Summary:
Players can spawn into a world and take damage before the world has finished loading, or before the player has fully joined a multiplayer world. This can result in players dying before they are able to move to safety.
Steps to Reproduce:
Spawn a zombie
Enter survival mode
Leave the world
Join the world again
Observed Results:
The player rejoins in the middle of an attack, with a different amount of health than from when they last left the world, suggesting that the zombie had free hits on the player.
Expected Results:
Players should not die or take damage before they have fully joined the world.

I'm not sure if this is the same issue or not, but I have noticed that players are vulnerable/attackable for a while before any loading screen disappears, whether it's loading a new world or going between dimensions. Just now a few magma cubes went through the portal back to my base, and when I went back through the portal myself, I started getting attacked by the magma cubes and was completely defenseless for several seconds while the pesky loading screen was still up. I nearly died to that. I just want to check if that's what this issue is about before I go creating another ticket that could be marked as a duplicate.

The seed -572946855 no longer moves the player when spawning in, but mobs can still attack, move, and kill players before the player can see the world.
Steps to Reproduce
Spawn a zombie
Enter survival mode
Leave the world
Join the world again
Here, the player will rejoin in the middle of an attack, likely with a different amount of health than from when they last left the world, suggesting that the zombie had free hits on the player.

Same issue with me, my screen stays on "Loading Recources" for like five minutes when opening a world but then my brother can join and hit me and kill me before it even loads up for me.

I am running Minecraft on a Nintendo Switch, version 1.16.221. My friend got lost in a dark forest when there were 2 zombies, and "A communication error ocurred, please try again later" kicked him out, then when he rejoined I got a death message saying he was killed by a zombie, then on his end he got a "You Died" screen. My friend is also playing Minecraft on a switch.

It does not have to be multiplayer, to recreate in a single player world use drowning.

I made a report on a similar topic, but I covered entities and effects rendering in the world before I was fully in the world, and the game would continue on for a split few seconds whilst I had just left the game. I find it funny that this post was linked as a duplicate, because I thought that I had clearly made a post that covered entities and effects loading before the host not just players that are not the host.
I will leave a link to said post here:
MCPE-136470

Ethan: Although the original description made the special distinction of this happening when the hosting player joins, we know from similar bugs in the past that the hosting player does not enjoy any special status when it comes to joining a world. The game loads the world and gets the simulation running before it starts accepting join requests from anybody, so there isn't really any distinction between the host and any other player.
Incidentally, your own report's summary, "Make the pause menu actually pause the game", has the sound of a suggestion. Suggestions should be submitted on the Feedback site, but also, that suggestion isn't likely to be adopted because you can't pause the world when there are other players in it: That would be confusing and annoying to them. It might be possible to pause a single-player world, but it would require a difference between the modes that currently doesn't exist and would be technically complicated to implement. It could also confuse the player, since it's not necessarily easy to know which mode a world is in when you're inside it.

When I load a new world & the spawn is in water, I spawn in dead or about to die from drowning. It's like even though I'm still loading up the world the game has already placed me. This has happened multiple times.

Bug still present in Bedrock 1.18.2, joining player can take damage in the world before the world has even loaded on their screen.

Same problem in bedrock 1.19.31, when i enter a nether portal, during the loading screen a hostile mob is head attacking me and taking hearts away from me, sometimes i appear directly dead, i have already lost valuable items because of this problem

Also happens when entering/leaving the Nether. I have a pretty robust and laggy world, and was killed by a zombie while wearing full diamond armor when trying to enter my Nether highway. Can't retrieve my stuff either because I always just get killed in the loading screen.

