Now a bug in 20w17a, and seemingly in every version hence forth. Confidence for this fix is slowly burning away.

Disclaimer: Not every single person who plays Minecraft is an aficionado mod maker who is capable of fixing any bugs at all, including this one. If that were the case, Minecraft would be absolutely perfect for everyone in their own ways, and this site wouldn't exist. But it saddens me how the very vast majority of players depend on higher-up developers for the content/improvements they want, or rather need in this case. And this problem continues in a snapshot, so mods are not possible. And how important this bug is, while it can be viewed as an opinion, having an impact on a player's overall gameplay (such as visibility to bubble columns, potion effects, and overall just looks absolutely awful) makes it something that not everyone could live with, it's just impossible to let lie. Lastly, the quotes directly from Mojang: "We can't fix a bug if nobody reports it!" implies that that's all it takes to fix an issue, but with the received impression that it also takes willingness and compassion on their end, we reporters are encouraged to do far more than report, which sadly there isn't a lot, besides emphasizing our issues, nervousness, and diminishing patience with this bug. I really don't know how to help/support/motivate anyone at this point, other than come back every week to confirm the bug still exists for each new never-ending Minecraft update.

[Helper] DrownedZombie is there a specific reason why zombie pigmen / zombified piglins aren't meant to be imitated by parrots? I looked at that fix and it doesn't say why.

As an attempt to be remotely useful, I have a theory that could be completely wrong because I don't know the Minecraft code. But I imagine that a statement from before this bug started occurring said "If there is transparent/opaque color (stuff like water and stained glass), show the particles in this manner". But as the whole lighting and graphics systems were being revamped, that statement went missing, and it simply needs to be put back in. I'd imagine that, by default without proper coding, nothing shows through any piece of color, no matter how opaque. And that only new blocks and non-particle entities have been set to be shown. I could be very incorrect and might even sound silly for being so straightforward, but I think it's worth looking into.

Updated for 20w16a. And apparently every update from then on out, especially with this current attitude we're getting and a lack of assurance that this will end.

If the issue is

  • Serious, so much so that there are 111+ duplicate issues in a vain attempt to get this fixed

  • Been going on since an update as far back as a 1.15 snapshot

  • Has no assignee this whole time, suggesting that this isn't that big of a deal to them

  • Was non-existent in a previous update, but out of the blue is a problem now

  • Affects the game to the point where it is not 100% playable as intended

  • Far less attended to that a ticket that is more of a suggestion than a bug

  • Unable to be fixed by a common user

Then it is extremely difficult not to comment, in hopes of inspiring somebody to fix this critical issue. I understand that going through every single ticket is challenging, but undeniably, some tickets are "wants" while some are "needs". Seeing a very inconsistent and unwanted trend between the two types, repeatedly commenting for a "need" to be fixed can be annoying to anyone, but as people who have no control of the game, what else can we reporters do? Finally, it's scary how this website is much more focused on comments, duplicate issues, and certain people than what this site is entirely for: bugs and problems with the game.

This comment is more of an explanation why everyone on this ticket (including me) is the way they are, rather than requesting/demanding that the bug be fixed. As stated, we are powerless in this situation. I hope developers understand the difficulties we as users/players have, as we understand the difficulties they have (Minecraft is not easy to make).

Actually, this is still a thing. I was about to make another bug report about the same issue of Striders forever losing their maximum speed after leaving lava and going back in. Good thing I searched "Striders lose" at the last moment instead of just "Striders speed".

What I noticed:

When riding a (natural) Strider for the first time, they go at very fast speeds, more so when right-clicking with a Warped Fungus on a Stick. When I ride it out of the lava, they become cold, start shivering, and slow down significantly, as expected. But when I ride the Strider back into the lava, even though he does stop shivering and move faster when it's back in, it doesn't go remotely as fast as when I first rode it. Even after getting off, it never picks up the same pace as it did before going onto land. And right-clicking with a Warped Fungus on a Stick does nothing at all to affect its speed. I used F3 + I on both a Strider that has been affected by this and another who hasn't been on land yet and still retains its speed. The both have their "Generic Moving Speed" at the same value:

{Base: 0.15000000596046448d, Name: "minecraft:generic.movement_speed"}

even though one is going much faster than the other when being rode on.

I hope this can be fixed.

I encountered this by riding a strider at high speed, then it stepped onto a baby strider, and then it got cold/shivering and continued to walk in the air and very low speed (as if it were on land). Getting off of it didn't help. I tried riding it into a lava fall and after pushing it in and out several times, I got back in the lava and stopped shivering, but then it only went mildly faster (apparently they go much slower the instant they get out of the lava and even when they go back in).

