While in the nether I broke blocks with a diamond pickaxe and several vanished quickly. When I walked forward it then decided those blocks weren’t broken after all and they reappeared and almost suffocated me. The freezes feel really long and frequent again. VERY hard to play the actual game.
When I got close to my zombie farm, which was filled with zombies, the game became unplayable due to back-to-back autosaving that started. Thankfully, I was able to kill all the zombies after twenty minutes of freezing up, and the lag slowed down to every few minutes. So I wonder if it’s due to entities/mobs. Honestly, I bet it would be fixed if there was an option to turn of autosaving.
New info as of 5/5/2022:
Whereas a week ago the game was freezing every 10 or so minutes, it’s way more constant. In fact, the game is freezing so constantly it’s unplayable. Kicking anyone in my party frequently (and no, it’s not internet). Very possible I won’t be able to touch the game and play/engage marketplace until this is ever patched.
PLEASE fix this soon, mojang.
As per the latest changelog, we are hoping that this issue is now resolved:
the freezing appears to be fixed finally. i walked around for about 10 minutes and it didn’t freeze once! upon loading in there were some issues with rendering / audio that fixed theirselves within a few minutes of playing.
Not resolved. I played for 5 minutes on 1.18.32 before an auto save and surprise…. I’m frozen.
EDIT: for context, this is my long term survival world that’s over 400mb. I realize that’s a fairly large, but my world was working fine before 1.18.30😞
Another edit: it IS a lot better, but I’m still experiencing freezes mostly during autosaving. They’re thankfully less frequent and aren’t lasting as long, but I am having to hit the home button to break out of the freezes.
I can agree that after about half an hour of play time that the issues seem to fixed for me at least now too.
Agreed tested so far with 75Mb save and played through 2 autosaves (about 15min) with no issue. Will update if anything changes.
It is now playable at least - but still having issues during auto-save. Blocks take a long time to disappear after breaking. The sound is on time. Slight stutter after the save also as it catches up. Keep working on it! ¤
Edit: Game has crashed completely a couple of times now. not responsive to any key presses. having to go back to the home menu and close it. Then when I re-open it it has been shut down with an error message that there was an error with the program and it was closed...
NOT FIXED!! ¤
I’ve been playing for maybe half an hour with no freezing, despite there being around five autosaves, so it seems that it was fixed, as of this moment.
It's not perfect but it's good, the problems with the rendering distance is still low but is acceptable and does not freezers
Much improved, but I would not call it "fixed". (~170 MB world, single-player, Switch) Still, definite progress has been made! 🙂
I played for ~4 hours last night and it hung 7 times. One time for 4 minutes, one time for 2 minutes. The others were ~20 sec, which is still game-ending if it happens at the wrong time, but not entirely frustrating as it was under 1.18.30 and .31.
Still, I don't trust the game enough to run it without making a backup copy of the world before playing. Imagine you're in a cave when the 20 sec of paralysis sets in.
Under 1.18.30, the world continued on as the player froze. Under 1.18.31, the world appeared to stop with the player, which is good for single-player, but can't possibly work out for multi, right? Under 1.18.32, the old behavior of the world moving on reappeared – the time that it froze for 4 minutes, the sun had set and it had gotten dark by the time my character could move again.
The problem appears to be stochastic, and whatever fix is in has dramatically reduced the frequency of occurrence, but it still happens.
I would not call this fixed. Triaged, band-aided? My gut says that the root cause is still there. (Or it's another problem with exactly the same symptoms...)
Freezing has gotten way better. Barely freezes for us anymore (3 player split screen not on internet) It has frozen a couple times for like a few seconds (one time for a few minutes) but it has a major lag to it now sometimes. When we break blocks or harvest our gardens it will still show up like it is there when it shouldn't. Sometimes the block will disappear and reappear when the lag is done. Slightly frustrating but way better than the constant freeze.
I usually play single player about 160mb world, but i have played multi player with my 2 sons on split screen. it is not possisble to play multi player anymore do to freezing with updates. The freezing and or glitching has slightly improved when i am away from my main village and base, but when i am near my village or main base (about 45 villagers) or near main bases that has auto pumpkin, melon, sugar, bamboo, pig, cow, chicken, and sheep farms. the freezes is so bad i have to home button to main screen and reload game.
i see 3 main freezing glitches. first is when mining. when game glitches i see black screen with stars in background if blocks are many solid blocks ahead of me, but i can get a glimpse of a cave 50-75 blocks away during the chunk loading by scanning left and right. i mine towards the cave and find new caves this way. second is near village or main bases, game just freezing usually 30 sec but up to 4 min. the third glitch is also near main base, the screen is almost like watching snapshots, its not a smooth transition with play but more of seeing every other second or two.
What hexagon5un wrote above applies to me, Under 1.18.30, the world continued on as the player froze. Under 1.18.31, the world appeared to stop with the player, which is good for single-player, but can't possibly work out for multi, right? Under 1.18.32, the old behavior of the world moving on reappeared – the time that it froze for 4 minutes, the sun had set and it had gotten dark by the time my character could move again.
this is not a resolved issues, thankyou for you continued support.
The game is so much better. The game rarely freezes, but it is only for 5 seconds. I can finally turn back on my texture packs without a huge spike of lag in my survival world. I died to lag in 1.18.31, so I'm glad to say that there are less lag spikes.
Successfully managed to enter my house without freezes. (40+ villagers, fish, animals, golems, bees) so there has been a marked improvement. The game is playable again!
We put the settings back up, too.
A couple of things puzzled us, which will probably end up tracked in a separate issue:
when 3 players played split screen, a screenshot of the 2nd played appeared in the empty 4th player slot.
The game closed from an error after about 40 minutes of playing.
Still, good job!