My husband & I play in a single player world on PS4 & our portals started making a weird, almost clicking sort of sound when we passed through them & taking a while to spawn us in at the next place about a week or so ago. I remembered when this portal issue originally came up last year so I got nervous & lo & behold, tonight it failed to load the Nether at all. After waiting about 5min, I saved it & closed out & went back in. When my husband spawned in he was falling through a soul sand valley. He landed in a lava lake & died. Our portal actually is under a soul sand valley (Y15), so I’m not sure how he ended up above it…

Nintendo Switch Platform | version 1.19.51
While the game is transporting you to the Nether, you can take damage (and die) from hostile mobs while it is still loading. Load times are significant on the Nintendo Switch version.
Scenario:
Enter the Nether portal from the Overworld.
While the loading screen is still up, you hear a Ghast, it fires at you, and you die before the loading screen ever finishes.
Try to re-enter the Nether to collect everything you just lost and apparently the Ghast broke a block that spewed lava over the portal and all you hear is you taking damage and dying from the lava before the loading screen ever finishes.
Now you are unable to enter the Nether and you were never given an opportunity to begin with due to taking damage and dying before the Nether dimension ever loaded for gameplay.
This is a disheartening bug. Significant load times can be tolerated; however, the issue here is, you are able to take damage (and die) before the gameplay is even loaded.

I haven't touched Minecraft for several months because of this bug. I used to play every day. Why is this not higher on the priority list? It's game-breaking!

This happened to me with a nether portal. Also, I sometimes hear footsteps while the world is loading in a nether portal? That didn't happen in some previous versions.

This has been an issue since I started playing in 2019, it's a game breaking bug.
If you join a PVP world, you can't do anything while getting killed. By the time you load into the world, you respawn because you got killed.

Please upvote this issue as it matches your experience: MCPE-167848

This is happening to me on Minecraft PE v 1.19.63, on iPhone 13, iOS 16.3.1.
Steps for me:
My generated world, on my local iPhone, Survival mode, Difficulty Normal, based on seed -1968188527
Have long established Portal
I try entering portal
I see "generating terrain"
Before the nether resolves, I hear sounds of taking hit damage
I die in the Portal, my stuff is scattered on the lip of the portal in the overworld
My multiplayer guests also experience the same behavior.

I'm about to quit Bedrock Edition because of this issue. I can't even enter the Nether because every portal I make is surrounded by Magma Cubes and I'm dead before the world even finishes loading in.
Bedrock Edition Windows 11

Another issue that exists with the Nether in Minecraft bedrock edition I noticed is sometimes the Nether portal isn't even safe to walk out of, this has caused major issues for friends on my worlds as sometimes they would walk into a Nether portal, come out the other side in the Nether and then fall straight into lava before they had a chance to notice what was going on.
It shouldn't even be possible for Nether portals to generate on cliffsides, how is a player even supposed to know? and unless they were lucky enough to obtain it from a Witch they will not have a fire resistance potion to survive the lava either. You don't get to potion brewing status until you had completed the quest in obtaining blaze rods, fuel for the brewing stands, soul sand and netherwart for the awkward potions. Much of where you end up with Nether portals is guesswork for the player, which isn't good enough, Nether portals need to be made fair and dependable so players know what they're up against as soon as they enter.

In my game, I have restored a ruined nether portal in survival mode (vanilla Minecraft). It is directly between a village and the desert. After I enter the portal, it goes to the generating world screen (as it should), but after a few seconds, it appears to load the nether chunk in the background. I am able to hear the sounds in the nether, but I cannot see the nether. The generating world screen is still showing. I then hear damage sounds. When the generating world screen finally disappears, the screen changes to the death screen. If I do not wear gold armor, it immediately says that I was killed by a piglin. If I wear gold armor, it says that I was killed by a Husk. The husks must of traveled from the desert into my portal. I cannot currently move my portal due to only having one severely damaged diamond pickaxe which will be destroyed before I manage to mine all the obsidian blocks.
What is expected to happen:
I travel through the portal, the game shows the world generating screen, the screen goes away (and shows me in the nether), then the mobs start attacking me once I am actually in the nether.
What happens:
I am killed by mobs before I even appear in the nether.
– From my duplicate ticket
... This needs to be fixed asap. I cannot even visit the nether.

