Maybe you should try to do something to update the status of the sticky piston. Sometimes the problem also happens to the TNT duper I designed, and I solved it by placing or destroying the block closest to the piston. 

Problems like this can be reproduced in this way: 

  1. Place a piston next to the redstone block horizontally;

  2. Place another redstone block above the one you placed;

  3. Remove the bottom one at first, then remove the on eat the top.