Not sure I would call it resolved, but the game is playable at least. Still freezes occasionally, but only for 5-10s seconds. Lots more block lag than there used to be, but it's OK. Hopefully next fix can resolve it completely. Please don't stop looking into this
It's definitely better than it was before the most recent update. My daughter was completely unable to use her pretty small creative world but that is now working perfectly. However, my slightly larger (but not huge) survival world is still having issues with loading chunks around my base, freezing as soon as the world loads and intermitted mini-freezes (from a couple of seconds to a couple of minutes). The "fix" is definitely a step in the right direction, but I wouldn't agree that the issue is completely "resolved!"
Just played again and there is still an issue with the auto save causing the game to freeze!
Unresolved issue, please continue to look into this. I was playing in overworld near a minicamp 1000 blocks away from main base, (10 villagers, less than 150 crops, 50 farm animals) there has been a decrease in number of and durations of freezes. The game is unplayable near my main base. I headed into nether fortress today attempting to collect wither skulls and blaze rods. The first time I died was the software closed on me when I was near 2 wither skeletons and a couple of blazes, and piglins. I reloaded game and saw the respawn screen. The second time I died, is when I headed back to collect by gear the game froze with full bar of health, only to unfreeze with 1 heart left, killed by wither skeleton. thus, again went back to collect gear and this time it vanished. I lost my diamond gear on the freezing game glitch. It feels disheartening not being able to play a world we have spent hours building due to updates. Please continue to look into these issues, thankyou for you continued support.
Well, the updated partially correct the freezings and the game it's now at least playable in a small world like mine (50 MB) , but still have crashes when I try to close it from the menu, this without mentioning the freezings that the people with bigger worlds have, despite the game is playable again, it still needs some fixes
Update:
The game still freezes when I am in a mob-heavy area AND we have 3 or 4 players playing in split screen. No errors happen with 2 players.
My house contains a village with about 45 villagers + cats, about 20 tropical fish, 24 bees, another 20 animals and 4 iron golems. It was a bit laggy before 1.18.30, unplayable until 1.18.32, seemingly fine since except for that.
However, the freeze only happens after a little while in the village, about half a day or so.
The freeze lasted well over a minute and unfroze for only a few seconds.
During that time:
A song played by another player on their jukebox kept playing.
Time kept passing, as the clock jumped forward when the game unfroze.
Played another three-hour session on 1.18.32, Switch, now nearly 180 MB world, single player. It froze a few times for around 20 seconds and many times for around 5 seconds – I didn't time it or count accurately this time.
Looking at the changelog, it says "Addressed chunk loading and freezing issues on Nintendo Switch (MCPE-154110)" and I can't say that's wrong. It doesn't say "fixed", but merely "addressed". That's true. The problem was reduced, although it still exists.
Does this mean that this ticket should be closed as resolved? A 90% fix was implemented, but the core symptoms still persist. If this ticket is closed, should we open another ticket for the remaining intermittent stalls? (Honest question. I really don't know the dev culture here.)
There is also new significant block lag that didn't exist before 1.18.30, and it's unpleasant. You break a block and it still persists for a few seconds. It's in your inventory and you can walk through it, but it's like the rendering hasn't caught up. I don't know enough about the game code to guess if this is related or not. Probably should be on another ticket.
If I were coming to the game fresh, I would say that it's laggy, buggy, and freezes occasionally. I would probably want my money back. Having played before 1.18.30 when it worked really well, and having been run through the past three weeks of complete unplayability, I'd say it's improved over 1.18.30/31.
I believe that the ticked should be reopened cause despite the fixes of 1.18.32 addressed the freezings, chunk loading and another issues, there are still here and still can cause (and are causing) problems to other players, mostly them that have huge worlds and probably more time played
Reopened for review. While the 1.18.32 hotfix has addressed many of the issues, it seems that there are still some ongoing problems that you have mentioned.
I have some crashes while I save and quit and try to close the game program and sometimes doesn't login in my Microsoft account or take much time, is not always but it happens frequently
Since the last update I thought that in most parts this was fixed in my world. It’s now come to light that the freeze still happens although less frequent. It does appear that the freeze happens more often around mobs. Chucks are very slow to load while travelling often taking many minute to travel small distances.
Very glad to see this is reopened. I’ve noticed freezes most often when around a lot of mobs, interacting w shulker boxes, and especially when traveling long distances. The ice road I spent hundreds of hours building is virtually pointless ATM.
I just bought Minecraft on the Nintendo Switch a few weeks ago so I could play cross platform with my kids. It locks up the whole system when it freezes. Freezing occurs after about 10 mins(sometimes more, sometimes less) & seems to occur no matter what I/we are doing: playing solo, cross platform, split screen, etc. It especially does it worse if playing in a Mario Mash-Up created world. I haven't noticed if it was auto saving at the time but will watch closer the next time we try to play it. With all the various issues with having it on the Switch, I'm regretting buying it & should have just got it on the PC or XBOX.
Freezes are still persistent, it freezes for about 1 or 2 minutes when I was swimming and when the game reacted again I got drowned.
In a 50 MB world, offline single player
Edit: after the freezing, I start to have the lag in block breaking and occasionally freezings
Having issues with chunk loading muliplayer and single player. We can see the caves underneath. Also still freezes when opening chests. And I have jus mr noticed that my game closes due to lack of storage and says it has restricted acesss. I checked my switch and I have plenty of storage space so not sure what is causing this to happen but I have googled it and says it’s a glitch.
My 100MB world worked post-fix-update so long as I turned of all texture packs. However, this morning my entire world was hot pink. Trees, plants, flooring, etc. are all now either hot pink or magenta. Textures are still utterly broken, now the worlds are pink (whereas before they just froze randomly or during autosave). Please fix this, guys. This is getting ridiculous.
This is just speculation, but I'm starting to wonder if this freezing/stuttering and chunk loading has to do with the 2gb cap that's been plaguing console edition Bedrock for years.