Particles show just fine through plain, non-stained glass, as it has no transparent pixels (< 100% opacity)

However this bug started occurring in 1.15, it really needs to be fixed.

Confirmed for 20w15a.

I'm unsure how or why this would be so hard to fix. I'm sure it's not as simple as "re-add the function into the game" but this has been going on for a while.

Oh, I see nobody's been assigned. This really needs to be sought after and fixed.

Of course, it's not until after I make this report when I see dozens of them already made, and I didn't find them because my search query was slightly different from how these other reports were worded. Guess this qualifies as a duplicate?

Confirmed for all versions of 1.15. And, based on the 20w06a patch notes, confirmed for that as well.

Update on my experience with this issue:

BEDS. Ignoring this seemingly new issue where they automatically slide off, they do pose an un-guaranteed, but very possible temporary solution. As I once commented back in Sept, my once-zombie librarian villager kept disappearing, in spite of how shortly of time I spend not trading, and how he's stuck in a 2x2x2 cave with a lectern, torch, and empty half slab for a window. Haven't touched that world or reloaded it in a backup for a long time. However, while playing in my realm, which is 100% creative mode, I noticed that villagers who sleep during the night have a more difficult time vanishing than ones who don't. Whilst I have game rule doDaylightCycle set to false, while a few shepherds with a 1x2x1 latch didn't disappear even without a bed, two villagers in a more wide open area did. When I re-enabled the day cycle, and respawned more villagers on a floating platform, nobody disappeared, and the reason I'm forced to believe are them getting a healthy amount of sleep. This could be very incorrect, but it does mean a much lower chance of vanishing for them. As I'm seeing people have this new "sliding off" issue, I can absolutely see how that would help support how villagers are still vanishing for some people. My only suggestion would be to have the bed surrounded by slabs, and it would be harder for them to fall off... unless there's a bug that makes them move with nothing touching them. Either way, I pray there will be an official fix to this soon, and I hope this updated feedback helps.

Confirmed for 19w42a.

Also, this may be off topic, but I'm not sure where to ask this: is there anywhere I can report an issue with the bug tracker? I spent half an hour yesterday, searching for this issue but couldn't find anything related, so I figured I could write an issue and it wouldn't be considered a "duplicate". And then I got an email saying I did make a duplicate. Anyway, can I report something like this anywhere? Again, sorry this is off topic but I don't know of any other place to ask.

This has happened to me twice, it's a relief I backed up the world before it happened. I'm on a survival world on a remote island with no nearby villages. After many days I get a zombie villager to naturally spawn on the island, and I managed to cure him into a normal villager. I roughly get him into a small space with a single block window for me to talk to him. I placed a torch in the little cage to keep him safe and a lectern beside him so he'd trade as a librarian, and I landed some of the greatest deals and discounts from him. I've been trading with him for a long MC time, and I always make backups when I exit. About a month ago, after trading with him a bit more and also having a wandering trader + a few llamas arrive on the island, I went on to doing a few more stuff, including getting the Sniper Duel goal. Shortly after I do that (usually at night) I go back to my little cage, having noticed that the librarian is gone. I tried logging back in to see if it's just him becoming invisible, but he wouldn't come back. Also, the wandering trader and his llamas were gone too, but that's besides the point.

Today, I loaded the backup world, with everything as it was prior to the villagers' disappearances. Assuming a baby zombie was able to get into the cage and kill the librarian, I took an oak slab and placed it in front of the window, so only things less than half a single block could get through. So I did the same thing as I did last month: trade with the villagers, go mining, etc. and re-taking the Sniper Duel goal. Around that time, the villager and trader and llamas disappeared again. I then thought that either the sniping duel goal was making it happen, or me just leaving far from the area, or somehow a zombie was still getting to him. So I loaded the world in creative to see that none of those were the case.

About the confirmations: I was playing for only 40 minutes when it happened to me today, as seen by the log. I logged off quickly for 10 seconds, but the villager was still there after that time. So time MIGHT be the cause, but if so, it takes far less than a few hours. And when the villager disappeared, so did his Point of Interest. In creative mode, I spawned another villager by the same lectern, and he took the job, still with zombies and baby zombies unable to even hit him.

Attached are the log file for my play through in which the disappearances happened today, as well as a screenshot of the cave I took with the oak slab above, to prove that zombies or baby zombies couldn't have gotten in. This all happened in 1.14.4, but it seems like this has been going on for a while alongside many other bugs.
