Sleeping in a bed while standing in a Nether portal can move the player thousands of blocks when returning to the over world, depending on how far the player is from spawn.
Set "Show Coordinates" to on.
Build a Nether portal more than 256 blocks from origin (0, ~, 0) in the over world, with the base obsidian at ground level.
Place a bed along side the portal so that it is next to the portal blocks, within reach of the player.
Enter the portal to make sure a new portal is created in the Nether.
Return to the over world.
Be sure you are in Survival mode.
Wait until it is night.
Enter the portal and click the bed.
When the player wakes up they will find they are in a new portal at the same coordinates as their new over world spawn point, except in the Nether.
Leave the portal for a few seconds for portal cool down.
Return through the portal to the over world.
Expected: Player should leave the portal and sleep.
Actual: The portal sequence continues while the sleep sequence also plays. Then the player is placed at the newly set spawn point, except in the Nether, in a newly created Nether portal frame. Returning through this new nether portal will take the player 8 times the distance from their spawn point in the over world.

Just happened to me(7000 blocks of walking coming)
affects beta 1.15.0.56

Happend to me and the worst thing no new portal generated 😞

Can confirm in 1.16.201 on Android!

Happened to me, and had no choice but to teleport myself back to spawn as i dont really feel like walking 1678 blocks.

My friend experienced this before and thought nothing of it but when I have full netherite it is quite frustrating, this bug has been in the game for at least 2 years. Please fix it!!!

Please do not fix this. it is very useful and is totally an intended feature

Can anyone reproduce in 1.17.10?

found out mine was a duplicate even though this didn’t come up in a search :/ anyways can confirm affects 1.19.51
i mined 1700 blocks of pain, and even though i sort of agree with the person who said don’t fix it because it can be useful, i keep forgetting and doing it, so my cramped industrial district would thank you if you fixed this mojang :]

(Copied from my duplicate thread, comment from me)
This happened in a realm, but from my testing, in a world you teleport there, but eventually you come back to the portal, for some reason.

This bug still works in 1.19.6 but no other portal will be generated only the player is teleported at the same coordinates he was in the overworld

Why hasn't this very serious bug been fixed in 4 years? This allows players to teleport, which is completely non-vanilla. I think should pay more attention to this bug.

Confirmed in 1.20.50.
You will teleport to the same coord in the nether as you sleep in the overworld and don't spawn a new nether portal.
If your y≤0, you will teleport into the void of the nether and die.
If your y≥128, you will teleport to the roof of the nether.
If 0< your y <128,you will teleport into the same X and Z as in overworld and no new nether portals will spawn. You might suffocate in a wall or burn in the lava.
You may create a new portal to the overworld and repeat some times to go to over 1 million blocks away from (0,0).

This is because a sleeping player's coords will become the same coord as the bed's coord when they get up , even in the nether.

I’m so sad this was removed! it was a great way to sneak out to my base 100k blocks away… there should be some easter-egg way to still do this…