I had a update 1.18.33 and the switch is actually freezing much more when playing ./9 wondering when this is going to get fixed
For me the 1.18.33 update improved the freezing. Though there is a lag when breaking blocks and them disappearing, the blocks adjacent are pink and blue before the proper texture comes in.
I actually opened a gate got through it and closed it again before the gate moved!
There was a worse delay while the auto save was going on, it was at least playable with that until...It froze completely when it was raining, resulting in having to close and reload.
Hopefully you'll get to the bottom of this soon - I dare not go to the nether while the issues persist!
Chunk loading gets worse in the 1.18.33 update? it's really annoying get lost because you can't take visual references of the place that you are, because few blocks away there is nothing, I've noted that the chunk loading lag is more persistent when the game it's autosaving, and talking about the autosaving, the game autosaves in almost every moment causing occasionally block breaking lag and sometimes not so frequently freezings in a 60.0 MB world, survival, offline. The game is playable again but really needs improvement and fixes cause it still have really irritating problems that notoriously affects the player experience, that in a small world like mine, how is in bigger worlds with farms and mobs and things like that?
Not sure if this ties into this issue but I’ve had items disappear from in inventory and some items doubled. Mostly lost netherite tools (pick axe, shovel) and hoppers and had items like stone of all variety doubled. Lag and freezers have also increased
Been playing for a week now on 18.33, Switch, single-player, ~190 MB world.
Where before the game would freeze when opening a chest or player inventory, now it displays the VU-meter-bars waiting thing, and you can continue to move, but it can take a minute or longer for the dialog to open.
Block-breaking lag has been extremely variable – much of the time it's OK, and then sometimes you have 10 seconds or more of staring through the world, or waiting for it to update. Oddly enough, shadows seem to render almost instantly that the block is broken or placed, and water seems to flow appropriately as well.
Chunk loading is consistently very slow. I don't have a benchmark on Switch for this, because I (finally) got elytra during 18.32, but I can't really use them because as soon as I fly more than ~8 chunks, the new chunks take ~10-15 s to load in, at which time the character is stuck at the border, slowly losing altitude. I did notice slow chunk loads in a boat prior to the whole 18.3x issues, though, so maybe this isn't new. But elytra are essentially unusable because the world cannot keep up.
Second what hexagon5un said about chunk loading, the elytra & ice roads are nearly pointless. I’ve also been working on my villager trading hall & am experiencing Ching a lot of freezing issues when working w them, as well as villagers disappearing even tho they’re within a single chunk. I’ve also had 2 game files corrupted & totally unusable, just will not open. I’m around 450mb which I know is pushing the limits of the switch 😬 thankfully I back up every few hours.
Also experiencing delayed chunk loading. ~60mb world.
No more freezing during loading screens, but now when I die there's maybe 1 minute before I can move. The game doesn't seem frozen, but I'm held in place as blocks slowly spawn in around me (this also happens when first loading the world).
Also quite some delay with block breaking/placement at times, particularly in the nether. I've had stairs that were placed completely undo themselves and return to my inventory after the blocks I cleared to place them didn't really break.
I also recieve an issue occasionally putting items in my inventory, taking off armour and it goes back on (no curse of binding) taking items from chests or even putting items in an enchantment table, only really happens when putting an item in a blank spot however this isn't constant but when it does happen it is occurring for around 5 mins
I’m experiencing the same issue. Been playing bedrock edition on the switch for 2-3 years and had a few minor issues (or “miner issues”…. Sorry) with it in that time, but it is completely unplayable now since the 1.18.33 update came out. The game freezes temporarily for a few seconds about 3 times per minute, but after about 10 minutes it freezes permanently! I have to close the software entirely and restart it each time but it keeps freezing about 10 mins in every time. What’s more is that the game seems to continue while the screen is frozen. If I’m near any angry mobs they’ll kill me while frozen, the day cycle will continue etc. it’s so frustrating! Seems to happen mostly when the game is trying to autosave, opening inventory and chests takes forever to load, and even starting up the game from a saved point takes much longer to render now. It used to always take a few seconds to render before the update but it’s 3 or 4 times worse now. Seems like this latest update has broken the game entirely 😞
My situation is the same as above - I'm on a Switch (an earlier model, dockable) and now that I've been playing this version for a bit as both a single player and in local multi-player (both the host / world owner and the joiner) these are my observations:
Note: The two Switches involved are of the same age, have rendering set at the recommended 12, are optimized for performance (no fancy things), and do not have experimental features. Minecraft is loaded on the Switch itself and there is plenty of room on both the Switch (and the SD card).
ridiculously slow chunk loading (stand around for 10 to 30 seconds and sometimes longer at the edge of a chunk, waiting for it to load)
visible framerate lag (the mobs are moving at super slow framerate and then suddenly "run" or swim eg nearby fish, drowned, creepers)
delayed block breaking (you mine and it looks like you did, but the block doesn't break... and suddenly you broke two blocks and not just one)
actions happening but not happening (same with delayed block breaking)
delayed mob actions (you visually smack a creeper away on time and it looks like you have plenty of distance... and then it blow ups, you kill an illager... and after it's already dead, it goes "ow!")
The biggest problem with this is that you pretty much can't do anything "dangerous" without an OVERabundance of caution which... defies the point of Normal or Easy Survival mode.
You have no idea if a mob is 10 blocks away from you (on the same chunk) or right in front of your face. You have no idea if the dark cave you're peeking into is actually THAT deep and dark or if you're having chunk loading issues. You carefully mine a block with an Efficiency pickaxe only to discover you accidentally mined out two and ooops you mined into a hole or there's lava waiting for you.
The game isn't completely unplayable IF you have full armor, Feather Falling, Respiration, and a good sword to counter all the Ooops moments from lag, but even for an experienced Minecraft player (since 1.3) like myself, it's still a major pain and all the chunk lag and general lag in general makes the "improvements" (almost) not worth it at all.