A workaround for the Nether Portal bug is to first send an iron golem through the portal. Then, after a few more attempts of travelling through the portal and dying, I finally made it to the Nether safely. The iron golem will eventually clear out all dangerous mobs. You just have to travel through the portal a few times so that the chunk will load and the iron golem can start killing.

Affects 1.20.20.23 preview

It's strange because when you finally load the world and die you click respawn and you are instantly back in the overworld, not waiting for it to load. Please sort this bug as looking at the other posts this has been around for a very long time.
Kind Regards

Mojang, this is a game breaking bug that has been a thing for years. Maybe add some sort of invincibility to the player while they can't control the game on a portal. Will saying this has basically ruined the reputation of the bedrock edition on the internet will bring you to fix it?

True, this problem really is a problem! Sometimes I enter a world, mobs that were close to me almost "kill" me (or "kill me") before I can even do something!
Or I also "drown" in the water even when I had a lot of oxygen bubbles when I left the game. Perhaps the solution would be to create a mechanic that:
When the player is on the loading screen, everything that would be being processed, modified by the game's time, is paused, frozen, even the player. When loading ends for less than a second, the game stops processing everything again, and the loading screen disappears.

This happens in Java on servers too-- I wasn't sure if a separate bug report for that exists already so I just decided to comment here
@unknown Please create a report for Java edition. Search before you make it incase it does already exist.

This bug is still happening as of v1.20.51. I literally cannot enter my Nether Portal anymore since the Magma Cubes will always kill me before I can see or control my character. THIS BUG MAKES THE GAME UNPLAYABLE AND SHOULD BE GIVEN HIGH PRIORITY.

Maybe they should give invincibility to the player before they move or press any button.

Bro this happens to me so much on my OWN PERSONAL SURVIVAL. When I go through the nether portal. I cannot enter my Nether Portal anymore since any hostile mob can kill me before I can see or control my anything. It just stays stuck on the "Building Terrain" screen while the mob just kills me. It makes it almost impossible to go to the nether if there are any hostile mobs around. I hope that Mojang fixes this bug soon, as it makes the game 10 times harder to play. They should make the nether load faster or give the player invincibility until they move or do anything.

I know this isn't a fix but have you tried taking an invisibility potion before going through?

No, but using invis is rather expensive to do every time you go through a portal

Hopefully this gets fixed before Bedrock Hardcore is released. I've made sure to vote for this.

I agree. I really hope this is fixed before Hardcore Bedrock, otherwise I will be unable to get a hardcore world going

this is still happening in version 1.20.65 and 1.20.72. Not sure even how a monster can spawn and I literally sealed all corners of the portal and placed torches. is it hard to fix? couldn't be something like this?
void apply_damage_to_player() {
if (game.status === "building_terrain") {
return;
}
...
}

I don't understand why Mojang doesn't fix this bug. This is clearly a major problem that hasn't been fixed for many updates. This bug has affected me so much in my survival world, and I don't know how we can be able to get a hardcore world going with this bug. They could make it as simple as giving the player a short span of invincibility when they login to the world and when they go through nether portals. MOJANG PLS FIX THIS BUG!!!!

Not urge Mojang to fix this problem? It's been a problem for over 5 years, at this point I don't think they can be accused of rushing anything.

i have never experienced this bug but lets all hope this gets fixed before bedrock hardcore tho

This bug just happened to me on PS5 while I was in a friend’s world He went afk for a while and his game turned off when he got back on and I joined the world it said I was dead and all of my items disappeared before I could recover them Please fix this bug soon

Absolutely needs to be a priority fix for hardcore mode Mojang.

