Having same issue on Ubuntu. After removing via gdebi, deleting .minecraft folder, and downloading and installing the minecraft.deb file again, I get the same error when the launcher is started. Attaching launcher_log and launcher_cef_log files.

This is not resolved for me. In 1.14.2/vanilla on Ubuntu Linux, I have a 3x3x40h tower with the center column empty. The top of the column has above it, in order from bottom to top: 1 layer of Stone, 2 layers of Water, 1 layer of leaves. Despite that, it was showing Sky Light as 15 in the entire column. While trying to fix it, I tried sticking a block of Dirt underneath the Stone layer. That half-fixed it–it now shows 14 Sky Light at the top of the column, which recedes by one for every block you go down the column, hitting zero after descending 14 blocks–but that still doesn't seem right. Note also that it's still half-fixed even though I've since removed the block of Dirt.
Also, an abnormal number of spawns. In the nether, ghasts spawn so quickly that you have half a dozen in the same place in the space of a minute or so.
Thanks for the warning! I have not seen it happen yet. I have survived a few gravel cascades.
Minecraft is also a product, with an implied promise of future performance, that people have already paid for. This vendor has no respect for that contract. Fine, have your April Fools' laugh, but not to offer your paid-up customers any opt-out from this obnoxious whim of a prank is unethical. I bought the beta a long time ago, and I've always enjoyed the game and enjoyed recommending the game to others, but this "joke" is just asinine and Mojang's lack of respect for their paying subscriber base shows a real lack of gratitude and humility.
If I mute my game sounds, I can't hear mobs. If I use 1.7.4, the sounds continue.
Reverting to 1.7.4 does not fix it for me.
I have a sense of humor, but this is only funny for less than a minute. I tried running 1.7.4 and it still makes the sounds. I think you should reconsider this prank.
My bad, I didn't see there was a new snapshot.
HOWEVER. It's not exactly fixed. Now, when you repair something and remove the repaired item, the old items remain on the grid, and drop if you close inventory. Looks like you go on infinitely manifesting repaired items...
I'm new here, so sorry if this is a dumb question. Does 'resolved' mean 'fixed in next patch,' or does it mean 'working as intended and won't fix'?
I updated my libstdc++ library (on Ubuntu 16.04) using the instructions provided by Brian Carlson (first comment here: MCL-18211 ), reinstalled MC again with a freshly downloaded copy, and it's working for me now.
