I think it has something to do with AMD cards as i have one and Elliot has one. :/ All my other friends have nvidia cards and they are fine.

@unknown: Sometimes older tickets gets resolved to younger tickets if it's easier to forward resolve one ticket compared to reopening, relinking and re-resolving a lot of other tickets.

Versions 14w30b & 14w30c appear to have fixed the issue, at least for me.

According to MC-63440 it's still in 14w30b.

It wasn't there on the first day but it came back this morning. It is still in this version.

Since reporting this I have updated to Java 1.7.0_65 from 1.7.0_51, which seems to have fixed the issue across all versions.

Some more interesting info on this bug. I am seeing it running a GeForce GTX 550 Ti on 14w30c. I updated both the GeForce drivers and Java to the latest and I was still seeing it. I toggled all of the video settings in Minecraft and still saw it. But, when I click on "Super Secret Settings..." in options twice to toggle the mode on then off, it clears up and is gone for the rest of the Minecraft session. Might give you guys some insight into what is going on.
Edit: I was incorrect about toggling the "Secret Settings." The black area goes away when I have selected the FXAA shader. Or any shader really.

I've been able to confirm it with a Intel HD Graphics 4.0.0 in 14w30c. When using shaders though, the black area disappears, but when using the "bumpy" shader, you can see lines around the previously black area, but this has always been the case.

confirmed in 14w31a

Same black bar as others have mentioned. Forced crash log included.

confirmed in 14w34b
NVidia Pilote 340.52

Confirmed aswell NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660. The horizon is flickering like crazy for me.

Confirmed in 14w34d with an AMD Radeon R9 280x - Driver Version 14.100.0.0

Confirmed in 1.8-Pre1

As a person with mild epilepsy, I noticed that the flickering causes me severe headaches very quickly as it simulates a strobe effect.
Have never had a problem with this in Minecraft in the past and would really like to see it addresses and fixed.

Still the same with 1.8-pre1, but I've just noticed something very weird : the black horizon disappear when you use the "super secret settings filters". There is one of those secret filter that almost don't distort the view, and let you enjoy the last snapshots x)

I am also getting this bug, in 1.8-pre2, confirmed using a "Super Secret Setting" removes it but when i turn them off it comes back. Nvidia 660 TI

We Have The Same Problem

Confirmed in 1.8-Pre3

Anyone Know How To Fix The Problem

I'm starting to think mojang don't care as this is only affecting certain users. This hasn't been fixed in 9 versions and it's looking unlikely they will fix unless it's accidental.

@@unknown: Don't make assumptions.

@Husin You can kinda get around it by using the second shader in the "Super Secret Settings" (the FXAA shader). I clears up the black area and looks like fairly normal Minecraft.

Running 1.8 with Catalyst 14.7 the issue seems to be fixed.

Duplicated with the following:
Nvidia Geforce 340.52
Java 1.7.0_67
Intel core i5-3570 3.4 GHz
8GB ram
64 bit windows 8.1 Pro

And the guilty was : Overwolf ! For all of you who are using Overwolf and having the black horizon issue, try to shutdown Overwolf, and you'll see 😉

WTF is Overwolf ?

Overwolf is a ts3 add on/plugin

I can confirm closing Overwolf has fixed the issues for me.

mine is working now mine was the same overwolf had a issues with the new update

Oh Ok Bye Bye OverWolf 😃

I'm not running Overwolf, so it's not Overwolf causing the problem for me.

hmm try closing something while in minecraft cause i tested that using overwolf

Can anyone confirm that this issue is fixed now that the AMD Catalyst drivers have been updated to 14.12?

Is this still an issue in the most recent versions (i.e. 1.10.2, or 16w42a) of Minecraft?

@Micheal Wobst
In the most recent snapshots this problem has been reintroduced.
Because the build limit has been extended down, while you are in a flat world, you are below y level 0, which means you get a black horizon if you fly up a few dozen blocks up from y level -64. (as shown in the screenshot)
I am not sure whether to open a new report, that has not been marked as 'Resolved' yet, because this report is also very old, and probably has a different cause.

I'm noticing a black sky below what seems to be sea level in 1.16.5... I thought changing the ocean height would fix it but nope.

Confirmed in 1.21.3, horizon still turns black below Y 62. This can be easier seen in a superflat world.Â
