It's simular, but it will also affect 1 word texts too.
having the same problem. i would need this for a menu for admins on my realm.
Having the same exact problem with my cousion on PS4. We have a realm and if something happens to the realm servers and the realm gets corrupted, we will have no physical backup to the world! Over 3000 hours have been put into this realm!
I think i found the problem. when players write in signs, the sign updates when ever any text is entered. while on my freind's realm, while reading to screenshot my signs to save them in case the signs messed up, i noticed the signs themselves going though the exact process agean, as if the client and server are lagging horribly. durring this process, i notice the sign ignores ALL LINE BREAKS AND ANYTIME YOU SWITCH TO A NEW LINE as if the server was reading the sign as a continuos line of text, and not a multi line text. This is what must be casuing the issue.
Steps to replicate:
1. open any realm.
2, place a sign and write the following: "Dear Dirary," enter "after walking" enter "for 2471" enter "days, nothing".
3, Wait until the sign updates (around 5-10 minutes).
4, Observe the sign reinputing your keystokes.
Expected Results:
Dear Dirary,
after walking
for 2471
days, nothing
Actual Result:
Dear Dirary,
After walking
for 2571 days,
nothing
Proposal soution: make the server code check for sign spaces by detecting "Enter" or controller equivlent move that text to the next line and modify any text below it
this seems fixed as of 1.18. needs more testing...
I've done some testing and I think I have an hypothesis. When ever I am on the realm by myself, I find that I can edit books mostly fine. However, it appears random that it seams to work or not... until I looked at my hotbar ever time I hit ESC. That's when I noticed that the book flashes twice as if you re-equiped the book. When ever that happens, the text saves just fine. However, I type a large amount of text or if the censor cannot determine if that word is censorable, the book only does the re-equip once and exiting the book will erase all edits made to the book. My last observation is that the books only re-equip once, regardless of what is typed.
With that in mind, I think the reams servers break down in one of three spots.
1: the censor could be malfunction causing a bunch of text related problems
2: something on the server side doesn't like with all text causing text to act wonky.
3: both systems are causing the problems and theirs some coding spaghetti to sort.
Possible future testing methods:
1: allow users to enable the censorship client side to test if the issue occures on single player worlds. If it does, then the censorship system is the problem and needs patching.
2: allow realms to temporarily disable the censorship to see if the problem is server side. If the problem continues on non censored servers, then we know the problem is server side and the realms servers need either software/hardware update.
3: if either don't have the problem manifest with these suggested changes, then it's highly possible that something else can be in play.
These experiments would need to be done as an update to the game. I would also use the sugest putting the censorship system client side and advertise it as a way to paarents to control content even on single player worlds or non official servers.
Its an anoying bug for sure! it also seems inconsitant, as as soon as i could try to screenshot the bug, only for the anvil to return to normal after the work around and/or when ever it feels like it!
i was trying to use the book to list names, but i cant until this is fixed. oh well, its not like i can use renammed paper (Cough Cough, REALMS-9223, cough cough)
Our realm has add-ons and achievements.
