Cats are not spawning in my village

If you go to far so another village generates (has to generate, not just be active), then cats will spawn in it.

When I created a new world all of a sudden a player left the game.  His name was around Tele80.  That's all I can remember.

I've played around 10 hours in my world. Mostly within a village. When I arrived there were 3 cats. I tamed 2 before the third despawned. That was within the first hour of play. No strays have spawned since. And I have been in and out and every left to travel around for a while.

In my world I found cats in two towns that were being generated post-update, however I recently visited at least seven "older" towns looking for cats, and found none. I have at least three of those towns are in base areas where I spend a large amount of time, so I would expect to see an excess of them just as we see new foals on Horse Island and new calves on Sheep Island all the time.

In Windows 10 version 1.8.1 survival mode it also has this problem. After about 10 hours of play of hours of play I explored to find a village. There were cats in the village when I found it. This was after not sleeping for many days. I didn't tame any of the stray cats then. The next day, no stray cats. After several hours, stray cats appeared one day. This was also after several days not sleeping and phantoms appeared the previous night. That day I tamed two. I didn't count the days that had passed but it must have been 30+ days. Since the second occurrence of stray cats the village was extensively upgraded, fences and light and the village grown to the point of self spawning an iron golem, but I have never seen another stray cat. I tried not sleeping for 5 days, thinking that phantoms might need to exist first, since cats repel phantoms, but this tactic didn't pan out. Still no more stray cats. I hope this heps devs track the causes or helps players figure out a workaround.

As I already said: this is still an issue in 1.9.0 in my old survival world in our Realm. I still have not seen any cats in any village I visited so far.

Same here on Switch in villages I have already explored. I found cats in villages where I hadn't explored.

Yep despite the changelog for 1.9 still no cats in old villages. I spent about 4 mine craft days or so around an old village and not a single cat came up.

I still have that issue in 1.10 but only in realms! When I use the same world locally cats do actually spawn. That's why I'm confused this thread is still open but the realms specific one (https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/REALMS-1540 is closed oô. Seems to be a realms issue.

Cats don't spawn in old villages, only in new ones. With the upcoming 1.11 update, cats will spawn per 4 villagers with beds claimed.

@Kevin actually as of 1.9.3 (I think) they are SUPPOSED to spawn in Old villages (read a few change logs)

@Shelly Hardic not true. The cat respawning mechanics have been added in 1.11, and there is nothing about cats in any of the 1.9 betas.

1.11.0.4 changelog: "some world seeds may have villages generate in different areas than they used to before this update". If you happen to have one of those seeds, your old villages may no longer be where the game would generate a village, and therefore cats, any more. For myself, my survival world generates cats in old villages (though only on roofs!).

while that might also be a bug and related to the problem, that's for sure not the main problem.

I have the same world in my realm and copied it locally. When I use it in my realm, no cats spawn ANYWHERE at all. When I open the same world locally with experimental gameplay turned on, suddenly cats spawn in the same villages. So there must be something on, maybe it's related to experimental gameplay or maybe it's related to realms also.

L@auldrick my game (Realm) is 1.10 so the 1.11 changes wouldn't effect my current villages.

@Shelly Hardic I'm 100% sure that line was put there by accident, because I follow every big change a beta version does and that has never been mentioned until the second 1.11 beta.