Please note that we need to keep this bug ticket limited to the specific issue mentioned, which is to do with the game freezing periodically.
Any other issues such as slow chunk loading, block breaking lag, etc. will need to be addressed in separate tickets. (Please make use of the search feature, to see if the issue has already been mentioned.)
Thank you for your patience.

IT CRASHES BECAUSE THE INVENTORY IS FULL WHEN OPENING THE CHEST.
Invite character into another game and delete some items. Now it doesn't crash.
Sorry!
I was looking at the previous related tickets as well that included both freezing AND really bad lag at the same time.
When I had previously experienced those same issues on the same console, it had been a related problem.
That said, how do you know the difference between a pure freeze (gameplay stops) and super slow loading (for example, chunks are stuck in loading and you don’t see any visible changes)?
I didn't find the a chunk loading issue ticket that's why I became here again, someone have opened a ticket for this issue?
I also am unable to find a specific chunk loading ticket, & am having a TON of issues with that. My elytra & ice roads are virtually unusable. Also agree w Sef that the freezing/chunk loading/lag issues seem to be intertwined since they all started with the 1.18.3 update. Please advise if there is another ticket that we can vote for/follow.
MCPE-120971 seems to be the most relevant for chunk loading. The report is not specific to the Switch, and dates back to 1.16, though, so I'm not sure that it's the same root cause. The symptoms fit, though, and I don't have the code to look at. 🙂
I have opened MCPE-156497 for the block-breaking lag post 1.18.30 on the Switch, which I have experienced to be significantly different/worse than pre 1.18.30.
I'm seeing the same issue, the freezes seem to happen more and more frequently as I build out my world, not so much early game. It usually resolves itself after a minute or so of waiting, but that's still pretty annoying.
This is happening more frequently since updating to 1.19. In previous versions of 1.18, the freezing on auto save and disappearing blocks/delayed breaking of blocks had improved. This seems to have regressed, as I am seeing the same minute plus freezing on auto save and missing animation when breaking blocks on 1.19 similarly to the initial problems reported in this ticket that have been improved with the various 1.18 updates on the Nintendo Switch.
The freezings was addressed in the 1.18.32 but in the 1.19 it started to happened more frequently, even if it's more tolerable than the every 10 minutes freezing in the 1.18.30 and don't take so much, freezings are now more frequent and still annoying, the game was at least playable despite the chunk loading lag, block breaking lag and audio delays, but now it's unplayable again, I can't believe that this is happening again, it's really disappointing, it leaves the switch version as the worst of all console version.
I'm also seeing the same issue in 1.19.
Sometimes it never un-freezes, and I have to force-reload my game (losing some progress).
Version 1.91.1 freezing regularly. Sometimes it does not unfreeze and I have to force reload.
I'm not sure what good these comments do. And I'm not sure why we keep rolling out new versions when the bugs of the previous version don't seem to be fixed.
Current ongoing issues ...
Chunk loading is miserable. Even just taking the surface at a run eventually leads you into nothingness while you wait for things to load, especially if an autosave happens along the way. Forget 'flying'.
Villagers, chests, doors, etc. become inaccessible while autosaving
Game freezes upon the death of a player in survival, especially in the Nether ... at least 4 times (stopped counting after that) while playing multiplayer in the Nether, a player died, causing a complete freeze of the game for several moments; twice the game ended up requiring a manual close of the software and restart
I'm not sure how often autosaving is SUPPOSED to happen, or how long it's SUPPOSED to take, but autosaves happen so often and take so long with each one that it often feels like the game is constantly autosaving, with no option to turn it off.
All issues are worsened when playing with local multiplayer, the more players in the game, the worse it gets
Before 1.18.30, we would regularly have 3 players in local multiplayer with NO ISSUES. Since then, the game has become unplayable, especially if you're doing any 'exciting'. About all we can do these days is single player, mining and building stuff, and even then there is a delay in chunk-loading, sounds, etc.
I would LOVE to hear some kind of statement about why this is happening and what is being done, because I would never have payed money to purchase this game if I had any inclination it would become THIS screwed up. 😞 Not a happy player.
It keeps happening with auto-save and that happens every 5 or 10 minutes. My game is practically unplayable. I didn't have that issue on realm, but my days has ended there. Don't want to start paying every month for a single player realm and having to risk loosing another world, because of the download problems that are there for over 2 years now.
Just got back to playing, updated to 1.19 on Switch. Same freezing problem still persists. Froze for a minute or two, came back to hear a rain of pillager arrows and die.
For others out there, remember to make a copy of your world before you start playing or after you do anything that you really want to keep. Because you may die randomly.
1.19.2 is a step backwards. Issues are even more extreme with local multiplayer.
The 2nd player will join and get the loading screen for minutes while the avatar is visible to the 1st player.
Opening chests brings up the loading bar for minutes on end.
How after 3 months is this game still being sold and dlc being sold. The game has been unplayable for far too long and nobody should be profiting off the game in its current state.
The Bug has gotten worse. I opened a chest in the nether when the auto save icon appeared (I know, How dare I) and the game froze on my screen entirely for 2 minutes straight. When the game finally unfroze, I found out that i had been shot to death by a blaze. If the bug isn't going to be fixed anytime soon, at least give us the option to turn off autosave. That would negate the bug until its finally resolved.
They said they fixed it which they did but they must've done something to it to make it happen my best option would be to turn off autosave until they fixed it
I see my comment was deleted, even though several others were mentioning the same issues as earlier commentators.
I just opened my game again today and it actually froze during the "loading world" screen. I couldn't even get into my game. I've lost two worlds already due to them being virtually unplayable.
If you don't have the human capital necessary to address Switch users on an efficient and sustainable basis, then PLEASE at least give us our money back.
