External addons disable achievements

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Go to create new world screen

  2. Apply an addon

Observed Result

The game shows a "You can't earn achievements" warning because “An external behavior pack was activated“. This issue also retroactively affects previously created worlds that had addons that originally did not disable achievements. The changelogs don’t mention this if it was an intended change

Expected Result

Worlds using addons correctly configured with the "product_type": "addon" metadata should not disable achievements

This was an intended change. It was not mentioned in the changelog because it was considered an exploit.

I’m experiencing the same issue after updating to Bedrock 26.50.

However, I was still able to earn achievements with the same external behavior pack around version 26.45. The achievements only became disabled after updating to 26.50.

Could you clarify whether this behavior was intentionally introduced in 26.50? If so, why was it not mentioned in the 26.50 changelog?

Please vote for this to let them change it back

This is unfair. My Inventory sorter behavior helps sort items in chests. Now that warrants disabling achievements? Nah.... Mojang need to revert this or allow some sort of a vetting process.

This is such an stupid decision, and to not comunicate anyone cuz its an exploit? So people now have disbled achievements in their worlds for using a sceipt that makes shulkers have colorful UIs? The comunication of this company is pathetic.

@legendary_creeper , though the official Minecraft website:

https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/achievements-now-work-with-add-ons

Says that all addons qualify for achievements, only all addons within the Minecraft Marketplace are allowed achievements. The site said external addons cannot qualify for achievements.

Taken from the article:

If I use a mod that isn't from Minecraft Marketplace, does that also qualify for earning achievements?

No, only add-ons that are released via Minecraft Marketplace will allow achievements to be enabled. We do this to protect our players and avoid any mods that would allow you to unfairly earn a large number of achievements in a short period of time.

The term “mod” in this case as stated from the article is an external behaviour pack.

I am more confused as to why they originally allowed achievements with add ons, since they change the behavior of the game. Even seemingly fine add ons (like a furniture add on I had played with a while back) can cause problems, if they have bugs. I had managed to find an invincibility glitch with that furniture add on (due to the fact that the telescope in there would give resistance while using it)). For some add ons, it may be fine, but the vetting process would have to be quite time consuming, to make sure the add on has no major exploits in it, and it may be hard to decide what counts as cheating with an add on.
