When I died I wasn’t even using a trident. I was flying really fast with my elytra into an unloaded chunk while it was raining and started taking damage over time until I died mid air. Very tough because I lost all my good stuff.
I have noticed this too, but just flying with fireworks. Flying into unloaded chunks just kills you, and the elytras that you had to work so hard to get, and maybe your full diamond protection four armour gets lost somewhere in the middle of nowere, very frustrating.
I thought that this was meant to be fixed in the upcoming update. Maybe I was wrong, but when I was playing on my Realm (1.14.0), this happened to me and my loot wasn't even there so I had to restore my world. It still appears to be happening even in the betas. Maybe this fix is on its way and will be rolled out as part of a later beta or the actual official 1.16.0 update.
@Theo SM The beta fix version is shown at the top of this ticket. That fix will be included in the 1.16 release version whenever that comes.
Can confirm something similar is happening on the PS4 version, update 1.16.1.
The game simply cannot render chunks fast enough when flying with elytra. Scary enough in the Overworld, but absolutely treacherous when flying in the End. This has already resulted in me somehow, and seemingly without explanation, plummeting into the void. With elytra being so rare, this really makes me not want to venture out into the End anymore... and almost makes the game feel unplayable.
Maybe the unloaded chunks are treated as solid to prevent mobs from walking into them and then getting overwritten when the chunk loads.