I've got killed and after that the game stucked in "generating world" and no respawning, everytime this gets even worse, please fix it or give us our money back
Minecraft 1.19.2 on nintendo switch freezes when a second or third player joins. this used to be intermittent but now it occurs with any user almost every time. the game is unplayable with multiple users on the same screen in splitview 🥺

Not sure if the following pertains to this issue:
• Every time a Ghast goes through a lava fall, every entity suffers a tps drop (mobs moving bit by bit like snails). Returns to normal after Ghast despawns/dies.
• Whenever a unique sound (to that specific session) plays after about an hour long session, it has a delay & causes a minor lag spike [These spikes can "stack" (explained in steps to reproduce for Zombie Spawner)].
Steps to Reproduce: (Ex: Deepslate & Creeper)
Play for >1 hour without breaking/mining deepslate & not run into a creeper.
Have a creeper destroy deepslate.
Expected Results: Audio for explosion and block breaking should be in sync.
Observed Results: Minor lag spike & audio delay occurs.
Steps to Reproduce: (Ex: Zombie Spawner with Drowned conversion & Trident Killer)
Have the spawner be active (if using a redstone lamp as an off switch).
Turn on water bucket dispenser (for Drowned conversion).
Wait for 10+ zombies to convert to drowned.
Turn off water dispenser.
Have more zombies enter kill chamber.
Turn on Trident Killer. I recommend doing this during an autosave (It's hard to miss tbh; occurs every 5 - 20 seconds).
Expected Results: Zombies/Drowned dies normally without noticeable gameplay issues (Pre 1.18.30 runs like a dream with expected fps drop with 50+ Zombies/Drowned).
Observed Results: Game freezes (especially during autosave) for about 5 seconds for every sound the game attempts to play [water flow, Zombie/Drowned idle/hurt/death sounds, pistons extending/retracting, & Trident colliding sounds (hence the audio lag spike "stacking").]
I like how the switch can run massive open world games like breath of the wild something my iPhone could never possibly dream of running. But yet Minecraft runs 1000% better on my less powerful phone. I wish there was a real effort to fix this issue already it makes the game completely unplayable at times. It also causes the game to become unbalanced since it unintentionally gives you X-ray mod because blocks won’t update properly. It gets worse the longer you play in 1 world aswell I havnt even gotten to the end yet and I can’t open my inventory without having a to wait a full minute sometimes more at times.
The game still freezes, not so much, it's a lot better than before, but still have all their problems, this is not more than superficial fix but the core issues are still there, I don't test it in split screen but in single player offline at least is playable
retire what I said before, the game is still unplayable, the freezes are not in game but there is still there, has been several times that the game freezes in "generating world" and when I try to close the game, it crash, and still the game freezes when autosaves, not so much and not always but still there
The game freezes when autosaving, and after the 1.19.2 update it freezes the whole system. None of the buttons respond and I am unable to get the system to turn off or respond at all.
This issue becomes an even bigger issue if your in water or by monsters or any other situation that requires you to react or you’ll die because time does not stop in the game while it’s frozen it will catchup all in 1 second and insta kill you
Yes I have been experiencing 10-15 minute freezing when i'm flying in creative mode and I hope this will be fixed soon because I have to wait 10-15 min to unfreeze. (But it could not be me flying but instead it could be the auto saving that freezes the game, i'm not 100% sure)
Just so everyone knows, renderdragon is currently disabled on switch at the time of writing this comment, so it's irrelevant to this problem now.
I updated Minecraft to the latest version just yesterday and... it did nothing 😞 I got past the generating world screen and was able to walk around for a good 15-20 seconds before everything froze again. My world is only 114MB. I attempted to close it from the Switch home menu, and I got an error message stating "the software was closed because an error occurred"
When are you guys actually going to fix this? You've closed and re-opened this case more times than I can count. This is ridiculous at this point.
I was in a mine and I found 26 diamonds after that the game crushed and now I cannot go back to my saved game because the game crashed all the time. I do not know if there has been an errori during the diamonds finding that broke the cpu.
in ant case my game is lost if I can’t even log in
Version 1.19.21 on my switch is freezing constantly. It was not doing this before in 1.19.20. I got stuck in the nether portal because it froze right then and then I was killed by mobs. I’m not sure how to pull logs from my switch, and I’m not sure it provides much more information. I just didn’t see the specific version number listed in any of the comments and wanted to add.
1.19.22
Audio delay/stacking & autosaving remains the biggest contributors to the freezing.
Current Workaround: Have as many sounds as possible played before venturing. (Ex: Getting hit by an arrow 5-10 mins after loading world has a chance to cause a freeze, as opposed to getting hit by an arrow right away & onwards per login.)
Side Note: World Hosts accessing Switch keyboard causes massive tps drop for other players.
Time delay on mining blocks and placing blocks are extremely delayed, placed blocks will often disappear beneath your feet. I have now lost multiple sets of neitherite armour and weapons all with high level enchantments from fulls and lava oceans. Shooting arrow either does not happen or it just drops out making any attack from long range completely useless. This problem does not seems to be getting better but more problems seem to be happening the more the problem is “fixed”
At what point goes this game start to improve. There are certainly far fewer problems with Minecraft on other consoles
Added extra: Traveling or mining in the neither is impossible. If the magical disappearing blocks don’t kill you than invisible Ghast that is yet to spawn or even signal of an attack will. Having dropped into the abyss of a lava ocean and having slowly cooked in the process. Returning to collect neitherite tools and weapons (which are immune from being destroyed by lava) were not present.
10/10 for commitment to fix these items. Seems like you are either unwilling to fix or just can be bothered.
I just opened up Minecraft after the last update. I was able to run around and open/close gates, but the game completely froze (AGAIN!) when I tried to open my inventory. It froze for more than a minute, then the inventory came on screen, before freezing again. It has yet to start working. Seriously, man. What is going on?????
Switch with Minecraft Bedrock 1.19.30
Freezing - random freezing when undertaking any activity.
Lock up - locking up when undertaking any activity. Requires either a soft restart or hard reboot to resume playing.
