Simply put, the Ender Dragon is entirely immune to melee damage, making the fight fairly awkward
Steps to Reproduce
Enter the end in Creative or Survival
Wait for the Dragon to land on the center perch
Attempt to hit it with any melee weapon
Expected Outcome
Dragon takes damage
What actually happens
The dragon doesn't even trigger the "hit" sound, implying the player's hits don't even register. Though, arrows work flawlessly
Other notes
It should be noted that this bug has been in effect since 1.7, when the dragon was made immune to thrown tridents when perched. Perhaps a thrown trident mistakingly is registered as melee damage rather than projectile?

Are you able to add any information about what could have triggered the issue? It doesn't appear to be an issue in 1.8 in worlds that we have tested. Are you using any add-ons?

I am not using any addons, the world I'm in has been created since 1.7.1, if that means anything. I have noticed it's fairly inconsistent. Perhaps it's related to the damage caused when a crystal is destroyed while healing the dragon, or if the dragon is shot with an arrow shortly before perching, otherwise, I'm not sure.
Luckily CtClunker was able to capture footage of this bug, in 1.9 even! Some sort of issue is still around that allows the dragon to not take damage🙂
