Adam is correct. It did not update because of a client site bug.
A redstone block or other redstone device doesn't update the state of the hopper unless it is interacted by the player or has a block update (another block is placed on top). See graphics.
#1 - Just placed down hopper (enabled:true)
#2 - Redstone block added by (enabled:true)
#3 - Block update on top of hopper (enabled:false)
#4 - Removed redstone block and update block (enabled:false, should be enabled:true) - needs block updated to get enabled:true
confirmed for 14w31a.
Here is a couple of the same crashes when I did the crafting. (see attached crashes)
It looks like it might have something to do with either a chest or chest minecart. But the crash would always occur only after I did the rabbit stew recipe, not if I did nothing.
I already deleted the world so I can't test under 14w27b.

Did you try updating your JVM arguments for your profile in the Minecraft Launcher?
Use -Xmx2G for 2GB of RAM free, -Xmx4G for 4GB, etc.

This doesn't occur for me for either wooden or iron doors in the latest snapshot (1.6.2). It isn't a directional quirk (north-south, etc.).
Did you try changing your profile settings in the minecraft launcher?
If you have lots of RAM space, for instance say you have 4GB of ram. You may already be using 1GB with everything besides minecraft running so you could be using 2GB instead of 1GB.
If you have already changed your profile settings in the launcher, then please disregard this comment.
If you don't know how to change your memory settings in the launcher see the image below.

Confirmed. When the player hits themselves with an arrow, the player can no longer tell a standing tamed wolf to sit. All sitting wolves will stand if the player is hit by their own arrow. Also if the player hits themselves with an arrow, any future tamed wolves will not sit either unless the player closes and reopens the world.
The player can tell the wolves to breed so it appears to be only linked with the action of the player attacking themselves.