Can confirm, nearly died in my survival world due to this and my spawn point was 17500 blocks away
I hope this gets fixed before Hardcore Mode comes to the Bedrock Edition full release

And just like that, years later, this has been fixed once and for all in 1.21.10.22 Preview just in time before hardcore mode. Shows Mojang is completely capable of fixing bugs like this in a decent time period when they put down the effort to. Thank you, this issue affected the game for years and was going to have a huge impact on hardcore mode had it not been fixed.

I can see a glimpse of a bug-free bedrock in the horizon.

@unknown: You might notice that the creator of this report is Mega_Spud, who is a Community Manager for Mojang. They were always aware that there have been a bunch of wrongful death issues that they had to fix before implementing Hardcore mode in Bedrock. In fact, they asked us Mojira staff a couple of months ago if we could find any other reports documenting unfixed issues that could cause a hardcore permadeath. So you can rest assured that they've done the best they could to clean up all these undeserved deaths.

@Auldrick nowhere in my comment was I dissing Mojang nor their ability to fix wrongful death bugs. In fact, I was praising them for fixing this issue because it would've had an extremely negative impact on hardcore mode had it still been around for the official release of hardcore. And I said that Mojang is VERY MUCH capable of fixing these death issues that have existed for years when the effort is actually put in. It wasn't a diss, and I wish you didn't take it that way.
Hardcore overall is going to have a very positive impact on the quality and stability of the game as these death issues that have been around for years will finally see fixes as Mojang now has more motive to fix them.
I do nothing but applaud and thank Mojang. I know developing a game is not easy, bugs aren't always easy to fix, and developers are human, they are not perfect and they make mistakes just like the rest of us.

@unknown: I didn't take it as a diss, and I wasn't trying to rebuke you. Sorry you were offended, I was really just trying to let everybody know that even though sometimes it seems like getting a bug fixed takes a very long time, in many cases it's because it relates to something that's coming that we users don't know anything about. It seems like Mojang takes a lot of heat for being slow sometimes, and I understand that people get frustrated waiting, but I believe in the devs and the company and I like to share that faith and encourage an open-minded perspective–like the one you obviously have. Again, please don't take what I said as personal criticism. Maybe I shouldn't have addressed it to you specifically, sorry.

@Auldrick It's completely all good and zero hard feelings, it was just a misunderstanding on both of our ends. And I have a question, was it made PUBLIC information (prior to your comment to me) that Mojang is actually officially setting out to fix these long existing death bugs before the official release of hardcore? If so, I never saw that, and regardless, I'm extremely happy they are. I always thought it was more-so just hopeful speculation and an assumption made by us as the community because it only made the most sense.

I'm not aware that there was any official announcement, but I don't think they had any reason to keep it a secret either. Doing what's necessary to avoid ruining people's worlds is just what they do because they don't want people to be unhappy with their product. It's similar to something in a booklet they published internally but which was shared publicly within the last year: The game should never intentionally do something bad to a player that the player can't prevent or avoid using caution. (I'm paraphrasing.)

I am unfortunately unable to advance in minecraft if I can't go through a nether portal without getting killed

I had this problem on Nintendo Switch. Going through a portal (Nether specifically) was just asking to die while the world was loading unless you set it to peaceful beforehand or did intense spawn-proofing.
I recently bought a realm and uploaded my world. Load times suddenly had Efficiency 5 levels of speed and seemingly fixed this problem for me.
I just wish there was a better solution that didn't involve changing difficulty or needing a paid service. The casual player may not know what a realms subscription is or afford one (or convince their parents to buy one).

This can usually be prevented by placing blocks around yourself before logging off; however, on the first nether entry, players sometimes go directly from the loading screen to the death screen.

We have it happening on our SMP realm all the time to the point we are all carrying Fire Resist potions just to travel from over world to nether via the HUB systems. It happening even to some players in flight when chunks are slow loading and flying through the walk ways into the lava under pathways, and upon loading into the nether from the over world into calculated nether HUB portals over lava lakes with safe walk ways over the pools.
