Taking damage is sometimes negated by natural regeneration.

Reproduction:

-Stay underwater until you start taking damage.

-Set yourself on fire or jump in lava.

-Jump off more than 4 blocks off the ground.

The player will sometime experience no damage when a few ticks of damage passes.

Perhaps due to natural regeneration.

I think is the same when some blocks disappear after placed in multiplayer but this is fixed in 1.7.0.5 beta.

Still happening in 1.14.60.

You can survive underwater infinitely with this glitch by going into peaceful. Confirmed for 1.16.100.50 and 1.16.10.

This happens when the game attempts to both damage and heal the player at the same time (probably in the same tick)

@unknown Is totally right. I turned off natural regeneration and it was working as intended. No pauses no matter the case.

This isn't just natural regeneration, this is any form of health gain. Unless an attack is strong enough to kill you in one shot, something like regeneration 6 and up, or something like continuous instant health, makes you invulnerable.

This might be patched.

No ticking delay seems to occur at all when taking drowning/fire damage.

Is this the case for anyone else?

Tested in 1.19.51 Hotfix with fire and it does seem to be fixed. I can see natural regeneration add a half-heart of health back that then gets taken away by the fire damage, where before it would skip the damage when the regeneration happened.

This was probably fixed in 1.18.30 with the overhaul of damage calculations.