Locking up on game start - when starting an existing, single player game, it will frequently lock up. Either a soft restart or hard reboot to play. Often requires multiple restarts.
Lag when placing or breaking blocks.
"Loading" animation when opening chests, attempting to trade with villagers, opening a profession block or crafting table. Loading animation can take 30-60 seconds.
While I have had all the same issues mentioned here, especially the placing block lag and visual glitches, the two points where this is most noticeable is in the nether and while on a boat. The nether tends to have very bad freezes that occur, seemingly randomly, which have lasted anywhere from 30 seconds to an upwards of 120 seconds. While on a boat, chunks will stop loading, and few sporadic chunks will load every 1 to 2 minutes. I am able to boat a few blocks past the last loaded chunk, then I run into an invisible wall until it loads. I do not have an elytra on this world at this point, but I would imagine it would be much the same as the boat, which, for obvious reasons, would be far more dangerous.
I am trying to keep to factual statements in this comment, but it is difficult considering we are nearing in on a full version's worth of updates, and the last time anything about this was addressed was when this was reopened because the 1.18 update that was supposed to fix this did not. Hopefully this information above will help, but at very least, I am trying to add another voice so this eventually gets fixed, hopefully sooner than later.
Since 1.18.30, I've been plagued with a glitch where my screen gets stuck for 1-10 minutes when my friend enters or exits the world (related to MCPE-162394?).
Affect 1.19.41
If you have a copy of the world available, you might like to upload a copy of it for investigation.
On Switch the only way is to upload it to a Realm, and then download the world on Windows 10 or Android/iOS. (Please do not purchase a Realms subscription just to provide a world to us - but if you have a Realm already this may be a viable option if you wish to do so.)
If the world is larger than 10MB you can upload the world to OneDrive or a similar file sharing site, and then share the link.
I play on Nintendo Switch, this issue was horrible in 1.18.30. It got better in 1.18.31 and 1.18.32, then disappeared forever in 1.18.33. I haven't seen this bug since, so I believe it's been fixed...? Unless people have video evidence clearly showing it still happening for some people, I would say it is fixed.
This issue is certainly not fixed. I still experience delays, freezing, and chunks not loading on Switch Minecraft. I have upload comments and screenshots in other posts on here. I am more than willing to upload a video if that is necessary.
I still have this issue as well. The freezing is not every autosave anymore, but does occur. The chunk loading is very slow and travelling by boat is a miserable experience. Breaking blocks can be very laggy at times. Opening the inventory or interacting with a container (especially right after the world loads) can lead to a loading bar until it pops up a few seconds later.
Not fixed for me either. Since 1.19.30 the freezing on autosave isn't a complete lockout, but I still can't open anything that resembles an inventory (including villager interactions and any kind of crafting interface or furnace) during an autosave. All block placing and breaking goes haywire with varied results and don't get me started on pistons and neutral mobs, which stutter on a 2 second cycle of freeze for 1s, move for 1s etc with no other obvious signs of lag outside autosaves. I would happily upload a world for investigation if I had any hope after so long with the bugs on switch that Mojang would put any effort into opening the world let alone investigating it.
Hello
A simple and possible fix: Before fixing this issue, please add an option to configure the autosave (time or disable). The game crashes very rarely (for me sometime when the console is too hot in summer). Such an option should be a breath of fresh air.
Or maybe some ideas:
1 - I guess there is an event queue that can't be unstacked fast enough. Maybe it could be possible to either mark some events as discardable or stop to enqueue less important events when queue is too hudge. That way, the game could be able to recover real time faster. Events such as sound, evolution of wolrd (growth, water, lava etc.) are not so important compared to the gameplay.
2 - Auto reduce the display distance during autosave if it is possible to detect latency.
3 - Save the chunks in memory then use a thread to save on the card (I'm sure you tried or thought about that).
4 - Maybe the pathfinding is too consuming. A good pathfinding should not block the thread, but compute a little part of the path.I wrote such an efficient pathfinder for minecraft (mod making pnj act as guards) years ago on slow devices, and in fact I've never saw any mob standing. And the distance travelled was the max possible (loaded chunks). (modification of a-star able to compute in repeated small calls rather than all at once).
Hope this could help, even if I'm probably far from what you've already tried.
Thanks
1.19.51 Standard Switch
Looking back at 1.18.30, overall gradual improvement.
The freezing seems to have reversed. Mobs now suffer the freeze around every 4th/5th autosave.
Freezing is minimal or non-existent when a player plays on a Realm or server outside the list (you can).
Dear mojang
I would like to know the current status of the investigation.
It's been three months since I reported the bug. . .(MCPE-162571)
I wonder why some people are affected by this freezing bug and others are not.
I checked the error message "The software has been terminated because an error occurred" a total of 24 times from 2022-12-12 to 2023-01-05.
I believe this freezing bug is a compound bug.
I thought about it during the above period, but have you confirmed the connection with the server?
Depending on the time of day, I could feel it slowing down and then returning to normal.
(Time period when operation is slow
Japan time from 17:00 to 3:00. New York time 3:00 to 13:00
The period of time when the operation returns to normal
From 3:00 to 5:00 Japan time. New York time from 13:00 to 15:00)
Due to the increase in the number of players accessing the server, the operation on Nintendo Switch slowed down because it seems to exceed the allowable range of the server, and when automatic saving on Nintendo Switch starts, it will freezes or the software will be forced to quit? I thought.
Also, are you changing the allocation of players to servers according to server usage?
For example, when the player is changed from server A to server B because it seems to exceed the allowable range of the server, and when automatic saving on Nintendo Switch starts, it will freezes or the software will be forced to quit? I thought.
I hope this is a helpful idea.
