I dosen't make since that night vision prevents sprinting.

There is a bug in 1.8 that caused slimes to be really rare in slime chunks.

I will test with tamed ones later.

I only saw this with untamed wolves.

No,the wolves take damage from the snowballs the snowman throws. So there is a bug.

The issue says it was fixed in one if the 1.7.2 snapshots put I got it in 1.7.9.

you don't have to download the minecraft.jar for MC 1.2.5 you can use the launcher.

Upgrade to Windows 8 you said you have Windows XP.

Check to see if it happens in 1.8.

Make sure DoMobSpawning is set to true.
