@geek4hire625 (not sure if that works)
Make sure you don’t have “Full Keyboard Control” active and that your app is updated.
The keyboard and mouse control are working for me on 1.19.10, and I indeed do not need to hold down the left click. If I remember correctly that was the way the mouse used to work before the update.
I’ve been following this issue since I got my iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard in ~May 2020. I thought the reopening in October was a win but since then it’s been another 7-8 months of radio silence.
I have been having this issue ever since I got my iPad Pro & was mostly able to get around it by using the linked Secret Settings Mod. That mod has not been updated in a while, & using it now breaks the pause menu. I can access settings, but cannot return to the game while using the Secret Settings mod. In order to get back into the game I have to Save & Quit, then reload the world.
[media]So now I am stuck between a rock & a hard place. I can have the correct safe area, but can't resume the game while going into settings, or I can have a completely borked safe area. (the top end of my safe area is always slightly or extremely off the top of the screen, no matter what setting it is on 0-100)
I understand that there is a way these bug requests get filed & looked at, but to see this & another issue (MCPE-51263) not have any kind of meaningful update in years is a bit disappointing.
Well, I had a big rant that went something like "blah blah blah... system is the same as last time I played 3 months ago... blah blah... huge input lag in fullscreen but not when windowed..." & then I actually read the thread.
Turning off "Keyboard Manager" in "PowerToys" (a feature I don't use, but was enabled by default when I reinstalled PT a month or so ago) fixed the issues completely.
I'd recommend everyone check to make sure Keyboard Manager isn't enabled, which could potentially fix a lot of people's problems.
Lots of thanks to Anastasios Papargyriou.
It would be good if proper details were provided rather than just saying "It works as intended". Can I get any details on what that means? Every single issue that gets opened regarding this issue gets lumped into a "resolved" issue that was marked "Won't Fix" (which was last updated in late 2017, well before iOS Keyboard/Mouse updates). How is this working as intended but also a problem you won't fix?
Trying to work this out. When I open the Minecraft settings on my iPad Pro, there is an option for "Keyboard & Mouse" with a bunch of settings & keybind options in it, but I cannot get keyboards to work with Minecraft in the way the "Keyboard & Mouse" settings suggest (moving your character & inventory management etc, chat works fine)
My Keyboard Folio does not respond at all while inside Minecraft, with "Full Keyboard Gameplay" on or off.
My Logitech K480 is the same. So is a hardware keyboard plugged in using a USB-C hub.
I'm just trying to understand why there are settings for KB&M when Smart Connector, Bluetooth & USB keyboards do not work. Am I missing something or do the settings built into the game just not work? In which case, why are they there in the first place.
My thoughts are if there are no intentions for hardware keyboards to work, take the options out so people don't get disappointed. Why add settings for a feature, then not make the feature work.
Just wanted to provide an update. My game is still recognising the keyboard and mouse fine. Keep in mind this is my experience and your mileage may vary.
One and two finger taps register as break and place. I don't have to click and hold to look around (this likely indicates you are on an old version without KB/M support)
Typing in search boxes/chat works so long as you wait for the little keyboard icon to appear in the bottom of the screen. This indicates the keyboard has switched to text input mode.
The inventory menu can't be navigated using the keyboard, but I don't know if you can even do that in the desktop version. When opening the inventory, my iPad's pointer becomes visible and I can use it to move items etc. Upon leaving the inventory, the pointer hides itself and mouse movement changes to controlling where the character looks.
For me, the bar at the bottom of the screen is greyed out, as it is in many other games. This means you need to pull up twice before the app will close, preventing accidental game closes.
The only issue is due to Apple not thinking an "Escape" key is necessary on an iPad, there is no way to get to the pause menu using the keyboard. I would like to be able to bind the menu to "Tilde" but "Open Pause Menu" does not exist in the keyboard mapping list.
I am using an iPad Pro running iPadOS 16.1 with a Magic Keyboard, and Minecraft version 1.19.40.
I'll have to connect my iPhone to a Bluetooth keyboard and see if the issues @Iloveminecraft88 mentioned occur my phone as well. (On the iPad they seem to be nonexistent)