I pinpointed the issue to the new render engine that had been introduced in 1.18.30. This had been fixed when the pre-1.18.30 render engine was reintroduced later (in 1.18.33 if I recall correctly?). With the reintroduction of that render engine in 1.19.60, the lag came back in full force. To me, that's the main cause of lag, a render engine that's somehow even less optimized than the old one.
For what it's worth, my single-player world is huge (a little over 600mb), so I expect lag regardless of the render engine; however, the new engine turns manageable lag into an unbearable one.
I play on Nintendo Switch and it was playing fairly well. Only minor glitching, this last update has made the game almost completely unplayable. The game freezes on a regular basis. On two player split screen its just as bad if not worse. It's really disappointing. It WAS a game my son and I could play together and now it's pretty much hopeless. A fix, sooner than later, would be much appreciated.
I have this issue. Game is freezing and lagging on the switch making it unplayable it can freeze many times in a minute causing my daughter huge frustration and upset.
please let me know what I can do to fix this
I started playing Bedrock edition on Switch (with a cartridge, not a console app purchase, and PLENTY of save space on the device) about a month ago. My world is currently 77MB. It began lagging shortly before the patch, then after the patch it started freezing, which became worse over time. As of the last 24 hours, the game has become unplayable, freezing every 3-5 seconds and spending more time frozen than active.
Visually, aside from the obvious chunk loading issues (I'm constantly running into empty air, especially in a boat), the one thing I've noticed is that leads behave very strangely during lags, with portions becoming stuck in different places (often on empty air if the animal changes direction abruptly) causing a cat's cradle effect until the lagging ends. However the lag doesn't seem to affect the behavior of NPC animals that are leashed as much as the lead itself.
I have only received a handful of communication error messages at the start of the issues, but have not received any since the lagging turned to freezing.
I still have this issue as well. I have been lucky until now and the glitching/freezing/slow chunk loading has only slowed me down a little.
I can now say it seems that, since the last update, my survival worlds are now unplayable! It completely freezes every few steps and I end up having to return to the switch homepage to close the game down. I also have a weird glitch where when I try to eat, the action and sounds happen, but the hunger bar does not increase and the item re-appears in my hotbar! I have to eat at least 10 times before it will work.
On the other hand, my daughter's current creative world (same console and login details) seems completely unaffected by any lag!
Please fix this Mojang!
I've been experiencing the same lag/freeze/crash errors that so many seem to be having on Nintendo Switch. 1.19.63 automatically downloaded to my Switch 2 days ago. Minecraft seemed playable again (still a bit laggy, but played for 15 minutes or so without any freezes or crashes). But yesterday it crashed again twice while trying to play. First time I played for about 2 minutes, game crashed (error screen with message: Minecraft has encountered an error and has to close). Takes me back to the Nintendo Switch home screen. I reloaded and Minecraft started me back where I had initially started playing (it didn't save anything I had done for those 2 minutes). Played again for about 5 minutes, game crashed again. I reloaded and it AGAIN started me back where I had begun playing the first time (it didn't save anything I had done for those 5 minutes). I am playing from a Minecraft game card.
With the most recent update, this issue is now worse than ever. It went away for quite a while, but it's clear that there is a serious problem with the autosave function. My world freezes for ten seconds at a time every few minutes now, and even on peaceful mode it's borderline unplayable.
When 1.19.63 was released it looked, briefly, like the issue had been resolved however its still impacting gameplay on realms and single player.
Random freezing, random "wait" animation when opening a chest, furnace or crafting table, slow responses when breaking blocks or harvesting_ crops.
I started a new single player world and have died multiple times now due to lag when being attacked by mobs. Lag when mining. Lag when swimming.
For me, sometimes it freezes, then kicks me out of Minecraft saying that "The software was closed because an error occured"
First off, thank you for making Minecraft for Nintendo Switch! I know it isn't the easiest platform in the world.
I updated to version 1.19.70 recently. I was hoping this would fix some lag and freezing, but it has not. It might be worse.
I play split-screen on a Nintendo switch. Local split-screen has a significant lag that increases with player count (more lag with 4 players than with 2). I have turned my chunk render distance down to try to help with this, but I often feel like it doesn't make a difference.
I used to blame all the lag on too many players, but even with only two players in a boat, we are often in a chunk that has not been rendered yet for 5 to 60 seconds before the water renders.
I recently purchased a realm to see how that affected performance. The performance seemed improved at first. After the 1.19.70 update, I am not so certain anymore. At first, two players on the realm had much better performance. Riding in a boat was smooth. Water always rendered in front of us before we reached that next chunk. Yesterday while using 1.19.70 even two players in a boat was laggy again.
The game is often unplayable especially when boats are in use. buying a realm helped a little. I think with realm the local switch doesn't have to do as much computing just rendering.
I reboot my switch sometimes. sometimes it seems like it helps. sometimes it doesn't When I open Minecraft and the initial welcome/splash screen is loading, I sometimes see lag in the background image as it moves. This makes me think there is some type of optimization that is needed for Minecraft on the Switch.
I play four-player split-screen on some Nintendo Switch FPS games without any lag. Players are running, jumping, and flying through the air at great speed without any lag. The world in these games is not fully interactive, but it isn't fully static either.
If there was a way to gather debugging information to help, I would do it.
My world size: ~35 MB.
Platform: Nintendo Switch
Game type (Digital or Card): Card
Storage (SD card or internal memory): Internal memory
the part I really hate is when I gotta wait 3 whole minutes after exiting my larger file size worlds.
Current version still utter unplayable with w players on Switch splitscreen. When we play with two players, of one person the range of the world rendered is about 300x300 blocks. Trying to get past that range is simply impossible (waiting for more than 15 minutes and still no rendering).
Splitscreen on Switch
Gamecard, saved on internal memory. One of the two accounts has a switch online account. When playing on a preferred server (e.g. Cubecraft), no lag is observed.
@@unknown, When you say no lag on preferred server vs split screen on the switch: do you mean local split screen, realm split screen, or online server split screen?
