This happened to Mumbo Jumbo in his recent Hermitcraft Episode, So it's confirmed by him and all the viewers.

Strangely, It happened only to one horse in one world and I can't reproduce it.
Confirmed on beta 1.13.0.1 Android, the vindicators don't attack you unless provoked.
Check if you were in peaceful or not.
I think they won't fix this, as it is an old bug. You just have to update the lava source.

This is a duplicate and is fixed in 1.12
I can confirm this, any effect added on to the star is deleted and replaced with a small ball one with the same colour and this bug still affects 1.11.4

This happened to me 51 times, I just have to push them out of the bamboo, It's pretty annoying especially when you build a village in a bamboo jungle.
Actually, I had the same issue and it is still a bug in 1.11.3
