MCPE-170425

Mobs teleport back to a nether portal several seconds after they came out of it

I WILL NOT BE UPDATING THIS IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE I AM GETTING RID OF MY SWITCH

Steps to Reproduce:
step 1 - create world with seed 8609191581245315983
step 2 - create nether portal at -1 67 -15 in overworld
step 3 - create nether portal at -3246 95 -2910 in overworld
step 4 - take horse into nether through one portal and out the other
step 5 - wait for horse to teleport back to portal
step 6 - if nothing happens try repeating step 4 or try leave and rejoin the world

Observed Results:
after taking mobs through a nether portal they sometimes teleport back to the portal. after following them through the portal and loading their chunks, they sometimes teleport back to where they originally were.

Expected Results:
for them to not teleport.

Notes:
this sometimes triggered when i log back into my world, dismount or have the pet dismount me, or sometimes would just happen when i'm nearby not even interacting with them.
i also recreated this on my android phone.

The first video,

[media]

can be explained by MCPE-146959 / MCPE-42310: the horse loads in the nether, exits the portal, then walks back in and gets sent to the overworld, all before the player's screen loads the nether. Note that the player's screen takes about 20 seconds to load the nether. During that time the nether is actually loaded and mobs are active.

hi @GoldenHelmet i agree that MCPE-146959 & MCPE-42310 are an issue and they do appear in the videos i provided but that is not the bug i am reporting.

my video lacks context due to the limitations of the switch's recording capabilities and an oversight on my behalf. i realised my phone can constantly record and i have made three videos showing the issue in more detail.

[media]

shows a very minor but i think very relevant teleport. this occurs a few seconds after existing the nether. the horse has wandered while the player loads into the world but then teleports back to the nether portal almost immediately.

[media]

shows a horse entering a portal but when the player follows through the portal the horse is gone. the horse is then found at another portal.
i would suggest that this is very similar to what is happening in video 1 but the horse is teleporting to a different portal to the one it just existed this time.

[media]

shows a horse teleporting to a nearby portal and immediately being transferred into the overworld.
i am quite confident in this as i previously had pressure plates that would be activated by the horse when it teleports like this but have removed them to prevent the possibility of the horse entering and exiting the portal while the player loads as you described.

Is this still an issue in the latest version? If yes, can you please add it to the affected versions (or mention it if you are not the reporter)?

@unknown: I think you are experiencing exactly the report MCPE-174930. Due to the fact that entities teleport when a ride is interrupted. As shown

[media]

parrot returns to the portal why the ride was interrupted which was caused by the player. Also in the video

[media]

and

[media]

it is shown that the horse is teleported to the portal but does not enter due to the mechanic that an entity must not touch the portal for at least 15 seconds for them to pass through the portal.

Updated steps from@unknown. I confirm that this issues, as shown in

[media]

.I want to emphasize that the report is experiencing MCPE-174930.This issue is resolved if the portals are linked correctly, this could be a temporary solution to not wait for the correction of this, for more information see (https://minecraft.wiki/w/Nether_portal).

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open

[media]
  1. Enter the portal with the horse

/tp @s -11 18 -15
  1. Press the TP HORSE and TP PLAYER command block button

  2. wait a few seconds. For the horse to teleport to the portal where it is supposed to appear

Observed results:
the horse appears in another portal. From step (4) MCPE-174930 is being experienced where the entity is teleported to its portal where it should appear. This is because when the horse enters the portal from step (2) the horse suffers an attraction to the another portal then when it approaches its portal of origin it teleports to that portal.

Expected results:
The horse does not suffer an attraction to the other portal, therefore it stays in the portal of origin where it is supposed to appear.

Some cases described in comments on MCPE-66818 may have been due to this bug. I recall people at the time losing horses and then strangely finding them days later.

Looks like this was originally reported in MCPE-22340.

I do not agree that MCPE-174930 is part of this bug. That issue has to do with a rider teleporting back to a portal (after the ride breaks). With this bug the ride (the horse) may teleport. However, this teleporting is not directly triggered by riding. It seems to a result of the horse being sent to the wrong exit portal. I have been able to reproduce the horse going to the wrong exit portal by pulling the horse into the entrance portal with a lead. So, it is not riding, but the horse that is essential here.

the discussion in the comments of this report are focusing on an issue that is not the focus of my report. the title/summary of my report has been updated by a mod to reflect the comments interpretation instead of my actual report.
what my report focuses on is "mobs teleporting back to a previously used nether portal". originally i did include the issue of "nether portals linking incorrectly when horse uses them" because i saw both issues as a single issue of "mobs locations getting messed up in relation to nether portals" but i now realise that they are two separate issues.
to avoid having multiple bugs in the same report, i edited the report and removed mention of the "nether portals linking incorrectly when horse uses them" issue. regardless of this, everybody is still focusing on that because the issue occurs in some of the provided evidence. for example; "horse doesn't appear after going through portal.mp4" and "video 2.mp4". the rest of the evidence however, is showing the "mobs teleporting back to a previously used nether portal" issue.
the "mobs teleporting back to a previously used nether portal" issue is pretty much exclusive to nintendo switch although i did get a mild recreation of it on my android phone (video 1.mp4). i speculate that this is intended behaviour to help players not lose mobs after they go through a portal (mob loads in and starts wandering, once the player loads in, the mob teleports back to the portal so that the player doesn't lose the mob) but when it's an underpowered device like the switch, this event is delayed significantly and causes the mob to seemingly disappear if the player is no longer at the portal. the "mobs teleporting back to a previously used nether portal" issue potentially happens on multiple platforms but is only a "problem" on nintendo switch in my testing.

Kepling: I’ve restored your original title/summary. I have made a separate report for horses going to the wrong portal: MCPE-175546.

In (

[media]

) it is shown that the entity teleports in the overworld when the player is still in the portal with his portal animation and he is not riding in the overworld as the problem occurs in the overworld so the problem is not triggered by riding but only It is a containment method so that the entity does not teleport, clearly what was seen in https://bugs.mojang.com/secure/attachment/543334/lv_0_20230704153515.mp4 of the report MCPE-172617 occurred so this should not be mounted , what you see in MCPE-172617 is something extremely difficult to see and reproduce without a boat/minecart or riding. All cases of teleportation have something north-west in common.Previously I gave community consensus but just because the entity appears on the wrong portal there is now a report about that.

GoldenHelmet

I was able to reproduce this in the attached test world by setting simulation distance to 12 and render distance to 32 on a PC with an i5-6500 processor and GTX 750ti graphics card. The bug seems to be related to the terrain being not fully loaded when the player comes out of the portal. As such, it will reproduce more easily on weaker devices or with very high render distance settings.

[media]

This may occur with players in a multiplayer world as well, as MCPE-179336 seems similar.