@TechGuy7 Local splitscreen. It is an account which has syncing to the Nintendo cloud on, though, i.e. save games are synced to the Nintendo cloud.
When you're trying to restart the Switch to see if that helps fix errors: Make sure you're not just sleeping the switch. That's like when you close a laptop, it doesn't really restart it and make all the programs load anew. You usually are just "sleeping" the switch when you "turn off" the Switch, so it's easy to not know how to really reboot it.
Here are Nintendo's directions on how to fully restart the switch:
Hold down the POWER Button on the top of the console for 3 seconds.
Select "Power Options" from the Power Menu that's displayed.
Select "Restart".
Nintendo says if that doesn't work:
If holding the POWER Button for 3 seconds fails to bring up the Power Menu, you can press and hold the POWER Button for at least 12 seconds to force the console to shut down.

@[mjmcacctjira|https://bugs.mojang.com/secure/ViewProfile.jspa?name=mjmcacctjira] Minecraft is the only game I've done this for routinely (ritualistically even) time & time again. Also archive then redownload, checked for corrupted data, you name it. Still a 10 minute black screen, 3-5 min loading bar (stuck on 40% as of this comment), & another 2-3 min of waiting for the auto sign-in (as mentioned in 133545).
Anyway, came here to say that, in Singleplayer, sometimes entities suffer the freeze & other times I freeze (rather the former tbph).
Game runs decently for the first 5 (ish) minutes of gameplay, then over the course of around 20 minutes begins lagging more and more often until the game crashes, and any gameplay that took place ~30 seconds before the crash isn't saved. During lag, actions performed by the player (punching, jumping, selecting items, etc) don't have any effect. However, the world still affects the player. Ex: if the game lags while I am swimming upwards in water, when the gameplay resumes, I haven't swam further upwards in the water, but I have lost air bubbles. Same issue with mobs attacking. Their hits on me load in after the lag, my hits on them don't. Lag is frequent enough that the game is basically unplayable after the first 5 ish minutes. Issue is the same on both new and old worlds, as well as multiplayer. One interesting detail is that the lag doesn't affect just worlds; it also makes the quit/settings/home menu lag, as well as the start screen.
When teleported by a player to a chunk not loaded in splitscreen, it seems suddenly the chunks are loaded correctly, crosshair stops flickering and the game runs smoothly.
There is a similar issue preventing Switch players from joining: MCPE-172980 Are any of you also experiencing the software closed error?
Minecraft on the Switch (digital version) has been experiencing bad FPS, loading times, access to the marketplace, and chunk rendering. I've had this problem for a long time, but I typically try to grin and bear it. However, every new update makes it more unplayable on the Switch. I can't walk anywhere without large missing sections. Almost five minites in, everything slows down tremendously. I've never been able to get the marketplace to work too. I don't think I need that, but it was worth mentioning that it never works. For that matter, the skins don't work either.
Since reporting this issue in the last week, I have been bounced around by Minecraft customer support. They sent me to Nintendo and now here. From a customer service background, I am just getting the run-around. I don't feel like it is the Switch; none of my other games have these issues when docked, it is just Minecraft (ironically, Minecraft Dungeons gives me issues too, but not as bad as classic Minecraft).
I have taken the previous advice from this site, Reddit, and several customer support agents over the years. Here is everything I have tried:
I contacted Nintendo per the request of Minecraft customer support, Nintendo customer support said, "we don't have any troubleshooting steps available for this type of issue that is related to the game itself. The developer has to provide you with any other troubleshooting or additional steps in order to find a solution for this issue."
I fully restarted my console from the power options in settings and selected and launched Minecraft without opening other games or apps.
I tried not signing into a Microsoft account (I wish I didn't need to anyway). Honestly, I feel like this option makes it worse. Minecraft is constantly trying to connect to something, which tanks the game performance for me. I also lose the ability to switch skins (even the ability to switch between Steve and Alex).
I deleted all of my worlds (which hurt the most) and started fresh. This solution helps until the world reaches about 30MB.
I dropped all of my settings to the most optimized and least demanding.
I am attaching screenshots of the issues. Some I could not capture with a screenshot (how do you screenshot low FPS/ lag, issues with skins, items not appearing, or loading times?), but I did capture the chunks not loading in and my settings. If I can send other images to help troubleshoot let me know.
Is there something I can do or download to improve the FPS? Is there a free texture pack on the Switch that can help with FPS similar to the PC version? Can I create a smaller world? Maybe scale back the updates? I am open to anything at this point as I would rather play the game than have it be so slow. At least give us the old Minecraft Switch edition which was made for this console. Bedrock should be allowed to be sold in this state on the Switch.
If there are any options, please let me know! I feel like Minecraft on the Switch has been unplayable since I got it three years ago, and it is just getting worse. There should be some solution now.
1.20.40 Switch OLED, Game Card
Audio delay for various blocks has significantly been reduced. New parity sounds like entering & leaving water have the same delay I've mentioned before in other numerous reports.
Autosave issues have been reduced as well, but still suffers some stuttering/hiccups at random intervals.
Game seems to always crash at least once at the loading screen to main menu transition per attempted play session.
Marketplace runs at a snail's pace. Other than that, my current experience is virtually the same as my last comment.
Resolving this issue, as the team have implemented some fixes related to the the original issue reported.
There may be ongoing tweaks to make, so feel free to report separately any new specific issues that are reproducible, and include steps to reproduce the problem, so that we can avoid having a catch-all bug that is difficult to pinpoint. Thank you for your help in this matter.

For those who are sure it is still happening: MCPE-177148
I'm having the same experience. I'm playing on a switch and every couple of minutes it will freeze. Often it is during a save game period, but not exclusively. It often happens while accessing inventory items (chests, player inventory, work stations etc.). It is very frustrating. It may or may not be related, but using nether portals takes longer than usual. In addition I have been getting messages of invalid session when closing down.
