Mobs will not go into nether portals if there is not an exit portal close enough to link

Mobs will not enter nether portals if there is no portal in the opposite dimension within range where they could exit. This is especially confusing because of the mechanics described in MCPE-39609. A player can make portal in the overworld, go through it, then on the nether side push a mob into the portal, and find that the mob will not go in.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a new world.

  2. Create a nether portal.

  3. Spawn a mob and push it into the portal.

  4. Kill the mob, then go in the portal yourself.

  5. Once in the nether, travel 100 blocks away.

  6. Create a nether portal.

  7. Spawn a mob and push it into the portal.

Expected results

The mobs goes into the portal in steps (3) and (7).

Observed results

The mobs do not go into the portals.

I went to transport villagers through the nether I made the portal in the normal world they passed through the portal normally I took them to my base in the nether where is the portal that leads to my house getting there I put them in the portal and the portal made a sound that the villagers were being teleported but they remained in the nether they were not transported to the normal world and this happened to other creatures such as wolf cats and wizards

This happened to me too, now my villager is somewhere in the nether now since I can't get him to go to the overworld.

I have the same problem, now my villagers are in nether, I will wait until the bug is fixed.

Could not reproduce. Is it still an issue in 1.20+? How did you transport your villagers? Did you use boat to help yourself move villagers through portals?

TranAran

Had this happened to me. Before, going through the Nether & out another portal was normal.

I did take note that the one who got stuck was cured while seated on a boat. Not sure if that's the cause of the bug.

There is no workaround AFAIK.

  1. Reloading/relogging doesn't work.

  2. Tried zombifying; it went through, but despawned as soon as I load in the Overworld.

  3. Zombified it, fed it a gold apple, & let it through while it's curing; same result.

  4. Tried Method 3 again, but with a nametag and/or held item; doesn't appear in Overworld, but instantly cured when I returned to the Nether. The Villager still can't go to the Overworld.

  5. Broke & relit the portal; nothing.

  6. Built another portal; zilch.

Ainiii

I am experiencing the same issue. I wanted to transport my villager through the nether using carts but when my villager reaches my base, it despawns a minute later and I find him back in the nether.

GoldenHelmet

Ainiii and possibly some other commenters are experiencing MCPE-174930.

As per ADO, closing as design.
It is by design that mobs can't create new portals if there hasn't been one made yet. Players need to go through the portal first to create the portal on the other side, then mobs can go through the portal.

With incident MCPE-174930 it is possible for the entity to create portals, if you destroy its portal another one is created in another location when it teleports, this is actually contradictory.

Invisible826

Now MC-151648 has been fixed in Java Edition 24w21a, creating a parity issue.

Yarost

Until the bug is fixed, you can use a second account.

  1. You need to place a second account in the location from which the mob / villager enters Nether through the portal, and the main account - at the exit of this portal in Nether.

  2. With the help of the second account, you need to push the resident into the portal. When he teleports to the other side, the account must be left active in AFK to load the territory In the Upper World.

  3. Use the main account to transfer the villager to Nether. He should teleport to another portal without any problems. Since the first portal is immersed by the second account, the transfer bug should not occur.

The method can also be used over a local network, in addition to logging in on Xbox.
