Iron golems not spawning

Workaround

If iron golems are not spawning in your village, please review the updated iron golem spawning information for Bedrock Edition on the wiki. For more detailed guidance on iron farms, see the Bedrock section of the Iron Golem Farming Tutorial.

  • A frequent cause of iron golem spawns ceasing is that some villagers stop working. This can happen unexpectedly due to MCPE-46157. The best way to work around that bug in an iron farm is keep all of the villagers in a single chunk.

  • In some cases you may need to break and replace workstations in order to get villagers to work at them, due to a workstation linking bugs. (MCPE-62080 / MCPE-56889)

Please keep in mind that the bug tracker is not designed to provide design advice or troubleshooting for builds. If you need help with an iron farm, you should visit the wiki pages linked above or reach out to the player community. Many of the users who create tutorials for farms will answer questions in comment sections or in their own Discord servers. You may also discuss builds on the Minecraft Discord.

Iron golems sometimes don’t spawn when a player has done everything he can to get a village to meet all requirements for iron golems to be spawned. In particular,

  1. Villagers may not be able to claim workstations in order to meet the work requirement due to MCPE-49580.

  2. Beds in the village may not be counted due to MCPE-49580.

  3. Villagers may link to workstations incompletely, making the villager unable to either work or link to a new workstation, and making the workstation unavailable to other villagers. This is the precursor to MCPE-56889 and MCPE-62080.

  4. Some villagers (Farmers, Fishermen, and Librarians) will not work in the rain, unless their workstation is sheltered by a solid block.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Minecraft Bedrock Beta 1.15.0.56 on a Windows 10 Pro PC v. 1909 Build 18363.720

2. Create world seed: Coastal Village (-1813740965); Survival Mode; Normal Difficulty; Infinite Size; world must be created after Beta v1.15.0.54 through Beta v1.15.0.56.

3. Find plains village at x=1062 y=63 z=116, Download Link to Test World

Observed results:

No iron golems in a village which meets the criteria described here: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Iron_Golem#Villages

Expected results:

In Bedrock Edition, an iron golem can spawn naturally when a village first generates in the world or when 3 villagers come in close contact of zombieshusksdrowneds or zombie villagers. Iron golems also spawn in villages having at least 21 beds and 10 villagers, in a 16×6×16 volume around the village center defined by a bed, a bell, or another meeting point. The chance of spawning is ^1^⁄~7000~ per game tick, which averages to one every 5 minutes and 50 seconds. Iron golems can spawn provided the blocks it spawns in are non-solid and the block it spawns on has a solid flat top surface.

I hope the above information is sufficient for this issue to be researched.  I did not Create another bug report because I felt it would duplicate this one. Best wishes😉

Thanks Bubba.

Based on your description and the test world it looks like you're expecting Golems using the 1.14 spawn rules in 1.15.

Per the patch notes "Increased Iron Golem spawn rate and modified spawn rules". Golems now require villagers to have workstations for the golems to spawn to bring it closer to Java. However I believe to compensate for the increased difficulty the number of beds needed is lower (don't quote me on that).

Could you try making sure your villagers all have workstations and see if the issue persists?

Ionic

Edit: Just went searching for it and this was the video I saw it mentioned, don't know if we have an official source for the changes. https://youtu.be/hNda0BAqtGg?t=774

@IonicEcko, I posted the wrong link for my test world shown above. I have corrected the link in my previous post.  The village shown in the coordinates had 2 Golems. It now has none. There are workstations in the village.  There is a village at x=1370 y=71 z=138 which is near the aforementioned village. It has multiple Golems and workstations, but there are more villagers than workstations. Also, many of the villagers will not take jobs regardless of the number of available workstations. I am subscribed to navynexus' channel, so I have seen the video you described.  There appears to be an inconsistency in the logic which generates Golems in Beta v. 1.15.0.54 thru v. 1.16.0.51.

FYI villagers not taking workstations is due to another bug, MCPE-49580. Just a guess, but it may be that you need 20 villagers successfully linked to spawn golems now. The mechanics behind 49580 could make that difficult.

I took have found this. I have also found that iron golems don't care what they spawn on in my world. I have watched them spawn in walls in the floor on glass, on slabs and on leaves. And no matter what changes I make to my farm, nothing spawns. I just tried to fix it the other day and still nothing. I added another 20 villagers to see if that would help, but nothing still, if you guys could recommend some quick fixes, it would be really appreciated.

@goldenhelmet unfortunately my realm exceeds the downloadable amount of 426mb, it's currently 530mb in size. Any advice? I do not own a PC to download the world from.

@Jonah Davis: the issue with iron golems spawning on almost anything is tracked at MCPE-56833.

@Samuel Boxall & others: I don't want to get into multiple pictures and questions about your farm details because the bug tracker is not intended or well-suited for troubleshooting and support. As I've stated and put in the panel, there are other places in the Minecraft community where you can get help. (Of course, if you have exact steps to reproduce a bug, that would be different.)

Speaking just for myself and not as Moderator, I will go ahead and say that I'm active in the TechRock and Analyizing Minecraft discords and there are also many other knowledgeable people in those discords who help with iron farms all the time.

Just as a point, I did some additional testing in creative (same seed) and followed the recommended practices for Bedrock 1.16 Iron Golem farms and in fact they did spawn there. I went back into my existing survival world and did some tweaking. Where I expected (and wanted) them to spawn, they weren't spawning. Once I opened my ceiling cap up (was set for 2 high) to 3 high, the golems started to spawn naturally (and frequently!) My villager trading hall has now been re-designed to allow golems in the middle and access to the villagers from outside. Best way to describe it, I expected golems to spawn on level 1 (3 high) villagers on level 2 (2 blocks high) and mobs to spawn on level 3 (4 blocks high, in the dark) all levels 1 block thick. That did not work as intended. Best way I can say to fix it is go back and learn about iron golems... EVERYTHING. So damn picky about the beds and workstations and other variables it isn't even funny.

I don't want to duplicate the issue anymore - I see, many reported similar experiences,

What we do:

We are currently testing in creative mode this issue. We do not create iron farms per se, we are creating artificial villages. Flat surface, open area, more than required beds, and workstations.

What's happening:

Several iron golems do spawn around the village - varies around 5-15. Then after a while, it stops.

How can we restart it?

  • Destroying and replacing ALL beds does work, but replacing some doesn't.

  • Killing and replacing ALL villagers does work, replacing some does not.

So it seems for us, that only completely deleting renewing the village solves the problem.
