Cannot pick up water or lava when in flowing water or lava

If your head is in water, you can't use an empty bucket on a water source unless your eyes are directly in that water source. This makes climbing with a bucket nearly impossible on console unless you turn up the controller sensitivity, and in some cases causes you to drown from your own bucket because you can't pick it up. This also affects lava.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Place a bucket of water/lava. Make sure it is at least 3 blocks high

  2. Attempt to grab it whilst in the flowing water/lava

→ ❌ The bucket doesn't fill up.

Can confirm, if i attempt to pick up a source block underwater, it does not allow me to unless i am either above it or in the source block itself.

Here is a description that can help:

The bug

Attempting to pick up a source block of water whilst in it will not work, it only works if the players is on top or inside the source block.

To reproduce:

  1. Place a bucket of water. Make sure it is at least 3 blocks high

  2. Attempt to grab it whilst in the flowing water

→ ❌ The bucket doesn't fill up.

This affects 1.16.200.52.

Can confirm for 1.18.10

How to reproduce:
1. create a wall of solid blocks about 10 blocks tall
2. stand on the ground and place a water source (or lava) midway up the wall
3. you can pickup the water/lava with a bucket just fine if you are standing on the ground,
4. if you ender the water/lava and look up, you won't be able to collect the water/lava using a bucket at all.
5. you must float all the way to the top of the flowing water/lava, look down, and then collect it

you should be able to collect the water/lava regardless of if you are standing in the flow or not. this makes climbing cliffs using water, or getting out of vertical holes using water very time consuming or impossible

The area where the water source can be caught with a bucket in Minecraft Java is equal to the entire block. In Minecraft Bedrock, that same area is much smaller when you're inside it, Only managing to collect water with a bucket if you approach the surface, which is annoying for mobile players, who must try multiple times
